Last Weekend, While Out Takin Care Of All Sorts Of Running Around, We Managed To Scavenge A Couple Of Thrifts. All I Managed To Find Was A Nice Selection Of Paul McCobb Dinner Ware, But It Certainly Brightened Up My Day! Status: Collected.

DSC_0456

I'm not usually smitten with shiny, slick porcelain dinner ware like this but really, who can resist them some Contempri / Jackson China by Paul McCobb? "Not I" said the fly! This isn't your standard frilly antique porcelain dinner ware, no Sir. These designs are of the conservative restraint and functionality we have come to expect of all Paul McCobb's designs.

Did A Little Craigslist Shopping Last Night And Brought Home Lots Of Dining Options. This Paul McCobb - Irwin Collection By Calvin Dining Set Had Sat On C-list For Nearly A Week Before I Noticed It! Luckily, I Was The Buyer Who Was The First To Suss It Out. Status: Gone.

20140918_115138

I recall taking a passing look at this dining set on craigslist Wednesday evening and not thinking much about it but then it passed my eyes again a little later and I noticed the brass bracing under the chairs and table.  I'd seen that before.  Paul McCobb.  Five minutes of research later and I was firing off an email!

Phew....I Almost Passed On This Set Of Chairs. Spotted Them Monday, But Had Been To The Gypsy Caravan And Was Kinda Done For The Day. Today, Jeff Pointed Them Out And ID'd Them (edit - Paul McCobb). Status: Snatched.

20140528_175422

Jeff Swift (our former upholstery writer...everybody got "fired" 'cuz nobody was posting) shot me a text this morning asking if I had picked these chairs up over the weekend.  Apparently he has some that need some bits and pieces.  I had seen them but I didn't jump right on them.  I did give them a second glance...and they did stick in my brain....

So If You Checked Out Yesterday's Post You Know The Mr. And The Girlfriend Hit The Wentzville Flea Sunday. It Was Sparse So We Hit Another Flea We Haven't Hit In Quite A While: The Union Flea. Status: The Booty!

20140511_182101

The combination of questionable weather and Mother's Day may have been the cause of so many empty vendor spaces at Wentzville this weekend but I still made out like a bandit...and then, since we were done so early, we decided to venture about another 30+ miles south west to the Union Flea.  More scores were to be had.

What St. Louis Lacks In Vintage Modern Shop Grapevine Info It Surely Makes Up For In Seriously Fine Stock And Choice. So MoModerne Moves It's Headquarters Out To The County...And No One Bothers To Tell A Mr.! Status: New Address - Same Great Taste.

20130831_161709

I guess I've nobody to blame but myself.  I have to say, I haven't been out to ANY of the vintage modern shop around town lately...and so why would any of these merchants bother to let me in on news as big as the moving of their store front...much less the opening of their Second Storefront!

The Only Thing Mr. Modtomic Brought Home From The Randolph Street Market Was A Camera For A Friend...Although The Girlfriend Cleaned Up On Salt And Pepper Shakers / Vintage Costume Jewelry. All I Got Was A Bunch Of Photos! Status: A BUNCH Of Photos!

20130824_113829

This Mamiya medium (edit - thanks Bopfish!) format camera has been on a friends wish list for a Long Time.  I've been looking for one for her for a Long Time.  Finally, I found one at the Randolph Street Market during our recent visit. I'm just hoping that the thorough once over we gave it means it'll be a working unit...otherwise it's just a cool display piece!  Look inside for about 50 more pics from the RSM flea!

Greetings from Baltimore, Maryland - Large Letter Postcard

We're back up in the North East this time. It took me a couple hours to put this all together and some of the ads might be a little bit older, but there is definitely some good and undervalued stuff up here in Baltimore. Let me know in the comments if you happen to snag any of these treasures!

Wow, It's Turning Out To Be An Eames / Herman Miller Haul Weekend Here In Canton TX.! I'm Snatching Up Other Various Smalls As Well, But It's All Eames That's Filling Frank Up. Status: Still Got A Little Room!

DSCN2880

I spotted this table still loaded up on a trailer last evening just as we were leaving.  I was hoping to get to the sale early enough this morning that I'd be able to grab it up before anybody else noticed it.  Well...things didn't work out quite like that, but they DID work out!

Got Down To The South Side Thrifts Today. No Major Haul But I Found A Few Goodies. Some Days Are Better Than Others. Status: Smalls Haul.

DSCN2332

Even though I didn't find a car load of items this afternoon, it's nice to find at least one Really Good piece that totally made my day.  Can you guess which one of the above five it might be?

Ah, The Necessities Of The Wino! Mr. Modtomic Isn't Much Of A Wine Connoisseur But I Do Like A Splash Of The Vino Now And Then. Now I Can Keep My Little Stash In Style! Status: More McCo/manoff.

DSCN2671

Years ago, while at an antique mall in rural Missouri near Six Flags, I spotted a small wine rack made of steel round bar and leather.  It was only about $12 and while I failed to buy it, the wine rack stuck in my brain.  Maybe a week or two later I spotted a similar piece on eBay which described it as a Paul McCobb design.  Of course I drove right back down to that antique mall as soon as I could, but alas...the rack was gone.  Lesson learned.  Desire cemented.

Looking For Some Cheap Style? Who Ain't? This One's For You Allie, CinciNasty Oh Hi! Status: Not My Turf!

Greetings from Cincinnati, Ohio - Large Letter Postcard

Another river city like St. Louis Mo, Cincinnati Oh. was screwed by Chicago and the railroad barons of the time and had it's growth stunted.  Still, like the StL, it continues to thrive and well...has a great craigslist vein just waiting to be mined!  Click through and let's dig in!

This Is It. The Final Chapter In The Epic BAM Chicago Trilogy. You've Seen The Smalls. You've Seen The Seating. Here's The Rest! Status: Back To Our Regular Programing Tomorrow.

DSCN1997

Even the outside of this place is really cool!  Check out that art deco marquee!  You've got your glass block window behind it and all that yellow glazed tile.  I wonder what this building was originally built for?  The stairs to the second floor are right inside the door, are beautiful and are meant to be seen - so I'm sure the upstairs was supposed to be frequented by customers, such as it is now.

No New Goodies Today. Nope...Just Gratuitous Cute Kitty Shots. Status: New Stuff Tomorrow, Promise!

xDSCN1269

The thrifts...they ain't been good to a Mr. I've had Four straight days of strike outs. I Mean NOTHING! Man that stings. But, I've managed to corral a few good things off craigslist today and I'm fixing up a neat chair so I'll get you the 411 on those tomorrow. Until then, cute pics of King Larry / McDuff.

A Mid-Summer's Evening Craigslist Score. August Welcomed Mr. Modtomic With Another Piece Of Paul McCobb For My Growing Collection. Status: Col (wait for it) lected.

DSCN1279

Today was a good day.  What a way to end a pretty brutal July.  Frank got a brand new windshield and Mr. Modtomic got a Paul McCobb secretary desk!  The windshield is flawless but the secretary...well, come on inside and I'll show ya.

One Of The Great Aspects Of The Green Shag Market Is The Myriad Of Styles You'll Find In The Offerings. Retro, Antique, Vintage, Classic Modern, Vintage Contemporary...It's All There. Status: Eclectic!

DSCN1257

Mr. Modtomic isn't the only purveyor of delicious vintage modern amazing-ness. Just take a look at booth 28. They opened maybe a couple weeks after me. They keep the booth sparsely availed of items, but they are pretty great items!

Stopped By A Salvation Army Thrift Store Out In New York. Picked Up A Pair Of McCobb / Jackson China Bowls - Got A Whole Bunch Of Mystery Jackson China For Free! Status: Related?

DSCN1141

I grabbed up this pair of Jackson China bowls designed by Paul McCobb at one of the few thrift stores we could find in Glen Falls NY (near where we vacationed in Lake George NY). I initially just grabbed the pair of bowls and was going to GLADLY pay the marked price for them alone. The nice lady at the check out MADE me go back to the dishes with her and suss out the rest of the lot. Thanks Nice Lady!

Happy Independance Day! Mr. Modtomic Is Ready To blast Off In This Rocket's Red Glare! This Vintage Coin Op / Photo Op Is At Rocket Century. Status: Rocket Century Gots The Goods.

DSCN0170

While at Rocket Century's "Swank-A-Rama" parking lot sale Mr. Modtomic took a little stroll through host's indoor sales area. You might remember seeing a few photos of this from their earlier sale here. This time Rocket Century had a little more time to properly stage their selling area and it looked great. They have some really nice stuff available!

The Green Shag Parking Lot Sale Was (IMHO) A Success...AND I Was Good, Mostly! But The Dishes, They Was A Callin' My Name. Status: "Against Which, No Can Defend" - Mr. Miyagi

DSCN7637

This was it.  This was ALL I purchased at the (what I'm hoping will be just the first) Green Shag Parking Lot Sale.  Success (ish)!  C'mon, I was there to SELL, not Buy!  But Rocket Century...those bastards...they had my number....and that number was M - C - C - O - B - B and T - E - M - P - O - R - A - M - A.  What?  Oh, yeah...not numbers.  Sorry 'bout that.
