More Brutality courtesy of Lane Furniture. Mod Brutalist Bedroom set in the manor of Paul Evans. Status: Gone.

SSPX2170

This bedroom set was still sitting in the Salvation Army (54 Grandview Plz Shp Ctr Florissant, MO 63033-6105 (314) 921-5761) when I left this afternoon.  (Update 08/29/14 - Just found out this line by Lane is called "Pueblo"!)

It's a little banged up but looked like a great candidate for a before / after treatment. If only I had the room in the garage... ::shakes head:: I can only bring so many strays home. If it's still sitting there next weekend I might just HAVE to make some room. Do a little Googlin' and check out the asking price for some of this stuff. It's ridiculous and while it might never be realized, that anybody thinks it's a resonable starting point, well that says SOMETHING.

It's definitely inspired by the Brutalist pieces by Paul Evans but reeks of mass production. I've not found a lot of info about it but it LOOKS like it was manufactured in the '70s. I've seen it listed on various web sites as being manufactured in the '60s as well, but I'm not buying it. It's got that splattered stain finish that seems so prevalent in the '70s. This set is so not my thing...but I bet a few years from now I'll regret not snatching it up. Who am I kidding...I'll probably head back tomorrow and buy it.

Update: 10/16/10 It was gone today when I went to check.

  3. It's absolutely hideous but kind of cool at the same time. You'd have to have just the right buyer.

  7. D.B. - Heh, "killer" style...I get it..."horrible auto accident" "SAW movie" "Hostel movie"...maybe that not what you meant though.

Mdrnsa. - I can TOTALLY see that! Would have never thought about that though had you not mentioned it! Surround these pieces with exotic tropical plants and viola! It's totally TIKI time!

Lane is really on the "come-up." Its finally finding its place among the big boys-McCobb, Eames, Saarinen...

It sells like wild fire on the east & west coasts.

Appreciate all the info you are sharing. At AOM we hold Lane in very high regard. I especially like the exaggerated sawtooth examples.

    Cheers!

I am so excited I won't be able to sleep tonight!
These are going for huge amounts now on E-bay.
I know its sacrilege but I am going to look for another long dresser , paint it white and use it for a TV stand in the living room. Brutal......

  30. I see that this post has been going on for some time. My parents have this full set that they purchased for about 3000.00 in the mid 70's. Even as a kid I looooooooed it. They still have it all and it has held up so beautifully. I would LOVE to find a set for myself. Until now, I have only eer seen a nightstand and headboard-several years ago, at a Salvation Army. That price of 249.00 for all 4 pieces-WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW. If anyone ever sees or has any of these pieces for sale in the Metro Detroit area-I WANT IT :))))))
