I Happened Across This Set Of Danish Salad Servers Just Days After Being Wowed By A Set Over On Secondhand Hanna's Blog. Status: Rescued

Rescued is right. See how dry the wood looks in that pic above? This poor set had been through the dish washer a couple too many times. Dr. Modtomic prescribes love...and much need cleanup.

Just what the Dr. ordered! The Goof Off was needed to get the marker / price (and just about

anything and everything else) off the metal. The Murphy Oil Soap is mixed with water and used

to clean the handles up. I let them dry thoroughly and then hit them with the Howard Feed N

Wax. Boy did they need it too!

Above you can see how dry the wood is. Also you can see the price put on with a Sharpy.

Thank God they didn't put the price on the wood! I might have had to stain the handle an

ebony to cover it! Truth is...I probably wouldn't have even bought them if that was the case.

You can't save everything! Right?

So here's the little "before and after" in action. Those were some thirsty handles. After I

cleaned them and let them dry I "slathered" them with the Feed N Wax. I let them sit like

that...almost dripping with the stuff for a little while. When I came back to wipe them down they

were no longer "slathered" but now just sporting a thin film of moisture. They really soaked it

up. I may give them another "slathering" just be sure that they've gotten all they need.

There, all better. Another successful operation. Only slight regret? Maybe I shoulda stained

them a little darker? Eh, they look pretty good as is. I'm happy!

  2. They look great!

Have you tried Howard's companion to the Feed N Wax? It's called Restor-A-Finish. Even on things that don't need a severe restoration, it does an incredible job cleaning up especially with the 0000 steel wool.

  3. I think I'm gonna buy a ganked up dining table that needs fixin' and do a comparo on a couple different products one of these days. I'll do a swipe of each side by side so that we can see what each does. Right now I'm using the Minwax Antique Furniture Refinisher on the messed up stuff. I think it's basically the same thing. But it'd be interesting to see if there is a marked difference.

  4. Ooh, I need to give some of my wood handled flatware this treatment. Where does one get the Feed N Wax?

  5. monoG - I'm a little ashamed to admit that I got this bottle at one of the big box hardware stores. I TRIED to buy my stuff at True Value that day but they didn't / don't stock the Minwax Antique Furniture Refinisher and that was what I was after the day I found the Feed N Wax.
