Brutalism And Fancy Fishes! Who Needs Curtis Jere Or Flights Of Birds? The Style Smacks Of William Freidel But The Piece Doesn't Appear To Be Signed. Status: Available.

DSC_0448

When I went out to pick up the pair of Pearsall style chairs I featured last time here on Mr. Modtomic I was lucky enough to find this exceptional vintage modern wall sculpture available as well.  Of course I had to grab it up and now it's available out at Creve Coeur too.

Wednesday Yielded A Plethora Mid Century And Danish Modern Goodies. This Pair Of Danish Style Lounge Chairs Were Part Of That Haul. I Shot A Video Instead Of The Usual 8 To 12 Photo Format. Enjoy! Status: Already Gone.

20140925_123635

Well, OK...I did shoot ONE photo for the blog. Now that I think of it, I should have shot more, you know...for the craigslist ad. Ugh...now I'll have to drag 'em back outside and set up again. It's hard out here for a pimp.

Sorry I've Been Absent The Last Couple Days. Been Busy 'Round Here, But I've Got A Great Pair Of Armchairs To Share With You Today. Just The First Part Of A Nice Midweek Haul. Status: Already Gone.

20140924_115425

A (REALLY) good friend of ours hooked me up with a friend of their's who was paring down their household in preparation for moving to a smaller apartment. Our friend thought I might be interested in some of the items available. Boy were they right!

Hmmm....I Was Really Hoping That This Was A George Nakashima "Minguren" Coffee Table, But There Are A Few Details That Have Cooled My Jets. Still, Either Way It's A Killer Piece. Status: Unknown.

20140830_173406

I saw this table pop up on the Kansas City craigslist a while back and got kinda wound up about it, but it being a three plus hour drive away...that was about it.  A little winding up.  Then it popped up again this morning at just the right time and the die was cast.  I contacted the seller and was on the highway.

Nope, I'm Not Done With The Good Stuff From The 127 Corridor WLYS...But I Am Taking A Quick Break. I Picked Up This Fantastic Set Of Stainless Steel And Leather Chairs Over The Weekend And Have Already Tagged Them Up And Dropped Them Off At CCAM. Status: Available.

20140816_173524

Yesterday was quite a busy day.  Not necessarily work busy...but once we got going it was fairly non stop.  After a brunch at the Girlfriend's Mom's we had to hustle to get over to the Creve Coeur Antique Mall to pull these out, clean them up, photograph them, tag 'em up and find some room for them in the booth.  Then we had to tool home to grab up some lawn chairs to sit in at the Drive In.  Phwew!

One Of The Coolest Items I Found Over The (Way Too Hot) Weekend is This Scavenged Metal Art Crucifix. This Mid Century Modern Style Religious Art Just Seems To Find Me! I Ain't Complainin'! Status: Soon To Be Available.

20140728_124829

St. Louis is actually rife with religious modernism. Just take a drive through any of the myriad subdivisions that sprung up during the economic boom of the 50s and 60s.  You're sure to spot some sort of religious modern architecture. Still, finding modernist art with a religious twist...not so easy.

So No, It's Not A Milo Baughman Chair As Thought Perhaps It Might Be By The Previous Owner. And It's Not A Mies Van Der Rohe Brno Chair Either. It's Kind Of A Mash Up! Status: Available.

20140726_201307

We spotted this chair quite a while back at a local consignment / resale shop in St. Chuck.  I inquired about the price since it didn't have a tag at the time.  They told me it was available on eBay at the time.  I checked eBay and did indeed find it, but not at a price I was going to be interested in paying!

I Don't Know What This Little Covered Bowl Is, But We Found It In A Little Second Hand Shop In Hot Springs South Dakota. What A Pretty Little Town That Is. Status: Mystery Find.

20140707_132300

It was just so Mod looking that I couldn't leave it behind...even though I didn't know what it was or what it was used for!  Plus, there was a little surprise inside.

Phew....I Almost Passed On This Set Of Chairs. Spotted Them Monday, But Had Been To The Gypsy Caravan And Was Kinda Done For The Day. Today, Jeff Pointed Them Out And ID'd Them (edit - Paul McCobb). Status: Snatched.

20140528_175422

Jeff Swift (our former upholstery writer...everybody got "fired" 'cuz nobody was posting) shot me a text this morning asking if I had picked these chairs up over the weekend.  Apparently he has some that need some bits and pieces.  I had seen them but I didn't jump right on them.  I did give them a second glance...and they did stick in my brain....

Realizing That This Living Room Set Of Tables Are From American Of Martinsville Is Plenty Easy, Finding Any Information On Their Line Has Proven Quite Difficult. Matter Of Fact, I Got Nothin'! Status: Available.

20140511_181651

I've looked high and low for another American Of Martinsville table that matches these but alas, have come up empty handed.  I've found some with similar tops, drawers and pulls...but different legs.  Weird.

::Sigh:: In Trying To Identify Various Vintage Modern Pieces I've Often Turned To The Commercial Website First Dibs, Sadly (Mostly For The Buyers Who Thought They Were Buying Something Else) Even The Sellers There Can Mistakenly Attribute A Piece. Status: The More You Know.

FD 1
(photo from 1stdibs)

These chairs recently sold on First Dibs after being attributed to Casala as Casalino chairs designed by Alexander Begge.  Turns out, I don't think they actually are.  This is why doing your due diligence as a buyer is so important, and as a seller is not just good business but ethical.

::Sigh:: I Wish I Had Better Pics For This Post But I Just Ran Out Of Daylight Today. Still, I Wanted To Post About These Great Club Chairs I Picked Up Last Night. They Certainly Are A Stricking Design, Don'tcha Think? Status: Almost Ready.

20140406_193655

You might think these are a cousin to the Selig "Z" Chair I've got.  Maybe the "Y" chair?  Why not?!  These club chairs are both substantial and sleek and are just waiting to add a touch of class to my spaces at The Green Shag AND The Antique Mall of Creve Coeur!

Mr. Modtomic Loves Him Some Ben Seibel...But Are These, In Fact, Ben Seibel? If So What Is Up With The Maison Gourmet On The ID Sticker? Status: Beats Me.

20140216_143725

Another nice little item I picked up at the auction Saturday: a pair of (what are ostensibly) Ben Seibel brass bookends.   After seeing another pair on Hannah's blog years ago I fell hard for the various designs and have always been on the look out for them.  This pair was shown in the preview photos for the vintage modern auction and were on my list to check out when I arrived.

The Other Little Score From Earlier This Week Was This Long Walnut Coffee Table. No Name Or Maker On The Bottom Or Anything Like That Though. Status: Mystery.

DSCN0555

You just can't go wrong with a nice long walnut solid wood coffee table.  This is vintage modern 101.  You can drop this in front of your favorite vintage Danish sofa or a brand new piece from Macy's and it'll add a great deal of style and legitimacy to your joint.

You Know I Don't Really Mess With Fiestaware Too Much. I Certainly Don't Collect It. It's Just Too Hard To Keep In Mind Which Pieces Are New And Which Are Vintage. Still, When I Find It And I've Got The Time To Look It Up... Status: Picked.

20131123_220444

I've got a book on all this stuff in my booth (well, I think it's still in there), but maybe I need to pull it out and keep in my "library" since figuring out whether this stuff is vintage or not is kind of a pain.  I'm like 90% sure this is Very vintage, like 1930's vintage, but since Fiesta kept messing with the marks and all, it's still hard to pin down.

Once Again, I'm At A Loss. Can Anybody Help A Mr. Identify This Fantastic Bentwood Scandivian Lounge Chair? It's Got Westy Dripping From It's Walnut Frame But No Tags Or Marks. Status: Available And Needing A Name.

20131111_155648

I'm pretty sure I just barely beat another potential buyer to the draw on this killer bentwood danish lounge chair Sunday afternoon.  I stopped by the Goodwill near downtown and while giving this a once over another couple seemed to be skulking about behind me like a couple of vultures.

Fall Is Definitely Upon Us! Don't Ya Love The Colors? I Felt Remiss Having Shot This Table Base Yesterday Without Getting Any Pics Of It With A Proper Top. Status: Redeemed.

20131105_124808

We got a short dry spell this morning before I had to head into work so I dragged the new chrome table base outside and pulled this equally heavy (well, almost) table top out of the garage to show how nice a dining table the pair are gonna make. This is gonna be stunning when the top gets refinished!

Today I Picked Up A Great Table Base That I Initially Thought / Hoped Was A Florence Knoll Design...But Alas, Close But No Cigar. Still, It Was Attractive Enough To Bring Home. Status: Gone Topless.

DSCN0330

I spotted this on craigslist last night, but you know how crappy craigslist photos can fool ya...especially when you are really trying to be fooled.  Oh how I wanted this to be a Knoll table base.  The seller insisted that it is a Herman Miller base, but I find this attribution dubious.
