Some More Smalls To Keep Them Shelves Filled. Seems Like Most Of The Work Of Keeping A Booth In An Antique Mall Is Collecting, Tagging And Transporting The Smalls! Status: Gotta Do What I Gotta Do.
Yup, those shelves ain't gonna stock themselves! And lots of times, it's these small items that pulls your butt out of the "didn't make rent" fire. So, even thought it's such drudgery (it's so not!) I still gotta get it done.

So Not Last Weekend, But The Weekend Before, I Was On A Whirlwind Of Estate Sales, Picking Ups And Dropping Offs And Then The Relative Calm Of The Auction. At One Of The Two Estate Sales I Grabbed Up This Lot Of Dorothy Thorpe Entertainment Pieces. Status: To Be Available.
Yeah, it was quite a day. I only got a few hours sleep after work and before jumping up outa bed to get a line number for the first estate sale, then rush over to another sale a few miles away to get a line number for that one too!

Ya Gotta Know I'm A Big Fan Of Sascha Brastoff. I've Got Many Of His Remarkably Decorated Ashtrays And I Picked Up Another Recently. Status: Collected.
This, like a lot of the items I've been showing off lately, was another of the pieces I snatched up at the recent Vintage Modern auction across the river. I didn't really go for the smalls but, alas...I just couldn't resist this little Brastoff "Pod" ashtray. Weird, right...I don't even smoke.

After Yesterday's Distinct Lack Of Color I Thought I'd Hit Ya With A Big Ol' POP Of Pigment Today! This Vintage Pull Down Three Way Kitchen / Dining Table Light Was Picked Up At The Auction About A Week Ago. It's Headed To The Shag Soon. Status: Quite Purdy.
I almost bowed out of the bidding on this but stepped back in at the last moment and hit pay dirt. You'd usually read about my litany of complaints after an auction but I guess that because there was so much available at this particular one, there was almost no way I wasn't going to be able to come home with something!

I Spent My Saturday Evening Power Cleaning These Black And Stainless Steel "BRNO" Chairs With My New (To Me!) Bissel Little Green Pro Heat Machine And This Afternoon Dropping Off Them And An Eames Segment Base Table At My Booth In The Creve Coeur Antique Mall. Status: Available!
How monochromatic is that? Nothing but silver, black and grey. Well, it ain't like it's a set. Each piece can be had separately and mixed / matched with some of the other chairs / tables I have, you might find elsewhere in the mall or maybe you have at home.

You Might Remember This Joint As MoModerne, These Days It's MoModerne's Second Shop - Junk Junkie. This Might Be The Place To Look If You're Looking For Style And Aren't To Concerned With Names. You'll Definitely Keep Your Wallet A Little Fatter And If You Look Often Enough You Might Stumble Upon A Great Bargain. Status: Waiting For You To Stop By.
This afternoon the Girlfriend and I headed back down to the South Side to pick up a big piece for the house. Since we were in the area anyway, and partly because I hadn't been in since they opened under the new moniker...I decided to take a moment to check out Junk Junkie. Wanna take a look inside?

Ok Ok! Yes, I Did Happen To Pick Up A Second PIece Of Broyhill Brasilia At The Auction Last Weekend. I've Always Wanted A Brasilia Server Like This, Even Though I Have Absolutely No Place...Or Really Use For One. Well, I've Got A Litle Time To Decide If It's A Keeper, Off It Goes To Dan To Get Freshened Up...Then We'll Decide. Status: Wanting For Some Love.
Yes indeed, Mr. M does indeed have a certain weakness for Broyhill Brasilia. I've had an opportunity to pick up one of these drop leaf servers here and there, but it just didn't ever work out. When the bidding at the auction stopped and the auctioneer was still pointing at me...well, I guess my time had finally come!

The Electricity Here At Home Is Out Due Apparently To A Little Wind So I'm Stuck Posting From My Crap Samsung Galaxy S III. This Thing Freezes Up All The Time Since The Latest System "Upgrade", But I Gotta Get My Post Out For My Peeps! This One's About Some Lights. Status: Finally!!!
First of all, let me just say...Samsung has REALLY dropped the ball where its phones are concerned. My phone "upgraded" its operating system about a month ago (didn't bother asking me permission) and the thing has been nothing but a pain in the @ss ever since. I took it back to Sprint who could do no more than reset it to factory specs (which for me included little more than erasing my pics, contacts and links) to no avail. The op sys is bad and Samsung has done nothing for weeks to fix it. I HIGHLY recommend never buying Samsung products since this is how they treat their customers. But anyway, got some new lights! Wanna check 'em out?

Flips And Faces...Mr. Modtomic Has Done Gone Clock Crazy! Timing Is Everything And I Just Happened To Be At The Right Thrift Store At The Right Time! Status: Gettin' Tagged.
It was so strange finding Four brand new never used (one New In Box) clocks in one shot at the thrift store. There were actually a few more clocks but they weren't really my style and were left behind.

See That? That's What Rosewood Looks Like! ::Sigh:: Ain't It Just Beautiful? It Just Reeks Of Luxury. It's Not Easy To Come By These Days. That's Why It's Expensive And Much Sought After. You Might Still Find Some Down At Rocket Century If You Hurry! Status: Where To Shop.
Rocket Century isn't that new 'round here anymore. They've been around for years and have had the shop open on Grand for quite a while now, but the shop's mode of operation has changed recently and it makes for varied mix of styles and items. If you've not been in the last month, a visit is in order!

Ok, So This Has Nothing To Do With Vintage Modern, But It Does Have Plenty To Do With The Mr. Modtomic Blog! Today I Splurged On A New Laptop...Of Sorts. It's a Dell Convertible, And I've Been Waiting On This For Years! Status: Flip Flop.
Flip flop is right, I "waffled" on buying one of these for about the last Three or Four years! Technology finally caught up to my wants and desires, a random junk mail ad from a local electronics store found its way into my span of attention and my hesitation was done for.

Mr. Modtomic Loves Him Some Ben Seibel...But Are These, In Fact, Ben Seibel? If So What Is Up With The Maison Gourmet On The ID Sticker? Status: Beats Me.
Another nice little item I picked up at the auction Saturday: a pair of (what are ostensibly) Ben Seibel brass bookends. After seeing another pair on Hannah's blog years ago I fell hard for the various designs and have always been on the look out for them. This pair was shown in the preview photos for the vintage modern auction and were on my list to check out when I arrived.

Wow, Is Mr. Modtomic Living An Episode Of The Twilight Zone? The Estate Sales AND Auctions Were Good To A Mr. Today! So Strange. Anyway, Can You Guess What This Is? Status: Auction Booty!
Heh, yeah...I was watching a movie on Netflix the other night called Grabbers about these blood sucking alien sea-monsters that attack this Irish sea side town...but are allergic to alcohol. Of all the places for such an alien sea-monster to land. Anyway, the protagonist asks his side kick this question: "Do you know what this is?" (see above pic).

Ain't been by The Shag in a bit? Now might be a good time to stop by. There's some great merch up front in the consignment room and if you look around you'll certainly find that a number of the vendors are having big sales!

Restoration of an Adrian Pearsall Sofa, Part Three…Or... Measure Twice, As You Would Have Others Do Unto…errr…A Cut In Hand Is Worth Two On The… ummm…Never Mind
Oh yeah, "Measure twice, cut once" is the proverb we're looking for, and if there is a rule #1 in upholstery, (No. Really. I don't know if there is a rule #1) this might be it. "Don't talk about upholstery rule #1" is probably a close second. We left off last time with new straps, burlap, foam, and dacron on our seat platform, and now it's time to start laying on fabric.

Who Don't Love A Couple-A-Cups Of Joe In The Morning With Their Kitties...'Specially When They're All So Stylish As These?! All Were Culled From The Thrifts This Last Weekend And All Are Getting Tagged Up. Status: Available.
Yeah, I'm telling ya...I found loads of booty this previous weekend! This time up, coffee cups and kitty cats. Danish Modern (IMHO) cats are somewhat hard to find, but even more rarely at the thrift stores...but coffee mugs that speak to the Modtomitrist? Nearly unheard of!

More smalls from the weekend. This cutting board set is in remarkable condition. Except for a few edge chips in the tile (I think they might have been there when new) the entire set looks unused. I find it astounding that the set is still complete.

I Rarely Pick From Antique Malls As Well, That's Where Already Picked Items End Up...But Sometimes - With A Little Luck - You Still Can Still Find A Real Bargain! This Walnut Danish Modern Tea / Bar Cart Was Found At The Creve Coeur Antique Mall Saturday Evening And Is Headed To The Green Shag Market! Status: Mall Flip!
Love it when I don't have to do any more work than tagging up a new offering. I'm gonna try to drop off this little collapsible tea or bar cart down at the Green Shag Market tomorrow morning before work.

Wow, A Couple Of Trips To The Thrifts Yeilded Some Great Finds This Weekend. Meanwhile, A Trip To The Creve Coeur Antique Mall To Pay My Rent Had Me Buying Like Crazy Too! Status: Loaded For Bear.
I'll admit it, I've got a weakness for decorator "How To" books. I'll probably never see a book that deals exclusively with Vintage Modern, but that's OK...I like how many of these books weave Vintage Modern pieces in with traditional and antique styles. Oh, yeah...and that magazine rack. Pretty cool, huh!

One Of The MANY Advantages Of Being On The Mr. Modtomic Blogging Team Is Having Your Available Wares Pimped Out To The MILLIONS (OK, Hundreds) Of Loyal Readers Here. It Helps That We're All In The Same Antique Mall; The Green Shag Market! Status: The Rounds.
Yup, rent's due. Had to get by both antique malls today to empty my pockets and check last month's take. Not too shabby, BTW (thank you everybody who picked up a lil something from the Mr.!). There were some changes already here in booth 5 and there'll be more to come soon!

I don't know if McDuff the Fluff is spoiled or if he's just co-dependent, but he Has to be right in the middle of whatever I'm doing. Even as I type this he's snuggled up in my lap with his head and arms hanging off the side of the chair. Weird cat.

Working A Slightly Later Shift Today Gave Mr. M An Opportunity To Clean Up And Deliver A Bunch Of Fantastic Dining Related Pieces. Of Course Now I'm Beat And Have To Work An Eight Hour Shift! Status: How I Roll.
The top on that Remington Rand library table is one solid inch of walnut. The legs, also solid walnut as well as the half inch thick sides. It IS heavy...and probably still has hundreds of years of service left to give. It's got lots of character and not that manufactured character you might find at a (much) more expensive online merchant (cough cough restorationhardware cough cough).

Don't fret, I know it's still heart breakingly cold out just about everywhere, but Spring will come...promise! When it does, are you ready? You got a place to rest your bum in the sun while hoisting those cool refreshing beverages? Maybe it's just time for replacements or upgrades.

After Loading Up A Craigs-find Sunday I Thought I'd Drop By The Goodwill On Cherokee Street...'Cept It Ain't A Goodwill, It's A Salvation Army. Not Open On Sunday, But Then I Found This Joint: Strange Overtones, Which Was A Bit Of Serendipitous Luck. Status: Gorgeous Goods..
I kind of accidentally found this place on Cherokee Street Sunday afternoon after failing to realize the thrift store I was hoping to pillage was, in fact...er, not open on Sundays. Lucky me though, 'cuz this place is freakin' great! Who needs a Restoration Hardware when you can get an eclectic mix of the Real Thing right down there on one of the most interesting boulevards in St. Louis.

A Quick Hunt Through The Local Goodwill Saturday Yielded A Nice Collection Of Machine Age Style Goodies. Some Are Authentic, Some Not, But They All Got That "Look". Status: The Smalls.
If you've never kept a shop or antique mall booth, let me tell ya...it's the smalls that can keep you afloat most of the time. These bits and pieces are what keeps the doors open...so to speak. Some booths offer nothing but smalls. Keeping the shelves full isn't always easy...but if you like the hunt like I like the hunt...well, that's half the fun!

While I DO have a garage, second bedroom....and uh, well...part of a living room full of stock for the booths (Creve Coeur Antique Mall AND The Green Shag Market), what I don't have squirreled away in here is a China Cabinet. Well, at least not one I'm willing to part ways with! So I had to suss one out today.
