While Tooling South On 127 Through Cincinnati Ohio We Stumbled Upon A Little Shop Full Of Vintage Modern Treasures Called Object By Modology. Status: Welcome Distraction.

20140808_173426

Sadly, there just wasn't much by way of vintage modern to be had along the section of the 127 Corridor World's Longest Flea Market / Yard Sale that we managed to scavenge this trip. That's not to say I failed to fill a good portion of Franks back end, but when we spotted this joint, it was like a fresh of breath air!

I Don't Normally Tout Hotels Or Hotel Rooms Unless They Are Vintage Mom And Pop Places That Exceed Expectations...But This "Sleep Inn" Room In Provo Utah Just Floored Us. Status: Less Than $100 Before Taxes!

20140626_231839_LLS

We booked this room from the road just using our "smart" phones.  Ain't it amazing what can be accomplished while driving these days?  They only had a couple rooms still available at this Sleep Inn in Provo Utah and we were lucky enough to snag this one...and for about $95!

You Go To Yellowstone National Park And You Just About CAN'T Take A Bad Photo. I Do Have To Thank The Weather For Cooperating Though. They Ain't Lying When They Say You Can't Really See Yellowstone In A Day. Status: Visited.

20140621_174231

Yup, that's Ol' Faithful!  We only had to wait around about 25 - 30 minutes for the big show too.  AND it wasn't that crowded either!  And like I mentioned above...the weather was perfect!  What crazy Ju Ju is this?

A Couple Nights Ago We Had To Find A Place To Stay For The Night After Visiting Mount Rushmore. We Got Lucky And Scored The Last Available Room At The Battle Creek Lodge. No Great Sign But It Was A Lovely Place To Rest Our Weary Bones! Status: Stayed.

20140618_203531

While waiting for the Girlfriend to secure the room I noticed this amazing sunset and just had to jump out of the car to shoot some pics.  We probably should have stuck around Mount Rushmore to see this but might have missed out on this last room.

We Pulled Off I-90 At Wall South Dakota And Immediately Scoped Out The Motel Situation. The Girlfriend Spotted This Great Motel Welsh Neon Sign And The Decision Was Made. Status: Stayed.

20140616_221853

Ain't that a great neon sign? Wouldn't that drag you to a screeching halt? Turns out the room was only about $60 and it wasn't too shabby! Click through to check it out.

We're Still On The Road Heading West Out Of Rockford Il. We Got Off I 90 Because Of Construction And Found A Roadhouse To Stop For Dinner. Status:Fantastic Sunset.

20140615_202540

Yup, tthat's the Girlfriend's new car right there.  We stopped at a Roadhouse Sunday for dinner on highway 20 after experiencing severe construction delays on I 90.  Turned out to be a beautiful detour!

Vacation 2014 Has Commenced. We Are On Our Way To The Great Open Skies Of The West / North West. Of Course, We're Starting By Heading North First But We'll Be Heading West Soon. Status: Little "Taste"!

20140614_205735_LLS

We're on the road starting our vacation and we made it no further than about 40 miles up highway 55 toward Chicago (our first stop) when we HAD to pull off to partake of some soft serve served up out of a soft serve shaped soft serve shop!  Sadly, this is it for the Twistee Treat post...the rest is a repost from last year, but it was a good one.  Check it out!  The Retro Palms.

We Got A Little Crazy Today And Jumped Into The Car For A Little Road Trip. We Ended Up At The Golden Door Motel At The Lake Of The Ozarks And Are Having A Ball! Status: Stayed.

20140328_170721_LLS

Well, "Stayed" is a little optimistic since I'm writing from the room.  Tomorrow it will be "stayed".  But thus far we are happy with the joint.  See the door on the sign?  It constantly rotates!  How fun is that?

Another Little Motel We Stayed At For A Single Evening While In Florida. This One - The Pelican Post - Was In Brandenton Beach FLA And Was Perfectly Situated Between The Beach And The Bay. Status: Cute As A Button!

DSCN9629

We stopped here just before sunset actually just looking for a place to eat and got suckered by the laid back attitude of the area and the drop dead gorgeous beach.  Finding this little reasonably priced motel didn't hurt either!

Sadly, Not All Roadside Motels Make It. This One In Florida Near The Suwannee River Must Have Been Abandoned Many Years Ago. Still, There Is A Certain Beauty To The Decay. Status: Long Gone.

DSCN9657

Nature always wins. Try as we might, it's a losing battle. One only need to look at our driveway to see it's true. Weeds and grass grow wildly in the cracks between the concrete slabs...and we drive on it EVERY DAY! Once, the Girlfriend and I had a debate / disagreement while watching I Am Legend (Will Smith remake of Vincent Price movie Last Man On Earth) concerning how quickly grass would take over the streets and whatnot.

Mr. Modtomic Is Such A Sucker For And Just Cannot Resist A Good Motel Sign! Driving Back From The Florida Keys We Happened Upon This One For The Suwannee Gables Motel And Out Came The Camera. Status: Nice Location.

DSCN9645

That poor woman (the Girlfriend, that is), she just never knows when Frank is going to come to a screetching halt because of a cool vintage sign that popped up out of nowhere! This time we were ostensibly headed home with only a few days left of vacation. Somehow, between Key Largo and Destin FLA we found ourselves crossing the Suwanee River...yeah, just like in the old timey song!

If Ya Like Vintage Roadside Motel Signs You're Gonna Like This Post! I Didn't Stay At Any Of These Joints But I Couldn't Resist Stopping To Take Some Quick Photos To Share. Status: Enjoy!

DSCN9584

I didn't spot too many of these grand neon signs down in the Florida Keys so I took a couple quick photos of a couple of those I did.  I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of development in the keys.  It really turned out to be just like my Jimmy Buffet, Conch eatin', Coctail swilling, Sunset spyin', Fresh out the Ocean Seafood eatin' fantasy...you know?

Another Vacation...Another Lot Of Vintage Motels. Sorry If This Isn't Your Thing But I Feel These Lovely Little Mom And Pop Places Need A Light Shined On Them Now And Then! Status: Lost And Found.

DSCN3517

The only bit of planning that I partook of before this year's roadtrip vacation was to find what had become a sort of legendary dining experience in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.  It all started on our return journey from our first visit to Myrtle Beach SC.

Yes, Indeed. The Florida Keys Lived Up To My Every Expectation. Sit Back, Relax And Let The Warm Gulf Breeze Wash Over You. But You Gotta Find A Place To Sleep Off That Hangover, Right? Status: Siesta Motel - Marathon Key FLA

DSCN9562

While there are a few grand neon motel signs still up and in working condition in the Florida Keys and along the coasts in general, the massive storms they have to endure tend to thin their numbers and as a result you find many more like this.  Still cute and the motel itself...Retro-tastic!

We're Finally Home From Vacation And Boy Was It A Whirlwind Of A Road Trip. We Visited Places We've Been And Explored Places New. Along The Way We Stayed At Some Pretty Neat Joints. Status: The Palms Retro Motel - Atlantic Beach FLA.

DSCN9537

This might have been our favorite crash pad the entire 14 nights we were gone.  It's the Palms Retro Motel in Atlantic Beach, Florida.  I (unlike the Girlfriend) am not one to plan out a vacation adventure very much.  I like to discover great things rather than research and suss things out...that way, when you find a place like this, it's all the more special!

What? You Thought I Was Done With The Motels / Signs? Capri Village - Lake George NY. Still Dreaming Of Vacation. Status: Great Sign / Great View!

DSCN0503

Now don't that just tug at ya? What more could you really want from your vacation digs? It's Right There on that beautiful beautiful lake! We so almost ended up staying here but I'm just so darn cheap.

Don't This Look Like A Mighty Relaxing (And Shadey Yo!) Place To Relax On Your Lake George Vacation? Status: Flower-escent

DSCN0487

We checked out a LOT of Hotels and Motels around the Lake George NY area while we were there.  All were pretty nice.  Some were just more charming than others, like this little joint: the Flower Cottages.

If You Happen To Be Tooling Along Highway 70 Near Pocahontas Il. And Need A FANTASTIC Place To Sleep For A Couple Nights, Look For This Sign! Status: You Gotta Check This Place Out!

DSCN0318

This is right off highway 70 about 40 miles east of downtown St. Louis. We pulled off just to check out the Village Square antique shop and shoot some pictures of this amazing sign. While shooting the sign I decided to ask the Powhatan Motel owner if it might be OK if I took a look at one of the rooms and maybe shoot some photos for the blog. He was more than happy, which took me by surprise...until I saw the room.

The Girlfriend Had A Great Idea: Guess What This Room Cost Us Saturday Night! Status: Late Night Find.

DSCN1038

We were on our way home Saturday night, looking for a place to crash for the night at about 11pm when the Girlfriend spotted this joint.  Even though we've spend most of our Vacation in independent motels I was still dubious.  We asked to see a room and...Oh...Em...Gee.  Es...Oh...El...Dee.  Take a peek inside to...well, see inside!

More Gratuitous Photo Sharing From Our Summer Roadtrip. Neon Signs And Big Ol' Waterfalls. Must Be In Niagara Falls NY! Status: Not What I Pictured.

DSCN0894

So the "Falls" are the Falls...are the Falls.  Quite Impressive, especially since we arrived just at sunset!  We spent about an hour at the Niagara Falls park as soon as we arrived...and then went back to the highway where we got off to find a place for the night.  We had spotted a great neon sign from the offramp and wanted to check it out.
