I Don't Really Hunt For Vintage BMX, But When I Find A Good Bike It's Hard To Resist. The Wentzville Flea Offered Up This Jem Of A Late '70s Schwinn Mag Scrambler And The Cash Was Exchanged. Status: Available.
What was it when YOU were 8 years old? For Mr. Modtomic it was the equipment surrounding the budding sport of BMX just up the street from my home being sold at Maplewood Bicycle. Could I somehow manage to procure one of these machines at a suggested retail price of $119.95 in 1978? No way. It only took 36 years, but I finally fulfilled that 8 year old's starry eyed dream.

More Beautiful Kipp Stewart Designed Drexel Declaration. Another Piece Brought Home From This Past Saturday's Estate Sale Visit. Status: Available At The Shag.
Yes Siree! I've currently got plenty of fantastic Drexel Declaration looking for a new home in Booth 5 Green Shag Market. It's nice that these pieces were in such amazingly good shape that all I had to do was knock off the dust, shoot some pics and deliver them to The Shag!

Ah, The Elusive Cherry Red Weber Kettle Bar-B-Que. I Found Another Beautiful Vintage Pit Over The Weekend But It's A Mess. Status: Ready For The Season!
I didn't have time thoroughly clean this up before shooting the pics, but I didn't know when I'd have time to finish the job so I went ahead and did the deed. Believe me, it looks A LOT better now than it did before I cleaned what I did!

Drexel, DREXEL, DREXEL! Mr. Modtomic Somehow Managed To Get Pretty Lucky At An Offhand Estate Sale Visit This Morning. 20 Minutes After Opening And I Still Pretty Much Had The Pick Of Any Of The Good Stuff! Status: I DO Declare.
The joint was loaded with Drexel Declaration and after arriving a mere 10 minutes before opening and receiving the much coveted #62 line ticket I found that everything I might have wanted (less the Declaration coffee table / bench) was still available to be had. What the WHAT?!

Ahhhh...It's Finally The Weekend! You Have A Long One Too? Of Course, Just 'Cuz It's The Weekend Don't Mean Mr. M Gets To Rest. I Gots To Clean Up This Copco Lidded Pot And Get It And A Load Of Other Stuff To The Booths. Status: Never Ends.
Apparently a couple of large items left the booth at The Green Shag Market late last week. I shoulda gotten in there today but, well...you know how it is. Up 'til 3am doing bloggy stuff makes it tough to drop by before work.

HA! I Only Got To Utilize One Of The Three Recently Found Loose Buffet Lids But I Did Procure A Pair Of 8 1/2" Corning Ware Skillets To Add To The Collection. Status: Tossed On The Pile!
This new pair of skillet pans aren't actually labeled Buffet Server, but they are Corning Ware and share the same clean design, and the handles and lids fit just the same.

The Girlfriend Is Much More Into String Art Like This Than I, But This Large Piece Struck Me. It's Not A Common Subject Or Style. It's The '70s Fiber Art Aesthetic That Gets Me. Status: Getting Tagged.
This is a pretty rad piece of burlap if I do say so myself. Someone took a lot of time and effort to sew all these threads into it. Too bad they didn't put a signature on it.

I Stopped At A Thrift Store Before Work Monday And Spotted This Glossy Yellow And Black Ashtray. Upon Flipping It Over (You ALWAYS Flip 'Em Over!) I Found It To Be A Raymor / Mercer Product! Status: Score!
Beyond being a Raymor product (they of the Arthur Umanoff product fame) this is just a seriously beautiful piece of pottery. It had me at that glossy Yellow and Black glaze and asymmetric design.

While Not Quite A "Fail", Buying This Super Mod Chrome Table Lamp Maybe Wasn't Mr. Modtomic's Greatest Score. It's...Well, It's Got Some Issues...And I Didn't Really Check It Out Before Throwing Down The Cash. Status: Still, A Pretty Cool Lamp!
I spotted this Sonneman style table lamp on craigslist and instantly fell for it. I shot off the ubiquitous e-mail and made the necessary arrangements with the seller. Luckily he also had some great chairs that sweetened the deal. But in the utter ebullience of the moment I failed to give the lamp the necessary attention that I should have.

What On Earth Do You Plan On Doing With THAT...Is What Keeps Running Through My Head. This Is One Of The Longest Production Herman Miller / Eames Segment Table Bases And I Don't Have A Top For It. But, That Leaves Me With A Number Of Possibilities! Status: Brainstorming.
Not too many people have the kind of dining space that can accommodate a table that would sport a 76" base. The top that would have come with this from Herman Miller would have been either 94 1/2" or 107 3/4". That would be a nearly 8 or 9 ft. table. The good news is that this base is modular...and modifiable.

Anybody Interested In Giving A Fellow Collector / Entrepreneur A Leg Up Via Kickstarter? Mr. Christo Is Hoping To Provide Budding Collectors With A Pocket Field Guide If Only He Can Meet His Investment Goal. Status: On His Way!
A few days ago I received an intriguing request via Twitter. Christo (of Modwagen) asked if I might be interested in promoting his Kickstarter program here. After hearing him out and realizing it was a worthy endeavor, I decided to do what I could. Now it's up to you!

Hey Look! They're Almost Twinzies! Yup, I Found A Second Kromex Tidbit Server At That Last Estate Sale We Hit. The Original Is Still Going Nowhere, But This New One...It's Getting Tagged Up For The Shag! Status: Available.
They're the same...but different. Both are Kromex but check out the platters. Kinda funky, that. Anyway, the one in back is sticking around the house, but the one up front is headed out to the booth.

::Sigh:: In Trying To Identify Various Vintage Modern Pieces I've Often Turned To The Commercial Website First Dibs, Sadly (Mostly For The Buyers Who Thought They Were Buying Something Else) Even The Sellers There Can Mistakenly Attribute A Piece. Status: The More You Know.
(photo from 1stdibs)
These chairs recently sold on First Dibs after being attributed to Casala as Casalino chairs designed by Alexander Begge. Turns out, I don't think they actually are. This is why doing your due diligence as a buyer is so important, and as a seller is not just good business but ethical.

Our Good Friend Hannah, From "Second Hand" Has Recently Expanded Her Claim At The Green Shag Market Giving Her The Room To Properly Spread Out. Status: Must Be Doing Something Right!
The Shag recently lost M Is For Modern but the new tenant is picking up a little of the slack left behind and Hannah has expanded her territory, so all is good in the land of Green Shag. You'll never want for Vintage Modern goodness in this joint.

I Found A Couple Of Unusual Mushroom Style Executive Desk Lamps Over The Weekend. These Things Are Stainless Steel And Weigh A Ton. I Was Certainly Happy The Thrift Store Wasn't Charging By The Pound! Status: Soon To Be Available.
I don't know what to make of this pair of desk lamps. They obviously were an expensive set when new. They've both got heavy duty wiring, a phone extension and jack and a pair of three prong outlets as well as the lighting itself. And did I mention they are Stainless Steel?!

Today, Just On A Whim, The Girlfriend And I Hit An Estate Sale Just Up The Street From Home. There Were A Few Cool Items Left For Us To Forage Even Though It Was The Crack Of One. Sometimes You Don't Need To Be The Early Bird! Status: Gettin' Tagged For The Booth.
I've got a matching snack bowl in this atomic pattern around here somewhere...pretty sure, and I can't seem to find a blog post on it either...and I'm sure I've done one. That's kind of frustrating since I'd love to leave you a link to said post. Grrrr.

Welcome! C'mon in...have a look around. I've been busy trying to keep up with the outflow, so there's lots of new stuff in here. Plus, it's been a while since I've done a "tour" thing for booth 307.

Oh How I Hate Waiting. Just Ask The Girlfriend. Restaurant With A Wait List? C-Ya. Line At The Grocery Store...Hmmph. Mostly It's This Instant Gratification World, But Sometimes It's Just Apprehension. A "Will It Be There When I Have Time To Pick It Up?" Kinda Worry. Status: No Worries...This Time!
This Fabulous Knoll Bastiano sofa and love seat were made available at about midnight the evening before last. I shot off a note to the seller a couple hours after it was posted with little hope of actually scoring the set, but then...the next morning I got the call.

It's Freakin' Amazing How Much Cool Stuff TFA Has Packed Into Thier South Side Shop Right Now. Just Hanging Out In This Shop Gives Me Both A Shiver Of Excitement As Well As A Bit Of A Head Ache. Status: Overwhelming!
When I stopped by The Future Antiques about a week ago I took a bunch of pics. I featured a number of them last week concerning the large number of Broyhill pieces, but I took more pics than that!

::Shrug:: I Don't Know....I Just Couldn't Leave It Behind! Is It A Paper Weight? Trench Art? A Vintage Toy? Maybe A Workshop Project? I Just Don't Know, But This Little WWI Tank Really Got Me. Status: Cute?
Can "cute" be used to describe a little toy tank? These things were the terror of World War One! But c'mon...look at this little guy. He ain't trying to hurt nobody! I found him at the Goodwill and just had to bring him home.

Need A Little Light Shed On Your Desk Or Work Area? Wouldn't You Just Love To Have This Vintage Extension Lamp Reaching Out To Brighten Up Your Day? Status: Headed To The Shag.
This vintage industrial work lamp was another score from out of town. I picked it up from the same antique mall where I found the Arthur Umanoff wine cart. That was BIG mall. The only other thing I found there was a baggy of slides that I have yet to go through. Soon enough.

::Sigh:: I Wish I Had Better Pics For This Post But I Just Ran Out Of Daylight Today. Still, I Wanted To Post About These Great Club Chairs I Picked Up Last Night. They Certainly Are A Stricking Design, Don'tcha Think? Status: Almost Ready.
You might think these are a cousin to the Selig "Z" Chair I've got. Maybe the "Y" chair? Why not?! These club chairs are both substantial and sleek and are just waiting to add a touch of class to my spaces at The Green Shag AND The Antique Mall of Creve Coeur!

I Don't Get Out To The Other Shops Around Town Often Enough. I Stopped In At The Future Antiques A Few Days Ago And Was Surprised By All The Beautiful Broyhill. Status: Amazed!
Everybody here knows that Brasilia is Mr. Modtomic's favorite Broyhill Premier line...but TFA only had one piece in house at the time I was there. They certainly didn't lack for other lines to make up for it! Sculptra, Saga and even a couple of pieces of Forward 70 were well represented.

I Made A Trip To The South Side Of St. Louis To Look At A Lane Perception Dresser That Turned Out To Be A Fail, But Got To Stop By TFA...And Actually Bought Something! Status: Project Time!
Yeeeup, I'm makin' another Cypress top table! I picked up a great little (weirdly little) table at The Future Antiques retro shop that has a neat top and a fantastic base. But the top and base don't really go scale wise...right? So a new top is in order. Just so happens....

Yesterday I Was A Little Late In Getting My Post Up...Sorry, I Was Wiped Out When I Got Home From Work. Right After Getting That Post Up I Jumped In The Car And Drove Through Some Mad Rain Storms To Pick Up These Beauties! Status: Available.
I only had time to photograph one of these chair but I picked up Three. They've been recently re-upholstered but they've also been painted. Brown. Too bad that, but if they don't move quick I might bring 'em home, sand 'em down and shoot them with Satin Black.

As found at the Heartland Antique Mall near Lebanon Missouri. What a strange place to find vintage modern...but the good news is that it's a strange place to find vintage modern (ahem...it was cheap...cough).

I don't have a table set up with these in the booth (307) yet but I just had to go ahead and drop them off. You see, FOUR big items left my space over the weekend and I had something of a void to fill!
