Sure, It Was A Three Day Weekend...But Does It Count If It Rains Every Day? Bringing Home A Pair Of Arthur Umanoff Iron And Leather Wine Racks Today Helped To Soothe The Pain. Status: A Mess.

20141013_182016

In case you also spotted this pair of Umanoff wine racks on craigslist this afternoon and thought about (or made a play for) them, you might have passed on them anyway.  They are quite the mess.  Probably haven't been dusted (much less actually cleaned) in years.

Oh How I Wish There Were More Vintage Modern Vendors Here At The Antique Mall Of Creve Coeur. There Are A Couple Others, But This Is A BIG Place. I Don't Want A Monopoly! Status: Other Vendors Stuff.

20140906_161620

If I didn't already have one of these (OK, I think mine is a 9 bottle rack but still, I think I've caught my limit!) I would have snatched this Arthur Umanoff steel and leather wine rack right up. But I didn't and as a result...You Can!

When Last We Visited This Arthur Umanoff Wine / Bar Cart It Was Still Farm Fresh / Hot Mess. I Finally Found The Much Needed Replacement Wheels So I Took The Opportunity To Go Ahead And Start The Cleanup Process. Status: It Has Begun.

20140729_124241

I was trying to get this post out early this morning but I kinda shot myself in the foot, metaphorically speaking. Was out too late last night, had two too many tall Cuba Libres, had to pick up Frank from the doctor early this morning (brakes) and had to do some minor work on him myself afterwords. I just didn't have the time.

Can You Guess What Got Me "Up And At 'Em" This Morning, Had Me Drive Four Hours Round Trip And Is Now Waiting Quietly In The Back Of Frank? Hint: It's Not Paul McCobb But Was Often Misatributed To Him For Ages. Status: Farm Fresh.

20140306_171042

It's a mess and these photographs suck, but you get the gist.  As you can see there are a number of brass rivets missing and the leather itself isn't in the greatest condition...but the bones are good and it was worth the long drive to retrieve!

South Bend Indiana. I Bet There's Someone Up There Looking For Some Vintage Style On The Cheap! Wanna See What We Can Find? Sure Ya Do. Status: Not My Turf!

Greetings From South Bend, Indiana

Today we're gonna take a little stroll through the South Bend Indiana craigslist and look for some good looking vintage modern bargains.  South Bend is no Chicago but with a little determination I was able to find a couple of interesting items that surely some one in the area might have missed.

What St. Louis Lacks In Vintage Modern Shop Grapevine Info It Surely Makes Up For In Seriously Fine Stock And Choice. So MoModerne Moves It's Headquarters Out To The County...And No One Bothers To Tell A Mr.! Status: New Address - Same Great Taste.

20130831_161709

I guess I've nobody to blame but myself.  I have to say, I haven't been out to ANY of the vintage modern shop around town lately...and so why would any of these merchants bother to let me in on news as big as the moving of their store front...much less the opening of their Second Storefront!

So How Do You Think One Gets Cast On Market Warriors...'Cuz I Think I'd Clean Up On That Show! They Used To Have Guest "Warriors" On From Time To Time And I'd Love To Get A Chance To Prove My Flea Pickin' Chops. Status: More Wentzville Smalls.

DSCN9821

The challenge with that Market Warriors is that the contestants are buying from a flea market and selling at an auction...both places where people are hoping to buy low to flip high!  The mistake I see most is the contestants buying from high end focused sellers who really know their niche - to sell at auction TO high end focused sellers who really know their niche.  No wonder they rarely hit paydirt.

Looking For Some Stylish Bargains In The Baltimore MD Region? Caryn R. Certainly Is! She Asked If I Could Take A Moment To Scrounge Through Her Neck Of The Woods To See If There Were Any Diamonds In The Rough. Let's Check Out What I Found, Shall We? Status: Not My Turf!

Greetings from Baltimore, Maryland - Large Letter Postcard

We're back up in the North East this time. It took me a couple hours to put this all together and some of the ads might be a little bit older, but there is definitely some good and undervalued stuff up here in Baltimore. Let me know in the comments if you happen to snag any of these treasures!

Ah, The Necessities Of The Wino! Mr. Modtomic Isn't Much Of A Wine Connoisseur But I Do Like A Splash Of The Vino Now And Then. Now I Can Keep My Little Stash In Style! Status: More McCo/manoff.

DSCN2671

Years ago, while at an antique mall in rural Missouri near Six Flags, I spotted a small wine rack made of steel round bar and leather.  It was only about $12 and while I failed to buy it, the wine rack stuck in my brain.  Maybe a week or two later I spotted a similar piece on eBay which described it as a Paul McCobb design.  Of course I drove right back down to that antique mall as soon as I could, but alas...the rack was gone.  Lesson learned.  Desire cemented.

Mr. Modtomic Is Just A Big Ol' Softy. Always Bringing Home Strays And Orphans. This Arthur Umanoff Stool Is A Bit Of A Mess But I Couldn't Leave It Behind! Status: Wanting For Some Love!

DSCN2546

Someone thought it might be a good idea paint the wood and jute twine back a sad shade of brown.  ::Sigh::  Can the jute be saved?  Does it matter?  How much trouble would it be to re-wind the backrest?  Anybody ever restore an Umanoff jute wound chair or barstool?

On Our Way East Toward New York State We Made A Pit Stop In Columbus Oh. You Know I Can't Stop And Not Shop! Revue - Columbus OH. Status: Oh Yeah...They Got GOOD Stuff!

DSCN0416

Nice pair, dontcha think?!  We were barely into the first aisle in Revue - a Columbus OH antique mall and consignment shop - when we ran into this pair of Knoll Barcelona chairs.  Oh how I loves me some Barcelona chairs!  That got the camera out and it was well worth my time to do so.  There was plenty there to photograph.  If you live in or near Columbus OH you have a little of my envy!  From the little we traveled through, we found it quite nice!

It Is Unfortunate That I will Only Be Able To Bring Two Wagonloads Of Stuff To The Big Green Shag Parking Lot Sale. Status: Bursting At The Seams!

DSCN7303

As you can see, it's right up to the door!  Lot's of this is project material that I've just not gotten to yet.  I'm hoping to get a few of those done in the next 16 days so as to offer them at the big Modtomic Lot Sale at the Green Shag Market.

Mr. Mod. Makes A Pass Through MoMod. Mothers Day On The South Side. Status: Fresh Stock.

DSCN7253

The Girlfriend and I met with the Moms downtown this (late) morning for a Mothers Day brunch. Good foods were had and the weather was just nice enough that we were able to sit outside. The getting out of bed early (Mr. Modtomic is so not a morning person) kinda kicked my butt, but I still had just enough juice left to make a little trip to the MoModerne showroom in South City.

Although I Shamelessly Pour Through C-list Ads And Often Snatch Up Good Stuff Within Hours Of Listing, This Arthur Umanoff Bar Sat Unbought For Days! Status: Trigger Pulled.

DSCN6090

It's funny how some really good stuff can sit on craigslist for days without being snatched.  I just had an e-mail conversation with a local reader about a pair of chairs that sat unbought for well over a week on the list.  He had apparently shot off an e-mail after the sellers had bumped up the ad and gotten no reply.  Miffed, he did the next logical thing: he shot me a note asking if I had snatched them up!

The Barstools At Kevins Crib Reminded Me That I Have A Pair Of Beat Up Umanoff Barstools Out In The Garage! Status: Rediscovered.

DSCN5245

These are...how you say? Rough.  They've been rode hard and put away wet.  Maybe Rustic is a more attractive term.  Shabby Mod?  Has that term been coined?  Anybody who knows me or has been reading this blog knows I have a weakness for rod iron and wood furniture like this.

I Know I Know...I'm Late...C'mon...It's New Years Day! Of Course I Had To Recover. Check Out My Buddy's Raymor Barstools. Status: 1 Down - 364 To Go.

DSCN5204

We celebrated New Years Eve on the South Side like a proper couple of St. Louis Hoosiers!  We had a delicious dinner at The Shaved Duck where we absolutely stuffed ourselves silly then headed over to my good friend Kevin's joint to drink and have Hoppin' John at midnight.  We bought him these vintage Barstools for his birthday about 4 or 5 years ago.  Arthur Umanoff?

New Orleans Vintage Shop Crush. Lil' Place Called Peaches on Magazine Street. Status: This Long Distance Thing Just Won't Work Out.

DSCN1534

This little shop on Magazine Street was a little rough around the edges but definitely had the goods where it counts. If you happen to get down to the Big Easy you might wanna stop by and check it out.
