We've had this pair of Campaign / Sling chairs for ages. They were probably purchases the first year the Girlfriend and I discovered estate sales. We found them at a condo sale and the Girlfriend just had to have 'em!
This afternoon the Girlfriend and I headed back down to the South Side to pick up a big piece for the house. Since we were in the area anyway, and partly because I hadn't been in since they opened under the new moniker...I decided to take a moment to check out Junk Junkie. Wanna take a look inside?
Rocket Century isn't that new 'round here anymore. They've been around for years and have had the shop open on Grand for quite a while now, but the shop's mode of operation has changed recently and it makes for varied mix of styles and items. If you've not been in the last month, a visit is in order!
It's amazing what a little steel wool and cleaning solution can accomplish! The seats and upholstery on this pair of Burke side chairs are in great shape but the bases have seen better days. They've suffered at the feet of who knows how many people for who knows how many years. Time to clean 'em up!
It was the little side table that got me. There was an ad on craigslist in Columbia for a blue recliner, nothin' special...but sitting next to it was one of these two matching Burke Tulip side tables. After calling the seller I found out there was a pair. I put them on my list.
Dang, I almost wish OUR living room looked this good. Cohesive...maybe that's the word. That walnut Drexel Declaration coffee table, a comfy leather Westnofa lounge chair and now, the classic Chesterfield sofa. Get that Burke dining set out of there and that could be any of our living rooms I'd say.
See! Necessity IS the mother of invention! No more room on the floor of your booth? Go up! I'm way behind the curve on this though. So many of the other vendors have already done this...and done it well. Well, I'm playing catch up now.
These are quite cool, don't ya think! I've already dropped them off at Booth 5 - The Green Shag Market. Lots of stuff got shifted this weekend, so I had to stop by and fill the void. Along with this Fab. pair of lamps the booth got filled with the Burke tulip style dining set featured a few days ago.
Roadtrips must be in my blood. I've been to California three time and only flew there (against my better judgement) once. Every Spring and Summer the Girlfriend and I strike out toward parts unknown in the car, looking for adventure. Even the drive to Chicago from St. Louis, what would seem pretty boring, is actually quite nice...what with all the pretty windmills and usually a lovely sunset!
Now don't get no funny ideas, just 'cuz I said I was "eager" don't mean I'm giving it away. This is really a beautiful set and it's new owners are going to have to really want it! I had to drive to Springfield Illinois today to pick it up, that's how much I wanted it!
Today we're gonna take a little stroll through the South Bend Indiana craigslist and look for some good looking vintage modern bargains. South Bend is no Chicago but with a little determination I was able to find a couple of interesting items that surely some one in the area might have missed.
I used to hang out with a buddy years ago who told me a story about getting drunk in downtown Pittsburgh PA and wandering around all night until dawn trying to find his lost car. Good thing he got so drunk! Wouldn't have wanted him finding that car. I myself have never been, so this story is all I know about Pittsburgh: It's hard to find your car when ya been drinkin'. But we ain't lookin' for our cars...we're looking for vintage modern goodness.
I've only been to Washington state once. It was beautiful! We drove through a Giant Sequoia tree! Really, if you've never been to the giant redwood forests...go. Make it your Summer Roadtrip Vacation! Plus, check out the Seattle C-list while you're up there, 'cuz I found some really good stuff just now. Click through and take a look!
Here we go again on another quest for vintage modern bargains in some far flung city that I (at least) will not be harvesting. With an estimated metropolitan area population of nearly a million people, certainly a few will find this little collection helpful. For the rest of us...read it and weep (maybe not "weep" but at least feel the sensation of envy).
Another river city like St. Louis Mo, Cincinnati Oh. was screwed by Chicago and the railroad barons of the time and had it's growth stunted. Still, like the StL, it continues to thrive and well...has a great craigslist vein just waiting to be mined! Click through and let's dig in!
...And since I was there and had some time on my hands I thought I'd shoot some pics of some of the other vendors wares. Things must going great for lots of the vendors because I see things disappearing regularly.
While at Rocket Century's "Swank-A-Rama" parking lot sale Mr. Modtomic took a little stroll through host's indoor sales area. You might remember seeing a few photos of this from their earlier sale here. This time Rocket Century had a little more time to properly stage their selling area and it looked great. They have some really nice stuff available!
These were actually bought by the Girlfriend many years ago during our early years as a couple and our first adventures in attending estate sales. I actually didn't think too much about them either way. She liked them so we brought them home. They were in continuous use for several years until she moved up here to Florissant.
