See That Label? Means A Lot To Us, Right? Not So Much To Someone In New Orleans With A Couple Cans Of Paint And A Bright Idea. But Again, There Ain't Nothin' That Can't Be Saved, Right? Begs The Question: Should It Be "Saved"? Status: (Update) Already Gone.

Funny little story about this little Knoll stool: I spotted it many years ago in New Orleans at another shop at the far west end of Magazine Street.  I had hoped at the time that the seller would let it go for cheap since they obviously didn't have a clue of what it was.

Ahhh...Nice! More Knoll / Saarinen Armchairs! You Only See Five Right Here But I Assure You That There Are Nine Total. Hey, It's Hard To Shoot Nine Chairs All At Once! Status: Available.

20151002_161540_HDR~2

Aren't these fantastic!  I managed to procure Nine Knoll / Eero Saarinen tilt swivel rolling armchairs a few days ago...and what a crazy chore it was to get them all in the back of Frank.  Believe me, it weren't easy!

Being From St. Louis And Seeing The Gateway Arch Every Day On My Way To Work, Mr. Modtomic Is A Big Fan Of Eero Saarinen. So When I Can Procure A Beautiful Set Of Knoll / Saarinen Armchairs I Of Course Jump At The Chance! Status: Available.

As office chairs go, the Eero Saarinen armchair is absolutely one of the most stylish choices, but just by looking at these chairs here on the innernets what you are missing is how seriously comfy these chairs are.

I Know It Seems A Strange Thing To Complain About, But Am I Cursed To Find Odd Number Sets?! Then Again, Do You Think I Thought About Leaving Even ONE Of These Early Bertoia Side Chairs Behind? Status: Restore / Flip?

DSC_0409

What a crumby day to shoot blog pics.  At least it wasn't actually raining...or even cold for that matter. But beautiful Sun light?  Forget about it.  Thankfully I was only shooting these Five white Bertoia side chairs, so the lack of brilliant color wasn't so much an issue. Five?  Yup, the curse lives on.

Sunday Night, Upon Arriving Home After Dropping By CCAM To Pays My Rent, This Sprung Up On Craigslist...And Right Back Out The Door I Went. A Genuine Jens Risom / Knoll Chair? Yes, Thank You! Status: Soon To Be Avialable.

DSC_0182

Well, this ain't an every day occurrence!  Genuine Knoll, well known designer pieces for bargain prices (even on craigslist) are always a welcome if infrequent find.  Luckily I spotted this one about an hour after it was listed.  A half hour later it was in the back of the car.

You Just Never Know When The List Is Gonna Pony Up The Good Stuff. This Is The Third Designer Score This Week, And I've Always Wanted A Warren Platner / Knoll Easy Chair And Ottoman. Status: Crossed Off The Bucket List / Already Gone.

20140920_185102

Who doesn't love a classic mid century modern design like the Warren Platner Easy Chair and Ottoman?  Years ago I spotted a set of Lounge Chairs on the Kansas City craigslist but I was just a little too late to get those.  This acquisition soothes that fail quite a bit!

I Don't Know...Is This A Travesty Or Utter Brilliance? Personally, I Love It. I Think This Danish Modern Inlaid Tile Drop Leaf Table Top Looks Fantastic Attached To This Florence Knoll Base...But I Won't Have To Live With It. Status: Hot Or Not?

20140901_183726

I picked up the Florence Knoll base with half of a (LARGE) walnut conference table top.  Unfortunately, since it was just half a top, there is a full edge that is unfinished.  That top isn't marked Knoll either, so I don't even know if it was original.  I kicked around the idea of cutting that top down to a desk size but then I found this!

So This Happened Last Night. A "Seller" On Craigslist Wanted To GIVE This Florence Knoll Table Away...For The Low Low Price Of Nothing! I Had To Have It And Wasn't Down With Paying Nothing So I Made Him A Little Better Offer. Status: Acquired.

20140725_123531

While the top leaves a little to be desired (although I do believe it to be a custom Knoll piece) this IS my favorite dining table.  This is the third Florence Knoll dining table / desk that I've come across but only the second that I've brought home.

Oh How I Hate Waiting. Just Ask The Girlfriend. Restaurant With A Wait List? C-Ya. Line At The Grocery Store...Hmmph. Mostly It's This Instant Gratification World, But Sometimes It's Just Apprehension. A "Will It Be There When I Have Time To Pick It Up?" Kinda Worry. Status: No Worries...This Time!

20140410_155013

This Fabulous Knoll Bastiano sofa and love seat were made available at about midnight the evening before last.  I shot off a note to the seller a couple hours after it was posted with little hope of actually scoring the set, but then...the next morning I got the call.

Saturday Was Mostly Spent On The Road Messing Around Central Illinois. We Started Out At The Belleville Flea Market And Ended Up In Springfield Illinois At The Barrel Anique Mall. Status: Tons Of Good Stuff!

20140315_165626

This place, Barrel Antique Mall Springfield Il., was a pleasant surprise.  It's always nice to find a vendor in an antique mall hawking the Vintage Modern.  Sometimes it's just a one or two...maybe a few...vendors with a piece or two available, but this place had booth after lovely booth of good stuff!

One Of The MANY Advantages Of Being On The Mr. Modtomic Blogging Team Is Having Your Available Wares Pimped Out To The MILLIONS (OK, Hundreds) Of Loyal Readers Here. It Helps That We're All In The Same Antique Mall; The Green Shag Market! Status: The Rounds.

20140208_161338

Yup, rent's due.  Had to get by both antique malls today to empty my pockets and check last month's take.  Not too shabby, BTW (thank you everybody who picked up a lil something from the Mr.!).  There were some changes already here in booth 5 and there'll be more to come soon!

Today I Picked Up A Great Table Base That I Initially Thought / Hoped Was A Florence Knoll Design...But Alas, Close But No Cigar. Still, It Was Attractive Enough To Bring Home. Status: Gone Topless.

DSCN0330

I spotted this on craigslist last night, but you know how crappy craigslist photos can fool ya...especially when you are really trying to be fooled.  Oh how I wanted this to be a Knoll table base.  The seller insisted that it is a Herman Miller base, but I find this attribution dubious.

How Far Would You Drive And To Score What? Mr. Modtomic Has Been Known To Wander Far And Wide To Acquire Many A Treasure. How 'Bout You? Status: Curious.

Frank Roadtrip Reflection

Roadtrips must be in my blood. I've been to California three time and only flew there (against my better judgement) once. Every Spring and Summer the Girlfriend and I strike out toward parts unknown in the car, looking for adventure. Even the drive to Chicago from St. Louis, what would seem pretty boring, is actually quite nice...what with all the pretty windmills and usually a lovely sunset!

MCM in the Room - The Butterfly Chair

Hi Mister Modtomic readers!  It's CT from Living Analog.  I am so excited that the Mister asked me to contribute to his blog.  It's great to join forces with Nick Armadillo and Secondhand Hannah to bring some extra content to the Modtometrists.  Upon writing this, it kind of sounds like those three have super-thrifting-hero names - I may need to rethink my Internet moniker.  At any rate, my goal here at Mister Modtomic is to be the MCM "Calgon, Take Me Away" of your day.  What on earth does that mean?  It means I'll be highlighting MCM furniture in situ after beautiful situ.

For today, I thought I'd start you off with something I've been dreaming of for a while - the Butterfly Chair.  Also called the Hardoy chair or the BKF chair after (one of its) creators, Jorge Ferrari Hardoy.  Why the other two guys didn't make it into MCM history is any one's guess.  MOMA has one of the three original Butterfly chairs and then Knoll added it to its line back in 1947.  However the chair could not be patented because it was found to already be a derivative of another chair.  Thus copies, knock-offs and many similar-but-not-quite Butterflies abound in our world.  And I think I know why - they can fit themselves into just about any style.

Did I Mention That The Randolph Street Market Had A WHOLE Another Indoor Selling Area? Wanna Check It Out? Click On Through My Friend! Status: Feel That AC!

20130824_130538

That's right, if shopping out on the blacktop parking lot gets a little too warm you can always take a few minutes to shop the indoor vendors.  Two and a half floors of climate controlled vintage shopping fun!

What St. Louis Lacks In Vintage Modern Shop Grapevine Info It Surely Makes Up For In Seriously Fine Stock And Choice. So MoModerne Moves It's Headquarters Out To The County...And No One Bothers To Tell A Mr.! Status: New Address - Same Great Taste.

20130831_161709

I guess I've nobody to blame but myself.  I have to say, I haven't been out to ANY of the vintage modern shop around town lately...and so why would any of these merchants bother to let me in on news as big as the moving of their store front...much less the opening of their Second Storefront!

More Pics From The Randolph Street Market In Chicago. And Believe Me...This Isn't Even The HALF Of It! Oddly Enough Though, The Flea Isn't What I'd Call Huge...Or Even That Big. Status: Well Curated!

20130824_111218

THIS is what happens when a flea can pick and choose who sets up.  Instead of wildly random vendors, you can see a focus develop.  It's not so narrow as to end up with just 25 buyers walking around either.  My guess, it takes a delicate touch and a spine of steel.  Don't know if I'd want that job!
