So these were actually two different lots from the same vendor. I wasn't sure if I needed the Gravy Boat but I wanted that ladle. The salt and pepper shakers where a shot in the dark too. Turns out I needed 'em.
Neophobia was always one of our favorite stops in New Orleans. I guess it's been a little while since our last time through since we found it gone and in it's place Loisel Vintage Modern. We peeked in through the windows up front and were sorely dissapointed that we weren't able to get in, but I am happy with their choice of name. I've been championing the term "Vintage Modern" ever since I started blogging as a more appropriate label for that which we all love. Seems to be catching on!
Seems like just yesterday I was pontificating upon the beginnings of setting up shop in an antique mall...wait, it WAS just yesterday! Little did I know that I'd be shooting pics of my Own new empty booth space today. Life IS funny that way...or at least it THINKS it is.
Like some sort of Super Magnet these two pieces of Franciscan Starburst drew me RIGHT to them. It's not like I need a Starburst teapot and platter...it's just that...I really do NEED that Starburst teapot and platter!
You'd think I save something special for a day like today. I just don't roll that way. Posting daily means I just don't have time to plan what I post about on say "Fridays". I would have liked to have had something really cool for today, but this little lot ain't nothing to sneeze at, right?
Just about everybody we told that we were in the area for the Canton Flea looked at us like we were nuts. Even some of the comments here on the blog disparaged the Canton First Monday Flea Market. "Why?" was what everyone seemed to be asking. Sure, there might be places with more abundant vintage modern offerings, but generally places with better ratios of Wheat to Chaff are gonna cost you more...and I like separating that Wheat and Chaff!
Wow, look at that. "The Oil Capital Of The World"! I thought Tulsa Oklahoma was here in the Midwest... not the Middle East! At any rate, let's take a gander at what the Tulsa craigslist might have to offer the casual browser.
I still find it amazing that there are "antique" malls in Chicago that deal almost exclusively in vintage modern. I wonder if they curate their vendors in a way to ensure this great selection. In any event, the selection is absolutely amazing. But this serious Mass and Quality of selection comes at a price. Although I was able to pick up a couple nice bargains here, most of these vendors know Exactly what they have and have it priced accordingly!
On the one hand, I kinda hope it's a mask....cuz a Wookie head trophy is just....not right. Then again...putting a Wookie mask on is kind of...Hannibal Vader. ::shudder:: But let us digress and take a walk around the Southport Antique Mall, Indianapolis Indiana. There's lots of less questionable items to feast your eyes upon, promise!
You gotta love finding all pretty little things at your local "traps" but finding them on the road is even more fun. You get a cool looking item and a memory of where you were and what you were doing that day! This lot is from all over the North East!
A nice lot of Franciscan Starburst dinnerware popped up on craigslist a few days ago and although not stupid bargain priced, I thought for sure they would be snatched up tout de suite. I even called a friend of mine who also collects the Starburst (Illuminate) to give her a heads up as her collection isn't yet as sizable as Mr. Modtomic's.
We stopped today at a couple of antique malls just off the highway south of here near Cuba Mo. We didn't find anything note worthy in the first but found a booth full of all kinds of good smalls in the second. The Girlfriend spotted the booth first and said something like "Oh Sweety, you're gonna like this one."
I got bored with all the Russel Wright in the china cabinet and since we're having a change of season, I thought it might be time to change up the display. It's all Vintage Modern Franciscan now and for the time being. I was surprised how much R.W. I had to put away! I got LOTS.
There were lots of sweet vintage modern pieces at that first estate sale Friday morning...and I got mine...but I left lots of stuff behind, cuz Mr. Modtomic ain't greedy...and well, it wasn't exactly the cheapest estate sale I've ever been to. Not crazy expensive but not crazy cheap either. I imagine some other lucky folks cleaned up on Saturday or Sunday!
There are 8 pieces here but on of the side plates has a sizable chip in the back of it's edge and there is a small chip on the top edge of one of the dinner plates. It's all good though. This set isn't perfect and isn't intended to be just displayed but actually used. I now have a nice 31 piece set of this Franciscan Duet available for immediate delivery!
