Dang! I Was JUST Down At The Green Shag Last Week And So Much Has Changed! There Are Old Vendors Gone And New Vendors In...Plus Lots Of New Merch For Your Hungry Eyes To Peruse! Status: Waiting For You!
Plus, rumor has it that there'll be a Pop Up sale in the parking lot today (Saturday)! I stopped at The Green Shag Market this afternoon before work to drop off the Chrome Frame Baugman style Lounge Chair and was surprised to find such a shake up in the vendorship in house. Change is a good thing, you should check it out!

I SO Wish The Upholstery Was In Better Condition! I Picked Up This Chrome Frame Baughman-esque Scoop Lounge Chair Today Via Criagslist And Should Have It Displayed Soon At The Shag. Status: Available.
I so wish I had the wear-with-all to pull this apart and re-upholster this beauty myself...but I know my limitations. Not that I think it'd be all that hard, it's just the time that it'd take to...well let's face it, let it sit in the garage half done.

Phew....I Almost Passed On This Set Of Chairs. Spotted Them Monday, But Had Been To The Gypsy Caravan And Was Kinda Done For The Day. Today, Jeff Pointed Them Out And ID'd Them (edit - Paul McCobb). Status: Snatched.
Jeff Swift (our former upholstery writer...everybody got "fired" 'cuz nobody was posting) shot me a text this morning asking if I had picked these chairs up over the weekend. Apparently he has some that need some bits and pieces. I had seen them but I didn't jump right on them. I did give them a second glance...and they did stick in my brain....

So What Does $25 (Plus Admission - $10 each) Buy A Vintage Modern Scavenger At The Gypsy Caravan? With Careful Selection...Quite A Bit! Status: Parking Nightmare...Apparently.
Upon checking out Twitter hashtag "GypsyCaravan" last evening I found that MANY attendees of said flea market had a myriad of issues with parking. We had no troubles parking at all but we arrived about Ten minutes after Nine AM. It was getting back out at about One PM that gave us troubles.

Just After Dropping Off The Other Car We Traded In (Tinkerbell - The Volvo Wagon) At The Dealership, We Took The New Bunny Straight To A Thrift Store To Calm Our Nerves, Where I Found This Neato Vintage Childs Telescope! Status: Far Seeing.
I was surprised to find that this little telescope kit actually worked when I assembled it for the photos! It was daylight out so I couldn't see how it works on the Moon or anything, but I was able to see down the street pretty well.

I Just Dropped Off This Fantastic KEM Weber Style Lounge Chair At The Booth In Creve Coeur After Spending The Afternoon Cleaning It Up All Pretty. It's Amazing How Well Vintage Chrome Cleans Up. Status: Available.
I picked this lovely KEM Weber style chrome and vinyl lounge chair by Royal Metal a few days ago from a seller who had thought they were gonna "get in the game" so to speak...but then they had off spring instead. Kids'll do that. Their gain...is my gain!

Is It Really The Little Things That Count? These Little Things Do! This Lot Came From Last Sunday's Belleville Flea Market Journey. It's Not Much...But, Well...It's The Little Things That Count! Status: Scavenged.
We love the Orange Sherbert looking "Oven Proof" stuff 'round here, so that's going nowhere...but the vintage modern stylized crucifix will be tagged up soon and available. They never last long at the antique mall.

We Spotted This Blocky Red Coffee Table Out In "The Barn" At The Belleville Flea And At First Just Barely Gave It A Second Glance...But It Stuck With Me And Eventually I Had To Circle Back. Status: Surprise.
I've got so many sofas and chairs available at the moment that I just about can't pass up any interesting coffee table that crosses a Mr.'s path. So yeah, I went back for this one. My brain just kept saying "C'mon dude! It's so Pop Art!"

No No...It's Not Vintage, But This Gus Modern "Jane" Sofa And Chair Set Do, In Fact, Sport The Vintage Modern Aesthetic That We All Admire And (Dare I Say?)...Lust For. Status: @ The Shag!
You might recognize Gus Modern from Dana's blog and shop: Mid2Mod. I've only ever found (and sadly didn't jump on quickly enough...no really, I dragged my d@mn feet on those) one other set of of Gus Modern chairs on my local C-list. There just isn't a large Gus Modern population here in the Mid-west I guess. But, I gots a beautiful set to offer now!

One Of The Gems That We Brought Home From The Belleville Flea Was This Lovely Little Bohemian / Vintage Modern Side Table. I've seen Oval Spider Leg Tables...And Round Gate Leg Tables But This Is The First Small Oval Gate Leg Like This I've Seen. Status: Available.
Saturday's Belleville Flea was an epically beautiful day if the take itself perhaps wasn't. Oh, it was a good take, but the weather was amazing! Ya gotta appreciate these remarkable days of Spring because they won't be around long!

Thanks To Jennifer Kestler (One Of Mr. Modtomics Intrepid Readership And Commenters) We Can All Rest A Little Bit Easier Knowing That We CAN In Fact Convert Standard Shades To Clip On Shades For our Vintage "Bowless" Lamps! Check 'Em Out! Status: Investigated.
A few days ago I featured a couple of new lamp shades that I picked up at the Goodwill hoping to be able to use them on a pair of vintage lamps that I had picked up quite a while back. When I got home with the shades I realized my error. The lamps required clip on shades...the shades were not clip on. Enter reader comments and Mr. Modtomic reader Jennifer Kestler.

The Girlfriend And I Hit The Belleville Flea This Morning And On The Way Home We Just HAD To Stop At The Fairview Heights Savers. I Found A Little Set Of Roseville / Raymor Serving Pieces And Thought I'd Hit The Jackpot! Status: Left Behind.
Everybody knows I've got the hots for some Ben Seibel designs. When I spotted these loose pieces sitting on the shelf there at Savers my lil heart went a pitter patter! You know what I mean. Alas, all was not what it seemed.

I Been Tryin' Real Hard To Get A Load Of Smalls Out To Creve Coeur So I Gathered Up A Couple Boxes Full And Dropped Those AND The Grete Jalk Sofa In Booth 307. Took A Quick Look 'Round And Spotted Some Good Stuff In Some Other Booths Too. Status: Available.
I literally looked around for 30 seconds and stumbled across Three really cool items at The Antique Mall of Creve Coeur. I was in a rush to get to work so I didn't have time to scour the entire mall, so there may be even more / better finds out there. Thing is, if you like what you see...you better hurry!

THIS Is A Pretty Cool Item. I Picked It Up Last Friday Morning At The Estate Sale Where I Snagged The Grete Jalk Sofa. What Is It? It's A Danish Modern Shoe Cabinet! Not Something You're Gonna Run Across Every Day. Status: Available!
I had no idea that such an item even existed. Who needs what looks like a chest of drawers...for their SHOES?! Well, I certainly don't...but now that I know that there is such a thing, well...of course! I can see why this would be a desirable item.

Another Crazy Eclectic Batch Of Smalls. Some Are Keepers, Some Are For The Booth And Some Were Going To Complete Another Find...But, Well...Fail. Status: Smalls-ville.
Some of this lot came from the thrift store while the rest was found at an estate sale last weekend. To keep those shelves full you gotta keep a-hustlin' and Mr. M finds nothing more fun than hustlin' up some smalls!

Realizing That This Living Room Set Of Tables Are From American Of Martinsville Is Plenty Easy, Finding Any Information On Their Line Has Proven Quite Difficult. Matter Of Fact, I Got Nothin'! Status: Available.
I've looked high and low for another American Of Martinsville table that matches these but alas, have come up empty handed. I've found some with similar tops, drawers and pulls...but different legs. Weird.

So If You Checked Out Yesterday's Post You Know The Mr. And The Girlfriend Hit The Wentzville Flea Sunday. It Was Sparse So We Hit Another Flea We Haven't Hit In Quite A While: The Union Flea. Status: The Booty!
The combination of questionable weather and Mother's Day may have been the cause of so many empty vendor spaces at Wentzville this weekend but I still made out like a bandit...and then, since we were done so early, we decided to venture about another 30+ miles south west to the Union Flea. More scores were to be had.

Mr. M Was Just Too Tired Last Evening To Get A Post Up But Since We Was Gettin' Up Early For Wentzville Anyway I Figured I Would Just Show Ya This Fancy "Glass Chip Art" Now. Status: Mobile Posting.
Yup, posting from the phone on our way to the Wentzville Flea Market! Ain't technology grand? Any-who...We drove to Belleville yesterday to pick up a craigslist buy and while there spotted this fantastic piece of high end (?) Chippy Art. Was that available too? Yup! I'll take that too, thanks!

While Loading Up Another Estate Sale Attendee Asked "What Makes It So Valuable?" Good Question. I Would Have Liked ToThrow Around The Manufacturer's Name, France And Sons...Or Perhaps The Designer, Grete Jalk. The Truth Is...The Answer Is Simply Supply And Demand. Status: Rare Indeed.
Mr. M dragged his tired bones up out of bed Friday morning after only a couple short hours of sleep to attend an estate sale chock full of fantastic vintage Danish modern pieces. I harbored a tiny bit of hope that I'd skip through the house nabbing tag after ridiculously under priced tag off lovely Scandinavian pieces...but it just wasn't meant to be.

It Is Officialy Flea Market Season Here In The Midwest And The Pickin' Juices Are Fully Flowin'! I've Only Made It To The Wentzville And Belleville Fleas Once Each Thus Far But I'm Already Suffering From The Proverbial Itch. The Dream? Brimfield. Gonna Make It This Year? Nope. Status: Vicarious Visit.
Scheduling. It all comes down to scheduling. We might have made it to Brimfield this year for the big Summer antique show and sale but the Girlfriend has a conference for work that starts like the last day of the show...and did I mention it's on the OTHER coast? Maybe next year. Until then, I'll just have to be satisfied with our own, much cheaper (and smaller) fleas...oh, and some videos I've found around the web! Click through to check out the first in a series. It's quite amazing!

A Couple More Interesting Thrift And Estate Sale Smalls That I've Picked Up Recently. Another Copco Pan And A Few Pieces Of Dorothy Thorpe Silver Rim Snack Service. Status: Needin' Some Cleanup.
I seem to have a weakness for Michael Lax as well as Dorothy Thorpe lately. Or maybe it's just shiny stuff, I don't know. These are just a couple of the smalls I've gathered over the last couple days.

I Stopped By A Couple Of The New Neighborhood(ish) Traps Today Before Heading In To Work And Snagged This Beautiful Asian Junk Oil Painting. Had To Shoot It In The Back Of Frank, But I Got It Done. Status: Available.
This oil painting of an Asian Junk on a waterway isn't perhaps as old as many of the paintings and prints that I've picked up over the years, but it's definitely got the Mid Century vibe, and that's what's important when it's hanging on your wall...right?

You May Recall The Drexel Projection Dresser I Featured A Few Days Ago...Aaannnnd You May Just Recall The Previous Post I Did On This Drexel Projection Blanket Chest A Few Years Ago, But Since I Was In The Process Of Cleaning Up The Dresser I Thought I'd Give This A Little Love Too. Status: Also Available At CCAM.
While still far from perfect, giving this Drexel blanket chest a nice rub down with Howards certainly did it a lot of good. There are some imperfections on the left side that nothing short of a full refinish will help with, but it presents well now. At least a lot better than it did! And now it is awaiting a new home along with the Drexel dresser in my booth at the Antique Mall of Creve Coeur.

The Girlfriend And I Spent The Afternoon Out At Spirit Of St. Louis Airport Attending The St. Louis County Fair And Air Show. I Didn't Really Plan On Doing A Blog Post On Anything There But This Beechcraft Model 18 Was Just Too Pretty To Ignore! Status: Polished Deco Dreamliner.
Yes, Mr. Modtomic is still a little boy at heart. I likes me some big powerful airplanes just like any other man on the planet! There were plenty of interesting flying machines on hand at the County Air Show today, but this vintage Model 18 Beechcraft was the only one that made me pull out the camera phone and snap some pics.

Yes! More Broyhill Brasilia! This Small China Cabinet Is Already Gracing My Booth At The Green Shag Market. I Recently Moved Some Large Pieces And Was Lucky Enough To Find This To Take Up The Slack. Status: Come-N-Gettit!
This is one of my favorite Brasilia pieces. It's ratio of "Brasilia-ness" to utility is higher than most with those big full sculptural swoops on the lower doors, only bettered IMHO by the Tall Chest. Now THAT beast has some serious "Brasilia-ness"!

Usually It's The Weekend When All The Good Scores Go Down But Thursday And Friday Were Pretty Darn Great This Week Too. Thursday Provided Mr. M With This Beautiful Drexel Projection Dresser. Status: In The Booth @ Creve Coeur Antique Mall!
What was with the names of all the contemporary furniture lines in the '50s and '60s? Perception, Perspecta, Planner, Perimeter, Predictor... Well, this one is Projection by Drexel. You'd think the marketing geniuses would want their name to Stand Out From as apposed to Being Confused With.

A Couple Weeks Ago The Girlfriend And I Spotted A New Thrift Not Too Far From The Crib But We Were Test Driving A Car At The Time. Last Weekend We Stopped In And Checked Out A Couple More In That 'Hood Scoring This Mod Pharmacy Style Floor Lamp. Status: New Traps
We stopped the new thrift we had spotted while test driving a new car a few weeks back and I almost bought a pair of Umanoff bar stools, but alas...there was another fella checkin' 'em out and I decided to let him have first dibs. They needed a little help and I didn't need them badly. It was the second second hand shop where I found this!

Well, This Is The Last Of The Drexel Declaration Saturday Morning Estate Sale Booty. This Is Just A Simple Clean Walnut End Table By Kipp Stewart. It's Already In The Booth (#5) At The Green Shag Market. Status: Cleaned Up And Ready To Go!
There was so much more Drexel to be had at that sale but I just didn't take enough dough with me to snatch it all. I had to leave behind a lovely Declaration dining table and I think either 4 or 6 chairs. There was also a buffet and china cabinet, but they had some unusual hardware on them and I wasn't really sure that they too were Declaration.
