When did Hippos become synonymous with smoking? Then again, how did a camel become a cartoon character luring children to buy cigarettes? And orange? Ah...the sixties...and hippies!
Beyond being a Raymor product (they of the Arthur Umanoff product fame) this is just a seriously beautiful piece of pottery. It had me at that glossy Yellow and Black glaze and asymmetric design.
This, like a lot of the items I've been showing off lately, was another of the pieces I snatched up at the recent Vintage Modern auction across the river. I didn't really go for the smalls but, alas...I just couldn't resist this little Brastoff "Pod" ashtray. Weird, right...I don't even smoke.
See! Necessity IS the mother of invention! No more room on the floor of your booth? Go up! I'm way behind the curve on this though. So many of the other vendors have already done this...and done it well. Well, I'm playing catch up now.
Right now I'm feeling both pretty good about having lots of extra stock for the booth (a dry spell would be boring but I could easily shrug it off) and somewhat nervous about what to do with all this stuff! I'm hoping to hear from The Big Bend Antique Market this coming November about renting a couple booth spaces so as to have another venue to shift goods.
Both of these items today were purchased at the Flea...but different Fleas. The Ashtray Stand - Belleville, the Chemex - Wentzville. Both are kind of a mess...but that's kind of par for the course with the Flea Markets!
