Emotional Furniture Diaries: Today The Powers That Be Have Seen Fit To Extradite Me From My Current Servitude To What Appears To Be A Holding Cell. My Hopes For Eventual Freedom Wane. Status: Available.

20150127_131405

As I sit quietly observing from the corner of the living room, I watch as a myriad of others had seemingly talked their way into freedom from the prison that are the four dull pastey white walls of the last...I lose count...has it been Fourty or Fifty years?

Just After Returning From New Orleans I Got A Call From The Owner Of Creve Coeur Antique Mall Asking If I Could Check Out Some Furniture A Friend Of Hers Was Liquidating. This Amazing Teak Server Was Just Part Of The Haul. Status: Available!

DSC_0613

Wow, this is twice in the last Six months or so that I've been asked by a friend to take a look at some furniture that was being let go of.  I've always been wary of these offers, mostly because I'm a big softy and can totally empathize with the seller who just needs to have the stuff gone and turned into cash.  It's hard for me to say "no, sorry...not my style".

Don't It Just Feel So Good When You Finally Check Off A Long Searched For Item That's Been Haunting Your Wanted List? These Donald Deskey Andirons Have Finally Given Our Built In Fireplace The Vintage Modern Touch It Sorely Needed. Status: Mine.

DSC_0586

In the strictest definition andirons are used to hold firewood up off the hearth floor and to prevent the logs from escaping out of the front of the fireplace upon shifting during burning.  While yes, this pair of Donald Deskey designed andirons could do all of that, their purpose is much more in the vein of aesthetics.

Mr. Modtomic Is Pretty Darn Good At A Few Things And One Of Them Is Finding A Bargain...Just About Anywhere. Example: Early Eames Fiberglass Armchair On Lounge Base Found In New Orleans. Status: Adopted

DSC_0576

The Girlfriend, Mom-tomic and I all made our way down to Oak Street in New Orleans to have dinner at Jacques Imo's but once again (third try) found it to be closed.  At least this time it was scheduled to open in about an hour.  In the interim we took the opportunity to troll through some of the nearby shops and that's where this bad boy was found!

On Our First Day Here In New Orleans This Trip We Took A Moment To Stop By MCM Furnishings On Oak Street. It's A Small Joint With A Big Heart In An Upcoming Neighborhood. Status: Perused.

DSC_0536

You just gotta admire the entrepreneurial spirit of folks who have jumped right in and opened up a bricks and mortar...or frame and siding, as the case may be.  Mr. M has always been too cautious to give it a go (but also has it TOO good at Creve Coeur and The Shag!).   MCM Furnishings is a little off the beaten path but worth dropping by.

This Beautiful Trio Of Wheat Sheaf Hollywood Recency Living Room Tables Was An Interesting Craigslist Score. I Was Pretty Sure I Had Lost Out, Yet Here They Are! Status: Available.

DSC_0515

I can safely say that I've never been so pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call from a craigslist seller as I was when I got that call from the seller of these. Usually if an ad has been pulled from the list, that's it. Sorry fella, you done missed out!

Yup, Went Back For The Kagan Sofa Piece And Found It Was Gone...But This Trio Of Bent Glass Nesting End Tables Was Waiting In Its Stead. Status: Clearly Cool / GONE.

DSC_0505

After reading nothing but "Turn your butt around and go get that Kagan sofa"s from you guys, I finally did decide to do so. Alas, it was too late. The sofa was gone. But all was not lost, looky at the purdy nesting end tables I brought home in their place!

Our Good Friend Illuminate Nabbed This Collection Of Blue Heaven Dishes For Me A While Back And I Just Now Got Around To Unpackaging Them. It's An Unussual Set, But That's What You Get When You Shop Second Hand...Right?! Status: Collected.

DSC_0496

Illuminate came by for our annual Nightmare Before Christmas party and brought with her 3 bags from the Goodwill.  I remember her texting me about some Blue Heaven she had spotted at a thrift a while back but had forgotten all about it.  What a strange "set".

I Didn't Bring This Small Vladimir Kagan Microfiber Sofa Home From The Goodwill Saturday, But Obviously I Thought Long And Hard About It. Did I Make A Mistake By Leaving It Behind? Status: Hot Or Not?

20150103_162046

I can't seem to find an exact match for this Kagan New York Collection small sofa or sectional part on the web so I can't really figure out if it's worth messing with or not. Anybody out there in readership land have any idea whether this was worth picking up or was leaving it there a better idea?

Ahoy Matey! Yes It's The Middle Of Winter But It Be Fine Sailing Weather Were Ye Find These Splendid Syroco "Brass" Ships! Status: Available.

DSC_0483

My first instinct was to paint these plastic sailboats by Syroco...well, that's not entirely true. My FIRST instinct was to leave them behind, but I thought better of it and grabbed them up. I thought it might be a good idea to have something really inexpensive in the booth down at the Green Shag Market and I'm sure somebody will appreciate the cut of their jibs...so to speak.

This Weekend We Found A Little Time For Some Goodwill Hunting And Mr. Modtomic Bagged Himself A Splendid Pair Of Matching Hexagon End Tables. Status: Almost Ready.

DSC_0476

I haven't had time (actually, it's just either too cold or rainy out) to give these matching and somewhat intriguing end tables the cleaning they deserve. I may just have to do it in the booth as I did with the last set of Broyhill Sculptra that I had at Creve Coeur. It's not ideal, but it ain't gonna get done in the cold or rain!
