There's More To 2nd Street In Frenchtown Old St. Charles Than Fleur De Lis - Home Source. Lots More! The Bayard Street Antique Mall Is But One Example Of Why You Should Come Down And Make A Day Of Olde St. Chuck! Status: Shopping Therapy!

20130914_140742

Saturday found Mr. Modtomic and the Girlfriend playing shop keep at Fleur De Lis in old St. Charles (or locally known as Frenchtown).  Since I was already in the neighborhood, I thought I'd take a little walk just down the street to the Bayard Street Antique Mall and shoot some photos for ya.

So I Failed To Procure The Teak / Chipboard Scandinavian Roll Top Desk Yesterday (Using The Term "Failed" Rather Loosely) But That Just Set Me Up To Grab THIS Lovely Dining Set Later That Evening! Status: Available.

DSCN0018

Had the desk been in better shape (had not it been chipped) I might have gone ahead and purchased it and today you'd be checking That out instead of this.  Those roll top desks are nice and relatively easy to move since they are just a short cabinet with a hidden desk (as apposed to a large office desk) but I think this dining set will likely move just as quickly.

The Fleas Have Been A Good Source For The Smalls Lately, Both The Wentzville And The Belleville. What's Up With The 'Villes And The Fleas? Dunno, But I'm Glad They's Around! Status: Getting Tagged.

DSCN9991

One more day until the Wentzville flea!  You going?  I'm hoping it'll be a little better attended (by both vendors and buyers) than last weekend.  In the mean time, check out this little lot of smalls that I've put together from both the Wentzville and the Belleville flea markets.

So Yeah, Dana (From Mid2Mod) Hit The Nail On The Head! This Poul Kjærholms PK 24 Lounge / Chaise WAS, In Fact, One Of The Three Chairs I Journeyed To Kansas City For This Past Sunday. C'mon, It's Beautiful And Unusual...How Could I Resist?! Status: At The Shop Already!

20130819_014831

Oddly enough, this was NOT the impetus for the trip to KC.  Another chair had caught my eye and this one...this was Lagniappes!  Well...not strictly speaking, it wasn't like FREE or anything but it was a nice bonus chair to find on such a long roadtrip.

Love You Some Broyhill Brasilia But Having a Hard Time Finding Yourself A China Cabinet? Mr. Modtomic Has Got You Covered. Drop By Fleur De Lis - Home Source And Check Out This Big Guy. Status: Available.

DSCN9796

Strike while the Iron is hot...that's my motto.  Just before ouf vacation I had the opportunity to pick up this lovely Broyhill Brasilia china cabinet, and even though I really didn't have the room for it and it's purchase would dip into our vacation money, I had to have it.

A Few Years Ago The Girlfriend And I Stopped At A North City Thrift Shop And I Scored A Cool Mod Rotary Phone Which Has Since Found A New Home Via The Green Shag. Yesterday I Stopped In Again And Scored A Fantastic Pair Of Kem Weber Lounge Chairs! Status: Mid Cleanup.

DSCN9758

First thing I do in the morning after clearing Mr. Sandman's leavings is to do a quick check of craigslist on my phone.  You morning people snake so much good stuff while Mr. Modtomic is still dreaming about finding $20 Knoll Barcelona chairs at a flea market.

This Weekend We Finally Got Back Out To The Local Thrifts And Oh Was It A Nice Welcome Home! We Made A Quick Pass Of Six Local Thrifts And Brought Home Plenty. Status: First Lot.

DSCN9790

I don't know if perhaps the reason we didn't feel like we were finding much at the thrifts and fleas over vacation was because there just wasn't much to be had or because we just didn't know the hunting grounds.  Either way, it's nice to be back on familiar turf!

Sorry I Failed To Post Saturday. I've Just Had A Very Busy Weekend. Today We Took A Trip To The Wentzville Flea And Picked Up Some Vintage Brass. Status: Wiped Out!

DSCN9764

Whew...this has been a long tough weekend!  I made it a point to spend some real quality time at The Green Shag Market and give my booth there some much needed love and attention.  Alas, we also had an invitation to have home made pulled pork and peach pie at a friend's with whom we haven't had much opportunity to spend time with.

The Thrifts Were Good To Mr. Modtomic Last Weekend. I Found This Great Brass Candelabra And Plum Colored Art Glass Vase While Out And About. Status: Table Top Goods.

DSCN3478

Wow, everything posted this last week (less the Wentzville flea posting) was found last weekend!  And I even forgot to knock out some pics of a set of orange sherbert "Oven Proof" dining plates that I found at the same Goodwill from whence the Plum glass vase came.

I'd Been Eye-Ballin' This Quistgaard Cheese And Cracker Board For Ages At The Green Shag. Half Off Sale? SOLD!!! Bonus: Dropped Off A BRNO Chair And Some Smalls There Yesterday Too. Status: Win / Win.

DSCN3339

I stopped by the shop in St. Charles and The Green Shag Market yesterday to drop one of the Mies Van Der Rohe BRNO chairs in each and while at The Shag I of course had to snoop around.  There had been a Dansk cheese board there for ever that I had been pining over since it came in.  The vendor had JUST put up a Half Off sign and I pounced!

Mmmm...Don't You Just Need A Crackling Romantic Fire Now That Summer Is Here? What? No? Then How About A Retro Cone Fireplace With Electric Logs? Yeah, I Got Ya Covered. Status: At The Shop!

IMG_20130527_174127

Not a lot going on in the world of craigslist over the weekend but I picked up another cone fireplace Monday and have already dropped it off at the shop in St. Charles.  Bonus, it can be used as a real wood burning unit OR just leave these electric logs in there and forgo all the mess!

::Update!:: Back With Some More "Design Within OUR Reach". This Time I Found Some Mies Van Der Rohe "BRNO" Chairs In Sleek Stainless Steel And Lushious Chocolate Brown Leather. Status: Liquidation Special.

DSCN3330

So right away, let me get this out of the way...sadly, they are not Knoll.  They are "Made In China" repros.  I know, I was disappointed too.  Still, they are super nice reproductions, being made of real leather and polished stainless steel.  My hopes were high but did I really think my luck was that good?  Uh uh.  ::Check inside for a lil more info I just came across::

Made In America...South America That Is. I Was Told By The Former Owner Of This Huge Fantastic Fiber Wall Art That It Was Created By A Local Artist In Brazil. Status: Did I Mention Huge?

DSCN3323

I can't make that signature out...Dinah?  I don't know.  The bigger question is How Do You Feel About Fiber Art.  This can be a real contentious and polarizing issue so I'm hoping to see some lively debate in the comments...or maybe it's time has arrived and everybody's come to accept it's resurgence...like skinny jeans and pop up headlights...oh wait...that second one ain't happened yet.

This Weekend Was More About Shifting Merch Than Epic Acquisitions, But I Did Find A Couple Little Goodies. Status: Thrifty Goodness.

DSCN3319

Wow, what a weekend. I took a couple extra days of (Thursday and Friday) to make it a nice little five day mini-vacation. Of course I'm gonna scour the thrifts the whole time and as per usual, very little turned up. Seems like when I have the time to really make the rounds there's just not much to be had.

All Week Long I Had Been Spotting Stuff On Craigslist That I Couldn't, For Various Reasons, Get To Until Saturday. Stuff Like This Majestic Cone Shaped Gas Fireplace. So Yup, I Was A Busy Boy Saturday! Status: Stocked, Satisfied / Already Gone.

DSCN3250

This Majestic cone gas fireplace was spotted in the background of an ad for some shelves.  I sent an e-mail to the seller on the off chance that they might want to be rid of the fireplace too.  Turns out they were emptying a property for to put on the market and eventually they did want to be rid of it.

Ever Wonder How You Get "Ahead" In This Vintage Modern Craziness? Well, Finding "A Head" At The Flea Market Can't Hurt! Status: Flea Finds On Friday!

DSCN3229

It wasn't cheap (or maybe it was and my cheap meter is out of whack) but I wasn't finding much else and I wasn't coming home empty handed.  The seller said he had sold a dozen or so in the previous weeks but this one was his last.  I was happy to relieve him of it!

Picked Up A Bag Or Two Of Smalls A Few Days Ago That Just Run The Gammut Of Vintage. Retro? Check. Danish? Check. Antique(y)? Check. Status: Gotta Get 'Em Tagged.

DSCN3196

Since this pair of steel framed Chinese scene plaques were in sorta rough condition I almost passed on them, but then I took a second look.  That's not "rough", that's Character!  Yeah, I mean for the most part they are actually in great shape.  It's the frames that have taken the real beating anyway.  Plus, I picked up some other goodies while out checking the traps.

While I Was Picking Up The Brasilia Table From Dan Over The Weekend I Was Given A Chance To Cherry Pick His Upcoming Garage Sale And Snag One Of The First Case Study Style Planters. Status: Super Mod Smalls!

DSCN3124

Dan and a friend of his are making these Case Study style planters and I'm gonna get some in both the family shop, Fleur De Lis - Home Source and in my booth space at The Green Shag Market.  This is the first of three that I've got coming my way.  While I was there I snatched up this neato kinetic mobile sculpture.

This Sensational Dining Suite By Drexel Was What Had Me Running Around All Morning Saturday. It's The Subtle And Sublime Declaration Line...And Lots Of It! Status: Available.

DSCN3271

The name "Declaration" conjures up what, Colonial style furnishings?  This ain't that.  But to be fair, there are many pieces of the Drexel Declaration line that would perhaps fit that image you've conjured up.  I'm not sure how the two fit together and share the same name but I'm not a marketing genius either.  I'll leave that mystery to the pros.

Another Chair? Yes, I Admit To Having A Ridiculous Weakness For Fantastic Seating. Fantastic? Why Yes, This Ray Wilkes Chiclet Chair Definitely Is That! Status: Available...X 2..Plus!

DSCN3129

Seating as art.  Personally, few chairs or sofas strike me as such.  Sure, they might be lovely and gorgeous...but art?  Not so much.  The Ray Wilkes / Herman Miller Chiclet line though...a fantastic expression of post modernist creativity.  Art, if you will.  Simple yet striking.
