Looking For Some Cheap Style...Waaay Out There In The Desert Southwest? An Anonymous Reader Asked And Mr. Modtomic Delivers. Status: Not My Turf!

Greetings from Tucson, Arizona - Large Letter Postcard

Here we go again on another quest for vintage modern bargains in some far flung city that I (at least) will not be harvesting. With an estimated metropolitan area population of nearly a million people, certainly a few will find this little collection helpful. For the rest of us...read it and weep (maybe not "weep" but at least feel the sensation of envy).

Let's start this party off right. Looks like a Knoll / Eero Saarinen Tulip table don't it? Heck, it might be! It's supposed to be real marble. This is one of those things that you'd be reading about tomorrow right here 'cuz I picked it up after work tonight! Marble Side Table - $60 (Oro Valley -Rancho Vistoso)

Not to be outdone, our second item is a lovely and hard to find Broyhill Brasilia night stand. I once drove to Chicago (from St. Louis - 300 each way!) to procure one of these! This one is bargain priced and I can hardly believe it's been listed at least two times in the last week. Beautiful Broyhill Nightstand 1960's Brasilia Line - $90 (Speedway & Craycroft)

Sorry that picture is sideways. Nothing I can do about it. Tell it to the seller. Then again, don't bother or they might not sell you these lovely Burke "tulip" style chairs at just $40 each. Yeah, you might need to figure out some pads but you're still WAY ahead. 3 Burke Swivel Tulip Chairs - Modern, 60's vintage - $120 (Speedway & Country Club)

It's probably not vintage but it's got style for miles. I'd have it. Most certainly. And real leather? Yes, thank you! How much? You're kidding, right? It's probably already gone. If not: Brown leather sofa - $120 (East)

Looking for a refinish project? Wanna piss off all your Heywood Wakefield purist friends? Have I got a drop leaf dining table for you! Well, I don't have it per-say...but there is a nice Hey / Wake dining table available here that needs a new home and some love. big wooden table - $40 (northwest)

What do you think about this?! I love it. So Hollywood Regency. It's like French and Flowery meats Vintage Modern. It could all be yours for a single Benjamin. Beautiful Pink Princess Chair - $100 (Oro Valley)

I'm pretty sure that this is a Lane end or side table. Looks nice. And it's cheap! Like thrift store cheap. Looks like it could use a little freshening up. Is there a brave soul out there who might save it? Small Table (End Table) - $15 (West University/4th Ave)

It's not Vintage but it's got a great Industrial Modern vibe going on. Maybe for a media stand? Or a great place to display your collection of pottery? Dunno. I'd find a use for it somehow. Metal Workstation - $50 (NW tucson)

The Bradys called...they were wondering where their daybed sectional had gone. Super groovy AND useful. What more could you ask of your vintage mod living room? Mid-Century Bahama Beds (Look at the colors!) - $145 (Shannon and Orange Grove)

And lastly, the absolute Deal...Of...The...Day! Four Wegner style folding lounge chairs and a little stool? All for $75??? Dag, whatever! I'd almost drive to Tucson for that crazy deal! Wicker Patio set - $75 (East )

  1. Oh, that's some great stuff! I want to perch on that princess chair in a maribou trimmed get-up.

  2. I am clearly living in the wrong city! I would have purchased about 4 of those items for my house. It's slim pickins where i live or very over priced! That pink chair is amazing but wouldn't fit in my home.

  3. Oh SNAP! That Brasilia nightstand is right by my Dad's house! Too bad his idea of "antiques" was closer to the colonial style, but since they moved to AZ, it's morphed into Southwest style. Blech.

  4. That leather couch is Ikea, a roommate had one and it was pretty nice. I think they're around 3-400 new.

    1. It's called "Sater", it's $399, and they seem to get one shipment shipment a year and have them until they sell out. IIRC it's 78" long and the leather is treated so it's stain-resistant and easy to wipe clean. One year there was also a version covered in a dark grey woven linen-like fabric for $299.

    2. Oh no...no no no! Please, not IKEA! Oh well, I guess I stand by my statement. I'd still have it. I just never ever tell anybody it's IKEA...and maybe change the legs or something.

  5. The Knoll table would be a definete maybe. The Brasilia nightstand, absolutely! The Burke chairs are a tad too high for me. The sofa...pass. The H/W table is likely too much trouble and has taken a serious beating. I could save...but pass! Not into Hollywood Regency or chrome but that little Lane might easily be saved...and that daybed? Oh Yeah!! The rope chairs would depend on condition, but maybe. Just my two cents...

    1. Hi Rebekah W

So did you manage to grab any of these items? Let us know! You probably don't necessarily lack any c-list search skills...just the OCD I have for looking through ALL the stuff available!
