Oh Lord, Mr. M Has Been Soooo Lazy! I Blame It On The Dog Days Of Summer. I've Had This Coffee Table In The Back Of The Girlfriend's New GTI For A Couple Days But Forgot All About It! Status: Project?

20140718_125420

This lovely little boomerang leg coffee table showed up at the St. Charles Salvation Army last weekend and luckily I made a point of dropping by Saturday (I often forget that they aren't open on Sunday!).  When I spotted it I immediately thought of a project Hannah had just done.

After Loading Up A Craigs-find Sunday I Thought I'd Drop By The Goodwill On Cherokee Street...'Cept It Ain't A Goodwill, It's A Salvation Army. Not Open On Sunday, But Then I Found This Joint: Strange Overtones, Which Was A Bit Of Serendipitous Luck. Status: Gorgeous Goods..

20140202_135428

I kind of accidentally found this place on Cherokee Street Sunday afternoon after failing to realize the thrift store I was hoping to pillage was, in fact...er, not open on Sundays.  Lucky me though, 'cuz this place is freakin' great!  Who needs a Restoration Hardware when you can get an eclectic mix of the Real Thing right down there on one of the most interesting boulevards in St. Louis.

Serendipity Strikes Again...Or - Ain't It Beautiful When A Plan Comes Together?! Lamp And Shade Are Both Thrift Finds, But From Different Stores And At Different Times! Status: Harmony (Gone!)

DSCN0177

Like I've said before, I never pass up a serviceable lampshade at a thrift because you just never know. Then there are lamps. Good ones are becoming more and more scarce, so again...if find a keeper it's coming home with me.

I Got Out This Morning To St. Charles Mo. To Take A Quick Look At A Danish Desk That I Had To Pass On, But That Gave Me An Excuse To Hit The St. Chuck Thrifts! Status: More Smalls!

DSCN0004

Meh, it's not an epic Danish Modern Teak roll top desk...but neither was the Danish Modern Teak roll top desk that I was hoping to pick up (epic...that is).  I really should get up and check them traps more often during the week.  You never know when luck is going to smile upon you!

A New Addition

546681_520923999607_262280481_n

Hey everyone.  This is Nick, fellow St. Louisan, Mid-Century Modern enthusiast, blogger, and friend of Mr. Modtomic.  You may know me better as Nickarmadillo from Mid-Century Midwest.

Mr. Mod approached me several weeks ago about occasionally submitting content to his blog and, now that we've made our arrangements, I thought that I would introduce myself.  So here's a quick intro in Q&A format.

Sorry About The Crappy Cell Phone Pics. We Were Out At The Thrifts Today Sans Real Camera. Still, Neat Stuff And Thought I'd Share. Status: Left Behind.

IMG_20130326_195955

I'm pretty well "stocked" right now and won't easily part with my cash when in this situation, so I just hunted with the camera (so to speak) today. If you're looking for some good retro stuff cheap, maybe you'll find something here.  But alas, the saddest poodle in the world (no...I get it puppy, just look at that hair!) may be long gone as I actually spotted this before we left for TX.

After A Family Meeting At Our New Shop (Fleur De Lis - Home Source In St. Charles) We Stopped At Thrifts And Picked Up A Few Smalls. Status: Some For Me Some For You!

DSCN2407

There wasn't much to be had late in the day at the St. Chuck thrifts but I did manage to grab up a few choice items at the Salvation Army store.  I gotta start getting up earlier.  I have a feeling I'm missing some of the good stuff getting to the shops so late!

I Know Ladies..."Stereos, Whateve". But You Like Music, Right? You're Reading Mr. Modtomic So You Must Love The Vintage Mod. Might As Well Combine The Two And Find Yourself A Nice Hi-Fi! Status: C'mon, Machined Aluminum And Walnut!

DSCN7657

I know, the stereo stuff is - for some reason - a guy thing. ::shrugg:: Dunno why. Any theories? I - as a guy - have given up trying to figure out women a while back...and been happier for it! So tell us...why don't the ladies like the stereos...vintage or otherwise?

We Left The Salvation Army And The Sold Set Of Brasilia Behind Stopping At The Goodwill With A Sour Puss Only To Find... Status: Blam!

DSCN7449

This AMAZING retro lamp helped to ease the pain of missing out on the Brasilia bedroom set yesterday. This is, hands down, the BEST lamp I've ever found at the thrift stores...and I've found plenty!

Somebody Beat The Mr. To It! Somebody Should Be VERY Happy! Just Not Me. Status: Well Ain't That Just A Kick In The Pants.

01

I spotted this set of Broyhill Brasilia from behind and as I came around the corner and recognized the nightstand a surge of adrenaline rushed though my veins!   Then I spotted the "Sold" tags...one after another.  Dang.

Another Compilation Of Chair Posts. It's Stupid How Many Chairs I've "Gone Through"! Status: The Next Ten

DSCN8286

Awe...those of you who are new to Mr. Modtomic's blog may not recognize Kennedy.  He was our kitty for many years (more so in the Girlfriends case as he was around before I was) and we had to let him go to the big catnip field in the sky last year.  It's still a little heart wrenching to see pictures of him unexpectedly.  He was the best cat ever.  But even so, the Girlfriend is chompin' at the bit lately to get another.  So that this chair is up next, with Kennedy posing rather proudly, is kind of a coincidence!

Yesterday's Post Made Me Think About How Many Chairs That Have Made An Appearance Here. Let's Look Back! Status: It's A Lot...And That's Being "Chair"itable.

gone DSCN7446

This chair was not only the first chair to be featured here at Mr. Modtomic...it was the first post EVER!  I'm creating this post as I write so I don't even know how many chairs I have featured and I don't know how many I'll review in this particular post.  Click through to find out how many made it!

Check This Out...On My Way Home From Work Last Night I Spotted This Being Tossed By A Neighbor! Status: Not Trash!

DSCN4739

I mean, c'mon...this Kroehler coffee table is a little rough, but to just throw it away?  That's not cool.  They could have donated it to the Salvation Army thrift store just a short 5 minute drive away!  And they picked a day when it was raining to put it out.  ::Shakes Head::  Luckily it wasn't damaged by the rain.  I think the drink glasses and little kids with crayons took care of That!

Lovin' Me Some Vintage Barware Lately. Can One Ever Have Too Much Barware? Yes. Status: Bursting At The Seams!

DSCN4184

Perhaps I do have more vintage barware than I could ever need...I don't care! I want it all! OK, not all...but lots and lots of the coolest stuff anyway. Luckily I have a large knotty pine bookcase to keep all these amazing pieces in. But it does get crowded.

Since I Was In St. Charles Anyway... You Know, It's Crazy The Good Stuff That The Salvation Army Gets Over There! Status: Yet TWO MORE Fantastic Sofas.

DSCN2468

This was the first one to catch my eye. If you can stand the Hollywood Regency upholstery it's a steal. If you can afford to have it re-upholstered it's a bargain. If you can re-upholster it yourself it's a deal!

Mother Modtomic's Antique Mall Booth @ The St. Charles Antique Mall. Status: Look At All That Prettiness!

DSCN2234

This is a pretty good representation of the Mom's style. She does some re-upholstery work and lots of slip covers. She takes on all sorts of painting projects and makes me feel like I'm so so lazy. I don't know how she does it.
