Does this (one of many in the home!) interior lighting detail give you an idea of what was to be expected at this Estate Auction. Yes, it was a good one. Yes, I attended. Yes, I did actually buy something. Yes, I still Hate auctions.
Thank GOD we have a spare bedroom...and laundry room...and some room in the garage...and under the bed, for all the Extra Barware! One of these days I'll go through all of it and decide what stays and what goes.
This'll be on my ads soon. I'm just to busy right now. Maybe by Sunday I'll have my ads updated. Anyway, did I mention...Cards Win! Cards Win! Oh, right...I did. Also of note, we are having a Halloween Party (no costumes or anything like that) tomorrow night. Inspired by ModFruGal, I've put together a nice little Halloween play list of ghoulish songs for the party.
Mr. Mod ain't no Sports Fan but that was a great series! Great game Texas. For any visiting fans, I hope you enjoyed St. Louis and had fun at the games.
While I was at the Belleville estate sale last weekend I kept passing by this box of dishes without giving it a second glance. I was busy buying up the goodies and then taking pics of the joint. But then I stopped long enough to notice that even though I'm not much into the mustard yellow color there was a little something else about this box-o-dishes that didn't quite add up and maybe I had better take a closer look.
This was an unexpected purchase Saturday afternoon. We had hit a few estate sales already that morning but our friend Illuminate had texted me that we Must come check out the big "mid century" estate auction that she had been at since mid morning. I'm still stinging from the previous Thursday auction so I was hesitant but decided to just stop by to hang out.
I passed through the front door, glanced up the stairs and this is what I spotted. Hmmm...could it be another signed Curtis Jere? I trotted up the stairs to find out. Guess what...
Even the Tag is cool! "Galaxy Designs"! Sparkley Starbursts! Awesome Retro Font. It's got it all. Oh oh...the sofa and chair ain't too shabby either. Check it out.
We decided to catch the Keils estate sale in Belleville Il. first Saturday morning. It was a tough call between this sale and the Accent sale I featured yesterday, but we really did clean up here! We didn't even get up at a ridiculous hour and WEREN'T first in line (5th / 6th actually!).
So you say you'd love the Broyhill Brasilia line if it was a bit more subtle and stained a little lighter to more "go with" your Danish / Scandinavian Vintage Modern sensibilities? Perhaps you should drop everything and head over to this Accent estate sale were a very nice set of Broyhill Forward 70 awaits a new owner. PS, deals are more likely had on Sundays!
I've gone through a lot of great items before the blog came along...seems a shame to leave all those beautiful items nearly forgotten and in the past! Take a looky!
I spotted this fantastic Jere "Birds In Flight" sculptural piece in the pics for a local estate auction. Nearly nothing else at the auction seemed like it related to this piece or it's style and the auction was on a Thursday morning so I was hoping there wouldn't be many other bidders for it. Pphhhh...whatever.
Oh wow...it got cold here in the StL. I done turned on the heat...and that's sayin' something. Wasn't it just like a hundred about three weeks ago? Well...it makes for good snugglin' in front of a roaring fire in the fireplace...and I got just the tool set you might need!
Party Time? Bring it on. I gots all the indispensable smalls! I got your drinks AND snack covered as well as a little Tiki decor to boot. Let the good times begin!
I've been REAL good about NOT bringing home every cool looking Washer and Dryer that I've crossed paths with...so far. I have a feeling that might change soon. I might have to make some room in the garage.
Like I said yesterday, there was a sweet lounge chair at the only estate sale worth checking out this last weekend. It made its way into the back of Frank...but what is that other thing in there? I showed ya all my estate sale scores yesterday and I'm pretty sure That wasn't part of the haul.
Was is worth staying up all night and further messing up my sleep schedule? Yup. It was Not the score of the year such as the Amazing Franciscan Starburst Haul from last year but neither did I submit myself to possible frost bite. No, this was a more civilized stake out for a more subtle prey.
I've been on a streak with these Russel Wright Iroquois nesting salt and pepper shakers lately. Seems that lots of sellers don't know that they are anything special. Looks like I've got four and a half sets of these!
I've figured it out (eureka?)...it's not the irons themselves that I'm collecting but various fine examples of product design. Just look at these. Look at them not as a tool for women to do women's work (not that Mr. Modtomic condones such notions...except to mess with people) but as an example of modern industrial design.
This little lot is the haul from Unique Thrift a couple weekend back. It's kinda rare to find a really good deal on a piece of Frankoma at the thrift store. Even rarer is the opportunity to pick up multiple pieces, all priced nicely and at the same thrift store!
There were lots of sweet vintage modern pieces at that first estate sale Friday morning...and I got mine...but I left lots of stuff behind, cuz Mr. Modtomic ain't greedy...and well, it wasn't exactly the cheapest estate sale I've ever been to. Not crazy expensive but not crazy cheap either. I imagine some other lucky folks cleaned up on Saturday or Sunday!
This was at Friday morning estate sale number 3...no no, wait...let me rephrase that. This was STILL at Friday morning estate sale number 3 when I got there at about 11am! It was even shown in the online preview pics (although, to be perfectly honest I wasn't SURE it was a C. Jere until I had it in my hands).
Yup, even though I'm trying to get back to my normal (a word I'm using loosely since I usually get up about 11am) sleep schedule after working third shift last week, I still got up at the crack of dawn to hit Wentzville! It was a little bit of a disappointment as I didn't find anything AMAZING...well, except this neato lamp.
Like I said yesterday, there were plenty of estate sales to hit Friday morning. I manage to drop in on three. The middle of the three was a bust...for me at least (there were plenty of really cool remote control gliders [sail plane] but I don't really get into that). This was the last of the three that I hit.
I've been on the Midnight Shift all week long meaning that I start work at 9:30pm and get done at 6am so I thought, since I'll already be up I might as well catch a Friday morning sale or three! I already had it all planned out...hit north county first...two quick sales...then over to St. Charles for another with some high end dining stuff, just on the off chance that it's still there and priced within my reach.
I got a pair of these off craigslist about a year or so ago. My first inclination was that one would be a great TV stand. But that never worked out. They are too wide to fit where I have the TV. Oh well, I managed to place one of them in the spare bedroom and use it for it's intended purpose!
There are 8 pieces here but on of the side plates has a sizable chip in the back of it's edge and there is a small chip on the top edge of one of the dinner plates. It's all good though. This set isn't perfect and isn't intended to be just displayed but actually used. I now have a nice 31 piece set of this Franciscan Duet available for immediate delivery!
But first...Thrifts Of Terror!!! I've got just two words for this thing...WTF? This is a seriously messed up looking "toy". I bet somebody out there has some explanation of what this is all about. Care to enlighten and assuage my fears?
The Goodwill down the street here seems to be getting better stuff lately and has been turning over their stock more quickly than the other thrift stores nearby. Of course by "better" stuff I mean more interesting vintage stuff! I'm sure there are lots of shoppers out there who would think I'm nuts. Speaking of nuts...
Have I posted about these before? I feel like I have...but I'm to tired / lazy to go scrounge through the THOUSANDS...well Hundreds...of previous posts to find out. You're welcome. So what IS better than a cool...lounge chair?
