After Another Minor Dry Spell, Mr. Modtomic Spent The Weekend On The Road Picking Up Items Off Out Of Town Craigslist Postings. This Jens Risom Desk Was Found In Bloomington Il. But It Was Worth The Long Drive. Status: Available!

Hey Looky!  This is the second Jens Risom desk I've come across lately.  This one is a little bit bigger than the previous piece.  It's more of an executive desk, but it isn't so huge that it becomes ungainly, like the double pedestal executive desk.  Not too small, not too big...just about right!

See That Label? Means A Lot To Us, Right? Not So Much To Someone In New Orleans With A Couple Cans Of Paint And A Bright Idea. But Again, There Ain't Nothin' That Can't Be Saved, Right? Begs The Question: Should It Be "Saved"? Status: (Update) Already Gone.

Funny little story about this little Knoll stool: I spotted it many years ago in New Orleans at another shop at the far west end of Magazine Street.  I had hoped at the time that the seller would let it go for cheap since they obviously didn't have a clue of what it was.

I'm In The Middle Of Refinishing The Tops But The Summer Heat And Hummidity Have Put The Kabash On The Project Until Cooler Weather Returns. The Couple Hours Spent So Far Drenched Mr. M In Sweat...So We'll Wait For Lower Temps Before Continuing! Status: Almost There! Status:

I bought this sad little pair of Lane end tables at the Mid Century combined estate auction early this spring for a song.  Kinda got what I paid for though.  I figured they were priced about right to mess with learning proper sanding, staining and finishing work on.  Huh, turns out I was right!

Another Before And After! This Time It's A Clean-up Tip. Ever Had Bar Keepers Friend Recommended To Clean Knife Marks Off Your China? Guess What, It Works! Status: Skepticism Fail.

DSCN0793

Years ago I found a pair of yellow Fiesta dinner plates at the thrift store with utensil marks all over them.  Some kind soul recommended that I try Bar Keepers Friend to clean them up and I passed, choosing instead to use 0000 steel wool, baking soda and a lot of elbow grease to achieve the same result.  Today, I eat crow.

I Was Simply Gonna Tweet About This Cool Looking Vintage Modern Bassett Set At The Ferguson Goodwill Today...But I Took Too Many Photos. Status: Tweet Fail.

20140608_140521

Then I was gonna try to come up with some clever title for this post involving a play on the words: Basset Case (goods) and "Basket Case" but that didn't really seem fair...and I was too lazy to work out the details.

I Been Tryin' Real Hard To Get A Load Of Smalls Out To Creve Coeur So I Gathered Up A Couple Boxes Full And Dropped Those AND The Grete Jalk Sofa In Booth 307. Took A Quick Look 'Round And Spotted Some Good Stuff In Some Other Booths Too. Status: Available.

20140515_130144

I literally looked around for 30 seconds and stumbled across Three really cool items at The Antique Mall of Creve Coeur.  I was in a rush to get to work so I didn't have time to scour the entire mall, so there may be even more / better finds out there.  Thing is, if you like what you see...you better hurry!

Well, I Finally Went And Did It. I Plonked Down The Cash (And No Small Amount Either) For A Curtis Jere Birds. What The Heck Is Wrong With Me These Days? This Is The Second Time I Dropped More Scratch Than I Normally Would For A Curtis Jere Piece Of Art! Status: Project.

20140320_125708

When I dropped by the Green Shag Market last Sunday I took a little stroll around the mall with Karen (the owner) and just before leaving she asked if she could show me this piece she had just picked up.  Oh crap.  Of course, and just after getting a fat check.

Ok Ok! Yes, I Did Happen To Pick Up A Second PIece Of Broyhill Brasilia At The Auction Last Weekend. I've Always Wanted A Brasilia Server Like This, Even Though I Have Absolutely No Place...Or Really Use For One. Well, I've Got A Litle Time To Decide If It's A Keeper, Off It Goes To Dan To Get Freshened Up...Then We'll Decide. Status: Wanting For Some Love.

20140221_122627

Yes indeed, Mr. M does indeed have a certain weakness for Broyhill Brasilia.  I've had an opportunity to pick up one of these drop leaf servers here and there, but it just didn't ever work out.  When the bidding at the auction stopped and the auctioneer was still pointing at me...well, I guess my time had finally come!

These Cherner Ant Chairs Are The Very Definition Of "Farm Fresh"! I Haven't Even Swept Away The Cobwebs Yet. Yup, Another Late Night Craigslist Find. Status: Awaiting Cleanup.

DSCN0568

Mr. M just plain ol' got lucky this evening!  I almost always go for a walk on my dinner break from work and even though it was about -3 degrees out, I still did so this evening.  Much to my chagrin, almost all of the places I dine at were closed so I ended up at Schnucks Market downtown, half frozen.  Uh, that's obviously not the lucky part.

Ain't This Vintage Thonet Bentwood Stool Just The Kind Of Thing You Hope To Find At The Flea Market? Well Count Mr. Modtomic Lucky 'Cuz That's Exactly What Happened! Status: Needs Scrubbing.

DSCN9952

I hit the Belleville flea super early Saturday morning and found that getting there THAT early was kinda pointless. It did give me the opportunity to make two runs through everything though. I spotted this Thonet stool on that first run but having a limited budget meant that it was put on the maybe list.

Love You Some Broyhill Brasilia But Having a Hard Time Finding Yourself A China Cabinet? Mr. Modtomic Has Got You Covered. Drop By Fleur De Lis - Home Source And Check Out This Big Guy. Status: Available.

DSCN9796

Strike while the Iron is hot...that's my motto.  Just before ouf vacation I had the opportunity to pick up this lovely Broyhill Brasilia china cabinet, and even though I really didn't have the room for it and it's purchase would dip into our vacation money, I had to have it.

Something New. I Don't Normally Pimp Other's Material 'Round Here But Just In Case Ya Didn't Know...You Can Watch Full Episodes Of Flea Market Flip On Your PC...Or Laptop....Or Smartphone Or Whatever. Click Through For The Link! Status: More Ways To Waste Your Otherwise Precious Time.

Flea Market Flip

While on vacation we get to watch a fair amount of cable TV.  If you're like me and live with Broadcast TV and maybe supplement that with Netflix (we use a Roku box that pumps it right into our TV) then a couple weeks of cable is both welcome and...really, about all you need.  But it got me wondering if some of those shows were available online.

A (Mystery) Danish Slipper Chair, Brass Top "Spider" Table And A Cool Candelabra. Not A Bad Haul For A Late Flea Market Arrival! Status: Sweet Flea Finds.

DSCN3283

Yeah, that upholstery is pretty hideous but the chair is solid and has great lines.  You've already seen the Spider Leg Table, and the candelabra...that's pretty darn cool too.  All this was found and hauled back to Frank within an hour from the various vendors.  Not too shabby, eh?

Is This A Knoll Table? There's No Label But There's One Tell Tale Sign. I Just Can't Find Another Like It Anywhere. Can My Amazing Readership Help? Status: Mysterious.

DSCN3321

I found this big heavy steel and walnut pedestal dining table over the weekend languishing at the South County Value Village.  No price so at first I thought it was already sold.  Then I noticed that NONE of the furniture had prices!  So, although I hate having to, I asked.  Then I purchased.

Brasilia Before And After. You Might Remember This Broyhill Brasilia Drop Leaf Harvest Table From Last October. It's Has Finally Emerged From It's Cocoon And Boy Is It Pretty! Status: Available.

DSCN3298

After a long winter the Brasilia harvest table is back out in the open.  It's been a long wait but it was totally worth it.  It needed lots of love and luckily I know just the man for the job.  He loves the work and loves Brasilia so it was only natural that he takes care of all my Broyhill "troubles".

This Overman "Pod" Chair Sat Forlorn And Lonely On Craigslist For One Too Many Days. I Just Couldn't Take It Anymore. Another Orange Overman? Yup. Status: Cleanup In Progress.

DSCN3117

I hope to be able to make this available soon, but I'm going to work on cleaning the upholstery first.  It's not bad but could be better.  Since this is a relatively simple shape, I'm thinking that I might just strip it down and toss it in the washer!  Anybody ever tried such a radical move?

Today We Say Goodbye To What Has Become An Old Friend Here At Mr. Modtomic. You've Seen It In Hundreds Of Photos But It's Time For A Change. Status: Before And After...Bye Bye Brasilia.

DSCN3179

A buddy of mine and the guy who handles my Brasilia refinishing (Dan) has been bugging me all week wanting to get the Broyhill Brasilia side table that I have in our foyer.  Turns out he recently picked up a two piece sectional sofa and has discovered that MY table would fit perfectly between the two pieces!  After seeing the pics he sent me I had to agree.

I'm Finally Making A Little Headway On The Selig / Larsen Chair Re-upholstery Job. I Know It's Not perfect But It's Still In Test Fit Phase. Status: Coming Right Along!

DSCN3073

I decided to knock out an hour or so of upholstery work on the Selig / Kofod Larsen pencil leg chair (Sorry! It's actually a Dan Johnson Viscount Chair!) this evening when I got home from work. I figure I've got maybe another hour or two of work on it to be satisfied. It's getting there!
