So I'm still out of town and am on the road home. We can't pass up a good antique mall and found a big one in Georgia where we happened upon this large brutalist cabinet.
Wait, don't that look like some huge alien bug's face? It's not, I assure you. It is, in fact, my new acquisition of a super rare pair of Salterini iron and leather Maurizio Tempestini chairs and a fancy spider leg and brass tray occasional table!
I've always had an admiration for the Cherner Ant chair. Really, most vintage modern bent plywood chairs. I've never had a good opportunity to acquire one until this latest trip to Chicago.
The thrifts...they ain't been good to a Mr. I've had Four straight days of strike outs. I Mean NOTHING! Man that stings. But, I've managed to corral a few good things off craigslist today and I'm fixing up a neat chair so I'll get you the 411 on those tomorrow. Until then, cute pics of King Larry / McDuff.
I had spotted a sizable set of Russel Wright Steubenville dinnerware all in grey at an estate sale Saturday that opened an hour after the sale where I picked up the Overman swivel recliner. I didn't waste any time at the first sale and got to the second sale about an 15 minutes before it started only to find I was picking up number 12. Hmmm.
Touring at least one of the few remaining Great Camps of The Adirondacks was the principal impetus for pointing our Roadtrip Vacation North East this year. Oh sure, we've been doing all the fun stuff and plowing through the tourist traps with aplomb but one must include some culture to cut the sweet sugary silliness of all the other stuff we're doing!
This quite large hula girl statue is ARTICULATED! The hips and grass skirt slowly swivel...hypnotizing any who dare to stop and stare. It's worth it. You're gonna get pretty "hypnotized" by all the amazing cocktails anyway.
The Way Out Club in South St. Louis (2525 South Jefferson Avenue St. Louis, MO 63104-2307) is one of the best places to see a good punk rock band or a high energy rockabilly show while getting your Pabst Blue Ribbon on. I don't get down there as often as I used to but The Way Out is still at the top of my list of cool dive bars here in St. Louis.
Steamboats...St. Louis. I get it. Of course there's a ton of this Southern Comfort bar ware around here. It still seems a little freaky (and fortuitous since I totally dig it!) that I find SO much So-Co bar ware at the thrift stores!
One last "lot" from the vacation roadtrip shopping extravaganza. Whew...we didn't bring home any big items but we had bags and boxes of all these little things.
This is so Yin / Yang. I had such a great vacation. Nothin' but good times and relaxation. But the moment we pulled into the driveway I had to mow the grass...then unload the car. Then I had to get up early and mow some more grass before heading into work. And it's been nothing but trying to get things done with no time since.
Pretty ain't it? And right down the street. And since it's at the Salvation Army it's gonna be cheap too. So what gives with the Status? Oh, read on my friend...but be warned, it's gonna hurt a little.
You know, the orange looks like crap in pictures but it didn't look too bad to the naked eye! It looked a lot better after the HOURS of staple pulling...
Wow, everything posted this last week (less the Wentzville flea posting) was found last weekend! And I even forgot to knock out some pics of a set of orange sherbert "Oven Proof" dining plates that I found at the same Goodwill from whence the Plum glass vase came.
Today I dropped off at The Green Shag Market, the red floor lamp I featured yesterday as well as the big blue cityscape print and this pair of Lloyd Harding western prints. I found that the Broyhill Brasilia lamp table had found a new home but didn't have time to take a good look around the other booths to see what was new.
What do you think...is it a Sonneman? I can't find another Sonneman with this sort of base. Either way, it's a darn cool lamp and you probably need it in your home. The plan is to drop it off at The Green Shag Market Thursday morning.
Oh, to have found an original painting instead of another print. I'm lucky enough to have all (but one) original paintings here in the Modtomic Ranch we call Lily (the Lily Pad...get it?). Since this one is a print it goes to the booth. Still, it's a rather striking print and would look right at home here.
After the flea market on Sunday and the less than overwhelming take from that, we had to hit some thrifts to get our fix. On our way to the Savers out in the county we found a new Goodwill. Lucky we did, cuz I found this little guy waiting inside!
I'm pretty sure that this big ol' bear skin rug was the coolest thing at the flea this weekend. It definitely got the most attention. It weren't cheap though, I think it had a tag asking $550. No thanks. Ever rolled around on a bear skin rug? A small percentage of me thinks "yuk" but I've done it and I can tell you...it's the very definition of luxury.
I really am turning into a "crazy cat guy", 'ceptn these cats aren't eating me out of house and home...plus they's so easy to clean up after! I'm still on the hunt for some Royal Dux Bohemia kitters but I have to say, finding all four of these today was quite a coup!
I'll admit, I don't get down to The Shag as often as I'd like. Such is life, so I understand if you haven't been there in a lil' bit yourself. Here's some pics to wet your appetite! Yes...that IS a Jens Risom desk.
Check it out...some are even framed for hanging! And that's a ton of postcards, too. Dan was gonna sell these at his garage sale but I just happened to be there picking up a table he refinished for me a couple of days before and got to snatch 'em up before hand. Score!
You might remember the Ray Wilkes Chiclet chair that I featured a couple months ago. This is the same chair and it's matching Chiclet sofa. I actually have yet ANOTHER Chiclet chair that I just didn't have time to gather up and re-assemble as well. Just, I don't know...imagine another chair in there!
I've been kinda slacking lately. I know..."A lampshade?" But they do seem to be becoming more and more difficult to find these days. And what use is a cool looking lamp sans lampshade? None!
I only just got my Photoshop installed mere moments ago and the realized that I'll have to set IT up as well. I just don't currently have the wear-with-all to do that just now. I'll just do without watermarks for today. The new PC is Fantastic but WOW...a 23" (high def) screen is huge! My neck is getting tired from looking back and forth from one side to the other.
Pour yerself a cold glass of ice tea and join me on the porch swing...but bring yer laptop so's we can take a good lookin' at the stylish bargains to be had on Craigslist - Atlanta GA.
I cleaned this one up just to see how it would look but for real, they all need to be repainted. They'd look sharp in just about any color. Think how cool one would be color matched to your front door. Or just basic satin black, white or silver.
