I've had Seven of these Erik Buck dining chairs floating around here for ages now. You know I can't stand having uneven sets, right? So those Seven have been pushed both to the back of the garage as well as my brain. Not so anymore.
This super mod swag lamp came from the same home as the last four chairs I've featured here. I tol' ya! I cleaned the joint out! Today I got to thinking about the long journey it took for me to get there. Want the condensed version? Yeah, I don't have THAT much time either!
I found a set of cushions at the Goodwill a few days ago and had to pull this Danish Lounge Chair frame out of the garage to see if they'd work. Verdict? Mixed results. Click through to check out a video!
Yup, tthat's the Girlfriend's new car right there. We stopped at a Roadhouse Sunday for dinner on highway 20 after experiencing severe construction delays on I 90. Turned out to be a beautiful detour!
We're on the road starting our vacation and we made it no further than about 40 miles up highway 55 toward Chicago (our first stop) when we HAD to pull off to partake of some soft serve served up out of a soft serve shaped soft serve shop! Sadly, this is it for the Twistee Treat post...the rest is a repost from last year, but it was a good one. Check it out! The Retro Palms.
While still far from perfect, giving this Drexel blanket chest a nice rub down with Howards certainly did it a lot of good. There are some imperfections on the left side that nothing short of a full refinish will help with, but it presents well now. At least a lot better than it did! And now it is awaiting a new home along with the Drexel dresser in my booth at the Antique Mall of Creve Coeur.
When last we saw this lamp I had just brought it home from the flea market and I didn't have a bulb for it. I actually took the lamp with me to the hardware store to make sure I got the correct socket size...it was a weird one that I hadn't seen before. Well, it kinda pokes out but I think it's supposed to!
Yup, they's available...just as soon as I can get a free moment to get them down to the booth! Free moments are being less than entirely available lately though. The Girlfriend is having an all girl party Friday and I have to clean the house (well, I have to evacuate all the antique mall over stock from the living room...and dining room.....and family room.......and kitchen).
Roadtrips must be in my blood. I've been to California three time and only flew there (against my better judgement) once. Every Spring and Summer the Girlfriend and I strike out toward parts unknown in the car, looking for adventure. Even the drive to Chicago from St. Louis, what would seem pretty boring, is actually quite nice...what with all the pretty windmills and usually a lovely sunset!
This cow hide rug was the only craigslist purchase I made during our entire vacation. I didn't do much hunting but I did pass on checking out a set of six dining chairs in Key Largo that seriously smacked of Gio Ponti. This I snagged on the fly while passing near Tampa FL.
I stopped by the Green Shag Market this morning before work to check the state of my booth since I knew the Sater leather sofa was sold and was supposed to be picked up this week and the spider leg table was also gone. I wanted to see what kinda situation I was going to have to deal with this weekend.
While lamenting my inability to find and or identify vintage Christmas ephemera on Saturday at a local thrift, we turned a corner and came face to face with Santa and Frosty! Just like that (::snaps fingers::)! And while these might have been made later, they are marked 1968 AND Made in the USA.
OK, so I talk a big game about searching craigslist without using keyword, but for real...I still do it. I DO, in fact, miss a thing or two by plowing headlong through reams and reams of ads to find those what lack the oh so useful keywords. Would have missed these had I not...and that would have been sad.
I've found a number of nice prints and originals lately and of them I'm smitten with this black and white painting of what I've figured out is Piazza San Marco in Venice Italy. I had a couple other pieces out and asked the Girlfriend whether they should stay or go and the pencil portrait by a June Kessler struck her fancy.
I've already got the tags made up! Well, some of 'em, anyway. I got stuff leaving the booth right and left. I need to keep replacement items ready and waiting to drop off on my way to work. It's good to keep things fresh and full in the booth. I'm glad that it's sorta on my way to work.
Another stupid amazing craigslist find. This time it wasn't StL. craigslist but Springfield Il. criagslist. Yet, it wasn't in Springfield but Jacksonville Il. At least Jacksonville is about 25 miles closer and although there isn't a major highway that leads there the two lane blacktop that does is nice and straight...due north!
Two weeks ago it looked like it would be a perfect weekend to hit the Wentzville Flea Market. I awoke to my alarm and a thunder shower pummeling the flea market. Denied. Last weekend, illness. Denied. This weekend - we finally made it! And found almost nothing, just a few smalls for the Booth Space (44 @ The Green Shag Market). ::Sigh::
Today was a good day. What a way to end a pretty brutal July. Frank got a brand new windshield and Mr. Modtomic got a Paul McCobb secretary desk! The windshield is flawless but the secretary...well, come on inside and I'll show ya.
After quickly wrapping up the Dorothy Thorpe chip and dip set (featured yesterday) that I picked up from estate sale #2, I started making my way home to get a few hours of much needed sleep. I am not a fan of leaving sleep on the table, but I spotted a green hand made "Estate Sale -->" sign at a corner. Ugh. Of course I turned around.
A nice lot of Franciscan Starburst dinnerware popped up on craigslist a few days ago and although not stupid bargain priced, I thought for sure they would be snatched up tout de suite. I even called a friend of mine who also collects the Starburst (Illuminate) to give her a heads up as her collection isn't yet as sizable as Mr. Modtomic's.
