While The "Cornbread Garage Sale" Might Have Been Less Than A Raging Success, Sunday Was Still Banner Pick Day! Status: Heywood Wakefield Heaven!

DSCN3182

Well, maybe not "Heaven" but I'm certainly a much happier camper after finding this lovely Dogbone / Whalebone Hey / Wake dining set Sunday evening.  I wasn't really bummed after the Cornbread sale but wasn't overjoyed either and this certainly brightened my day.

This Morning We Got Up Stupid Early To Attend The "Cornbread - Worlds Biggest Garage Sale". We Managed To Find A Couple Good Items, But For The Most Part...It Was A Bust. Status: Still...Some Real Treasures!.

DSCN3164

This was our reward for dragging our tired butts up out of bed at 7:20am.  It don't look like much...but alas, some of these smalls are pretty good scores!  We didn't even know when we were buying them!  Can you guess which is the best find?

I KNOW! Chairs! I Gots Plenty. Add Four More Eames / Miller Aluminum Group Task Armchairs To The Lot. What Can I Say, It Makes Me Happy! Status: Overjoyed / Overwhelmed (Gone!).

DSCN3143

I look around craigslist a lot.......A....LOT.  Sometimes, when I've looked at what seems like everything offered by owners...twice, I turn to scanning through that which is offered by dealers.  Dealers include, but are not exclusively, mattress outlets...and tons of 'em.  This is why I normally filter dealers out when I sift through craigslist.  But sometimes turning over those crap covered rocks turns up a little treasure.

Another Chair? Yes, I Admit To Having A Ridiculous Weakness For Fantastic Seating. Fantastic? Why Yes, This Ray Wilkes Chiclet Chair Definitely Is That! Status: Available...X 2..Plus!

DSCN3129

Seating as art.  Personally, few chairs or sofas strike me as such.  Sure, they might be lovely and gorgeous...but art?  Not so much.  The Ray Wilkes / Herman Miller Chiclet line though...a fantastic expression of post modernist creativity.  Art, if you will.  Simple yet striking.

As Promised, Here's The Eames / Miller Swivel Rocking Shell Armchair What Made An Appearance A Few Short Days Ago. Who Doesn't Love A Classic Like This? Status: Timeless

DSCN3120

The black and white shot you might have seen a few days ago here at Mr. Modtomic didn't really do this Mustard Yellow upholstered shell chair justice.  It might not be my favorite color but it sure does pop and is so representative of the 1970s, the era this chair was produced.

This Overman "Pod" Chair Sat Forlorn And Lonely On Craigslist For One Too Many Days. I Just Couldn't Take It Anymore. Another Orange Overman? Yup. Status: Cleanup In Progress.

DSCN3117

I hope to be able to make this available soon, but I'm going to work on cleaning the upholstery first.  It's not bad but could be better.  Since this is a relatively simple shape, I'm thinking that I might just strip it down and toss it in the washer!  Anybody ever tried such a radical move?

Another Warren C. Church / Lane Perception End Table. This One Though, Is Available! It's In Excellent Condtion And Is Headed For The Shop. Status: Langiappes!

DSCN3227

So the story is, I needed the Lane Perception end table behind this one but since there were two available...and they were both in such great condition, I couldn't just leave this one behind!  But...neither do I actually need it.  So it's headed to Fleur De Lis - Home Source in Frenchtown Old St. Charles.

Today I Wanted To Just Play Around With Some Iconic Images That I'm Sure Most Of You Will Recognize. Status: Happy Monday?

orange

And since I was messing around with editing software to stitch together the photos into the image inside, I thought I'd mess around with the one you see above.  Taking these pics was loads of fun.  Lot of work too.

Couple Hooters And A Whale. The Whale Looks Trim And Fit While The Birds Are Both Little Fatties! What Gives? Status: Three Amigos.

DSCN3190

I had to make a trip to Bloomington Il. yesterday to deliver the four extra Kai Kristiansen "Z" dining chairs to a new owner from Chicago so I made the meeting place The Bronze Giraffe antique mall.  This works well on two accounts.  I got there a little late, so the recipient of the chairs got to wait while shopping at the antique mall and after the meeting I got to do a little shopping!

Today We Say Goodbye To What Has Become An Old Friend Here At Mr. Modtomic. You've Seen It In Hundreds Of Photos But It's Time For A Change. Status: Before And After...Bye Bye Brasilia.

DSCN3179

A buddy of mine and the guy who handles my Brasilia refinishing (Dan) has been bugging me all week wanting to get the Broyhill Brasilia side table that I have in our foyer.  Turns out he recently picked up a two piece sectional sofa and has discovered that MY table would fit perfectly between the two pieces!  After seeing the pics he sent me I had to agree.

So I Couldn't Find A "Greetings From" Vancouver BC Postcard But This Looks Pretty Welcoming! Wanna See What Their Craigslist Has To Offer Up For Stylish Bargains? Sure Ya Do! Status: Not My Turf!

Second Beach - Stanley Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Souvenir Folder

I got a a crazy notion to do a "Not My Turf" in London England...only to find that their craigslist, well...not to put too fine a point on it, but...it sucks.  I still wanted to do an across the border search so I picked Vancouver.  They got LOTS of contemporary modern and it takes some sifting to find the vintage modern AND at bargain prices.

New In Box. Don't Ya Just Love That Phrase? These Lovely Libbey Seville Glasses Were Found Saturday At Treasure Aisle. Status: Not Cheap.

DSCN3154

These were just pretty enough to pay retail for.  That means I'm keeping them.  But then, why wouldn't I?  A full set of 8 with all the original packaging.  Sweet find, if not a sweet deal.

Number 1000. Nothing Any More Special About This Post Than That. Just Another Day And Some Cool Second Hand Finds. Status: Check The New(ish) Header?

DSCN3124

You'd think I save something special for a day like today.  I just don't roll that way.  Posting daily means I just don't have time to plan what I post about on say "Fridays".  I would have liked to have had something really cool for today, but this little lot ain't nothing to sneeze at, right?

Brass Lamps! Brass Lamps! What's Up With All The Brass Lamps?!?! I Just Picked Up Another Pair Over The Weekend. Status: Available Soon.

DSCN3112

The seller broke one of the globes just before I picked it up.  Sad.  Not a big deal.  I was thinking about going with white globes anyway, but if I happen to find one smoke clear globe...well, path of least resistance and all that.

While Out Checking The Traps Yesterday I Managed To Snap Up Some Pretty Good Pieces. Plus It Was A Pretty Gorgeous Day For Driving 'Round. Status: Maybe A Big Score.

DSCN3128

I know...more art glass.  But at least I can be assured that this one is hand made.  It has the "scar" on the bottom where it was broken loose after final shaping.  That, it was cheap and it's a really beautiful shape...how could I resist?  Plus I picked up a cool set of Quistgaard style candle holders and some beautiful watercolors by a local / yet widely known artist!

This Again? I Found A Trio Of Lee Reynolds Paintings Today At The Goodwill...And Left Them Behind. They Just Weren't My Style. Almost But No Cigar. Status: So Miami Vice!

IMG_20130413_174355

Yup, I spotted three more mass produced Lee Reynolds paintings at the thrift store this afternoon.  They were all in fantastic condition and are probably still available if anyone is interested.  Also, they were also all true painting, probably acrylic, and not prints.  But alas, they just weren't of any subject matter or style that grabbed me.

A Couple Of Small Items That Have Been Overlooked As Of Late. "Just" An Ashtray And A Large Amber Glass Goblet. Both Are Seriously Beautiful And Both Incorperate Colored Glass. Status: Lost And Found?

DSCN3095

Can you believe that I've had the amber glass footed bowl since the summer Green Shag Market Parking Lot Sale and am only now getting around to featuring it?  At least the ashtray is a bit fresher.  It's only about a week old.

This Wheat Sheaf Hollywood Regency Coffee Table Is So Fresh To The Shop That It's Still Warm From The Oven! We Ain't Even Got A Tag On It Yet. Status: Fresh...And Already Gone!

DSCN3086

This little coffee table is exactly perfect for our family shop: Fleur De Lis - Home Source since it rides the fine line between my Mom's style and my own.  I think the shop is starting to gel!  I'm snatching items that Mom would sell and she's doing the same with what I'd have grabbed up.  It's a plan so crazy...it just might work!

I'm Finally Making A Little Headway On The Selig / Larsen Chair Re-upholstery Job. I Know It's Not perfect But It's Still In Test Fit Phase. Status: Coming Right Along!

DSCN3073

I decided to knock out an hour or so of upholstery work on the Selig / Kofod Larsen pencil leg chair (Sorry! It's actually a Dan Johnson Viscount Chair!) this evening when I got home from work. I figure I've got maybe another hour or two of work on it to be satisfied. It's getting there!

Decided To Take A Virtual Shopping Trip To Seattle WA Today. Looking For Some Bargains Up In The Northwest? Sure Ya Are! Status: Not My Turf!

Greetings from Seattle, Washington - Large Letter Postcard

I've only been to Washington state once.  It was beautiful!  We drove through a Giant Sequoia tree!  Really, if you've never been to the giant redwood forests...go.  Make it your Summer Roadtrip Vacation!  Plus, check out the Seattle C-list while you're up there, 'cuz I found some really good stuff just now.  Click through and take a look!

Guess Who's Sooo In Love With The Kai Kristiansen "Z" Chairs? The Ham. This, Of Course Has Nothing To Do With The Latest Thrift Scores...But He's Just So Cute! Status: Happy Cat.

DSCN3054

He just made himself at home when I was getting ready to shoot pics.  How could I resist?  King Larry (McDuff) was all, "Look at me! Look how cute I'm being!"  Fine.  But then I had to get down to business.  I put some flicker bulbs in the Sputnik.  Wanna check it out?

Monday, April 8, 2013

So Maybe Yesterday's Brass Lamp Wasn't To Your Taste...But I Bet This One Is! Status: Ready For Installation.

DSCN3042

No bulbs but the chandelier is in excellent condition.  I've wanted one of these for years!  This one sat on Craigslist for a few weeks and was right down the street.  I don't know how it wasn't snatched up before I got to it.

Hot Or Not? This Is The Lamp I Picked Up At The Thrift Store Saturday. I Was Hoping To Find Out It Was A Milo Baughman Design Or Something, But Came Up Empty Handed. Status: Whatcha Think?

DSCN3030

I dig it.  I won't buy anything I don't.  That said, I was hoping that I'd find out it's some pricey designer lamp...but I can't even find another like it on the web at all!  Now I'm just kinda wondering what you think about it.

Saturday, April 6, 2013

Sorry About The Crappy Cell Phone Pics. We Were Out At The Thrifts Today Sans Real Camera. Still, Neat Stuff And Thought I'd Share. Status: Left Behind.

IMG_20130326_195955

I'm pretty well "stocked" right now and won't easily part with my cash when in this situation, so I just hunted with the camera (so to speak) today. If you're looking for some good retro stuff cheap, maybe you'll find something here.  But alas, the saddest poodle in the world (no...I get it puppy, just look at that hair!) may be long gone as I actually spotted this before we left for TX.

The Upholstery Has Been Done For Weeks. I'm Just Now Getting Around To Re-assembly. I'm Blaming Weird Work Hours And A Texas Roadtrip. Status: Almost Ready.

DSCN3019

I didn't pick out the fabric.  I would have gone with a solid much like the original, but these ain't mine so it don't even matter.  They look tons better than they did with the soiled fabric that was there.  All I got left to do is put them back together...well, almost all.

On Our Way Home From Texas We Found Exactly ONE Antique Mall That Was Open...On Easter Sunday. At Least It Was A Good One! Status: Fabric Scores!

DSCN3011

Ohhhh...that was a long drive home through Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri with only gas stations and restaurants open.  And SO many antique malls and shops...torture!  Only one kinda small shop was open, but then really, that was enough.

Here's A Few Of The Salt And Pepper Shakers That The Girlfriend Snatched Up On Our Roadtrip Spring Break. She's Really Into Plastics But Threw In Some Variety. Status: Seasoned To Taste.

DSCN2990

I totally missed her snatching all these up.  I knew she was picking up vintage costume jewelry while we were in Canton but I didn't see any of these Salt and Pepper shakers being bought.  She's sneeky!

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

This Is Most Of The Smalls We Picked Up At The Canton TX First Monday Flea Market. The Girlfriend Nabbed A Bag Or Two Of Salt And Pepper Shakers That I'll Share Later But This Is My Loot. Status: Typical Flea Haul.

DSCN2979

Just about everybody we told that we were in the area for the Canton Flea looked at us like we were nuts.  Even some of the comments here on the blog disparaged the Canton First Monday Flea Market.  "Why?" was what everyone seemed to be asking.  Sure, there might be places with more abundant vintage modern offerings, but generally places with better ratios of Wheat to Chaff are gonna cost you more...and I like separating that Wheat and Chaff!

The Roadtrip Is Over And We're Back Home Safely. A Good Time Was Had By Both Of Us In Canton TX. We Even Scored Some Sweet Russel Wright. Status: Phone Post.

DSCN2955

You've no doubt already seen the Russel Wright jug / carafe from a post a few days ago but since I found a few other Russel Wright treasures while in Canton TX I thought it would be fitting to include it again. I didn't pick up a TON of smalls but I'm pretty happy with what I found.

After Three Days Pickin' In The Sticks We Decided To Make A Special Trip To The BIG City And Hang With Some Like Minded Folk. Status: Good Times!

DSCN2927

We were hoping to keep enough time open on our little roadtrip vacation to get a chance to meet Dana of Mid2Mod.blogspot.com and her Son-In-Law who operates the shop Mid2Mod.  It was an easy drive from Canton and, well...three days of walking around all day reeks havoc on a body, so having a few hours of lively conversation was a welcome change!
