So How Do You Think One Gets Cast On Market Warriors...'Cuz I Think I'd Clean Up On That Show! They Used To Have Guest "Warriors" On From Time To Time And I'd Love To Get A Chance To Prove My Flea Pickin' Chops. Status: More Wentzville Smalls.
The challenge with that Market Warriors is that the contestants are buying from a flea market and selling at an auction...both places where people are hoping to buy low to flip high! The mistake I see most is the contestants buying from high end focused sellers who really know their niche - to sell at auction TO high end focused sellers who really know their niche. No wonder they rarely hit paydirt.

Again With The Flea Market! Can't Help It...I've Been Watching A Lot Of Market Warriors, Flea Mkt Flip And Antiques Roadshow Lately. And It Was An Absolutely Magnificent Sunday Morning. Status: Wentzville Delivers!
We managed to get out to Wentzville Sunday morning before 10am but I would have liked to have been there quite a bit earlier. I just know that somebody got ALL the good stuff before I got there! Well, maybe not ALL the good stuff. I managed to fill a backpack with stuff.

Love You Some Broyhill Brasilia But Having a Hard Time Finding Yourself A China Cabinet? Mr. Modtomic Has Got You Covered. Drop By Fleur De Lis - Home Source And Check Out This Big Guy. Status: Available.
Strike while the Iron is hot...that's my motto. Just before ouf vacation I had the opportunity to pick up this lovely Broyhill Brasilia china cabinet, and even though I really didn't have the room for it and it's purchase would dip into our vacation money, I had to have it.

I Have No Children And Don't Plan On Ever Having Any Of The Crumbsnatchers...So What The Heck Is This Cosco Booster Seat Doing At The Modtomic Ranch? Status: It's Not...It's At The Green Shag Market!
I...Love...These. So much so that I wish that there was a larger version for adults! I'd so have one...or wish I could have one, or whatever. Since there isn't I've had to make do with (strangely) longing for one of these in it's original infant configuration. As of last weekend I will long no more.

You Might Have Noticed The Glass Chip Art In The Background Of A Photo From A Couple Days Ago. Uhm...That Was Just A Preview...Is What That Was...Is What It Was. Status: Featured For Real!
Just another little lot of smalls picked up here and there. The glass chip art was a local find but the atomic teacup and tiki salt and pepper shakers are from out of town. The art is getting tagged up but the rest is just for little ol' me.
Can Mr. Modtomic Ask A Favor Of His Readership? Craigslist Is Rife With Mattress Dealers Who Are Constantly Spamming The "Furniture By Owner" Section And I'm Wondering If And How Quickly We Can Maybe Flag One Of Them Off.
Click here to see all the ads this spammer is dropping in the Furniture By Owner section. Dealers like this have an entire section dedicated to them Because they were overloading the casual sellers and making craigslist useless. Please take a moment to Flag all this spammer's ads. It shouldn't take long and the more time this business gets flagged the easier it will be to flag the ads off. Flags are cumulative and never go away, but I bet if we make it difficult enough for this guy to keep ads up he'll go away!
Thanks so much in advance.

A Few Years Ago The Girlfriend And I Stopped At A North City Thrift Shop And I Scored A Cool Mod Rotary Phone Which Has Since Found A New Home Via The Green Shag. Yesterday I Stopped In Again And Scored A Fantastic Pair Of Kem Weber Lounge Chairs! Status: Mid Cleanup.
First thing I do in the morning after clearing Mr. Sandman's leavings is to do a quick check of craigslist on my phone. You morning people snake so much good stuff while Mr. Modtomic is still dreaming about finding $20 Knoll Barcelona chairs at a flea market.

While At The Green Shag Last Weekend I Found This Pair Of Metlox Teacups And Just Had To Have Them. It's Great To Have Yet Another Vendor Who Deals In Vintage Modern In The House! Status: The More The Merrier!
I spied this pair of Metlox Freeform teacups over a week ago in Hannah's booth when I was down at The Shag doing some booth maintenance. I was going to just grab them up right then, but it slipped my mind. Since I was there again this last weekend I went ahead and grabbed them then. Now I've managed to collect a couple of pieces of each of the the three related Metlox patterns!

The Girlfriend Decided That We Needed New Phones So We "Upgraded" Over The Weekend. I Decided That Today I'd Post This Lot Of Smalls Entirely From The New Gadget. Status: Wonky Pic Sizing!
Wide screen photo dimensions aside, the new Samsung phone is easier to post from than the "old" LG. I don't actually do many different things with my phone so I don't download any apps, but what I do do with it I do A LOT. Getting a new phone is, as a result, quite a stressful situation. This one seems to be working out so far with only a few hiccups here and there.

Another Little Motel We Stayed At For A Single Evening While In Florida. This One - The Pelican Post - Was In Brandenton Beach FLA And Was Perfectly Situated Between The Beach And The Bay. Status: Cute As A Button!
We stopped here just before sunset actually just looking for a place to eat and got suckered by the laid back attitude of the area and the drop dead gorgeous beach. Finding this little reasonably priced motel didn't hurt either!

This Weekend We Finally Got Back Out To The Local Thrifts And Oh Was It A Nice Welcome Home! We Made A Quick Pass Of Six Local Thrifts And Brought Home Plenty. Status: First Lot.
I don't know if perhaps the reason we didn't feel like we were finding much at the thrifts and fleas over vacation was because there just wasn't much to be had or because we just didn't know the hunting grounds. Either way, it's nice to be back on familiar turf!

Looking For One Of Those Sweet Gondola Style Daybed Sofas For Your Swank Joint? Check Out This Choice Unit At The Green Shag! Status: This And A Lot More New Stuff Available.
Dag, check out the sofa! Nice right? Wish it was mine to sell...'cuz I wouldn't! It's got new foam in the seat too so it's nice a firm. Note also that the attached side tables are reversible from wood grain Formica to white. These are kinda hard to find so if you think you might be in the market...better get down there and see if it's still available. Just Sayin'!

This Is What Happens When A Modtomitrist Starts Hanging Out In Antique Shops And Antique Malls And Buys Antique-y Stuff For His Mom's Part Of Their Shop! Status: Available!
Uhhh...that ain't Modern OR Atomic age. What the What? 'Tis true, Mom-tomic has been such a bad influence on me! It's all good though, 'cuz when the craigs-gods fail to deliver an abundance of vintage modern upon me I can still find a good flip now and then.

Sadly, Not All Roadside Motels Make It. This One In Florida Near The Suwannee River Must Have Been Abandoned Many Years Ago. Still, There Is A Certain Beauty To The Decay. Status: Long Gone.
Nature always wins. Try as we might, it's a losing battle. One only need to look at our driveway to see it's true. Weeds and grass grow wildly in the cracks between the concrete slabs...and we drive on it EVERY DAY! Once, the Girlfriend and I had a debate / disagreement while watching I Am Legend (Will Smith remake of Vincent Price movie Last Man On Earth) concerning how quickly grass would take over the streets and whatnot.

So The Sunday Flea In Wentzville Was Pretty Generous This Past Weekend. I Dropped Just Over $30 And Came Home Quite Satisfied With My Haul. No Super Scores Were To Be Had But We Didn't Get There Before Dawn Either! Status: Sets In Iron.
This lot, comprised of steel and iron, are just two of the five items I managed to sift out of the Sunday flea market in Wentzville. You've already seen the brass Nessen lamp and the brass bull statue. I've only got one more item that I haven't shared yet, but it's a bit of a project and who knows when I'll get around to That!

Mr. Modtomic Is Such A Sucker For And Just Cannot Resist A Good Motel Sign! Driving Back From The Florida Keys We Happened Upon This One For The Suwannee Gables Motel And Out Came The Camera. Status: Nice Location.
That poor woman (the Girlfriend, that is), she just never knows when Frank is going to come to a screetching halt because of a cool vintage sign that popped up out of nowhere! This time we were ostensibly headed home with only a few days left of vacation. Somehow, between Key Largo and Destin FLA we found ourselves crossing the Suwanee River...yeah, just like in the old timey song!

Like I Need Another Lamp...Another HUGE Lamp. But A Huge WITCO Lamp? Yeah, I'll Drag That Home With Me, Thank You! Status: Wanting A New Shade.
Last week I picked up a sofa that was advertised on craigslist. Turned out they were in the middle of an estate sale and this lamp was part of what was available. No way was I going to leave it behind, right?! I love Witco...I love retro lamps...anybody could see this was going to happen!

Sorry I Failed To Post Saturday. I've Just Had A Very Busy Weekend. Today We Took A Trip To The Wentzville Flea And Picked Up Some Vintage Brass. Status: Wiped Out!
Whew...this has been a long tough weekend! I made it a point to spend some real quality time at The Green Shag Market and give my booth there some much needed love and attention. Alas, we also had an invitation to have home made pulled pork and peach pie at a friend's with whom we haven't had much opportunity to spend time with.

I Plucked A Dozen Stakmore Danish Style Folding Chairs From The 'List That I Just Couldn't Pass Up...But I've Got Nowhere To Put 'Em! Status: Need Some?!
I found these neat danish style Stakmore folding dining chairs on craigslist during the week. They were so cheap that I couldn't pass them up and as such I'll be able to drop them in the booth at The Green Shag and put a bargain price tag on 'em.

The Last Of The Summer Vacation Roadtrip Booty. I KNOW! "That's It?" Yup, I Guess I Spent Too Much Time At The Beach! Status: Back To "Work".
Not that I tried real hard but the thrifts, antique malls and flea markets weren't very kind to a Mr. this vacation. It makes me appreciate how good we've got it here in the STL. Sure, I can take a tour of a good number of our local thrifts and come up empty handed from time to time, but I'll always find something good eventually!

If Ya Like Vintage Roadside Motel Signs You're Gonna Like This Post! I Didn't Stay At Any Of These Joints But I Couldn't Resist Stopping To Take Some Quick Photos To Share. Status: Enjoy!
I didn't spot too many of these grand neon signs down in the Florida Keys so I took a couple quick photos of a couple of those I did. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of development in the keys. It really turned out to be just like my Jimmy Buffet, Conch eatin', Coctail swilling, Sunset spyin', Fresh out the Ocean Seafood eatin' fantasy...you know?

This Paul Evans Cityscape Style Coffee Table Had Been On Craigslist Since Before We Left For Vacation. When We Got Back The Price Had Dropped A Couple Of Bucks And I Couldn't Take It No More...I Had To Have It! Status: A Bit Rough But Glam-Tastic.
I haven't been able to confirm that this glass top brutalist style coffee table is in fact a Paul Evans design since I can't find another like it on the web, but it's so very close in style and construction that I can't hardly believe it isn't! Either way, it is a seriously striking piece of functional art.

You Know, It Takes A Great Deal Of Patience To Be Mr. Midtomic's Girlfriend When On Vacation. Good Thing I Bought Her A Nook Reader For Christmas A While Back. Status: Stop-N-Go.
This is what happens when you go on a multi state road trip with your camera happy significant other who just so happens to publish a daily blog about all things retro. I just can't help myself. I have to stop and take a few minutes (15-20) to snap a few quick photos (set up a photo shoot).

Wow, It Got Warm Again Here In St. Louis. What A Day To Have To Pull An 8ft. Sofa From A Home And Load It Up In The Car. But A Flipper's Gotta Do What A Flipper's Gotta Do! Status: Available!
If you've ever tried, you know how difficult it is to find a sofa. OK, it's easy to find a sofa...but to find a sofa that fits our mid twentieth century modern aesthetic...Whew...better pack a lunch or bring a BIG bag of money! Today I picked up a lovely mid century classic that I'll be squeezing into the shop later this evening.

Something New. I Don't Normally Pimp Other's Material 'Round Here But Just In Case Ya Didn't Know...You Can Watch Full Episodes Of Flea Market Flip On Your PC...Or Laptop....Or Smartphone Or Whatever. Click Through For The Link! Status: More Ways To Waste Your Otherwise Precious Time.
While on vacation we get to watch a fair amount of cable TV. If you're like me and live with Broadcast TV and maybe supplement that with Netflix (we use a Roku box that pumps it right into our TV) then a couple weeks of cable is both welcome and...really, about all you need. But it got me wondering if some of those shows were available online.

Another Vacation...Another Lot Of Vintage Motels. Sorry If This Isn't Your Thing But I Feel These Lovely Little Mom And Pop Places Need A Light Shined On Them Now And Then! Status: Lost And Found.
The only bit of planning that I partook of before this year's roadtrip vacation was to find what had become a sort of legendary dining experience in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. It all started on our return journey from our first visit to Myrtle Beach SC.

I Didn't Bring MUCH Home With Me This Year From Our Road Trip Vacation...Just A Few Smalls That I Managed To Find Here And There. Status: Road Trip Thrifty Finds!
I didn't put much energy into filling the wagon with thrifted finds this vacation. It was time a break. I even put the blog on re-runs! But I'm back at it and I'll be sharing the couple of goodies I picked while exploring as well as some of the places we found along the way.

Yes, Indeed. The Florida Keys Lived Up To My Every Expectation. Sit Back, Relax And Let The Warm Gulf Breeze Wash Over You. But You Gotta Find A Place To Sleep Off That Hangover, Right? Status: Siesta Motel - Marathon Key FLA
While there are a few grand neon motel signs still up and in working condition in the Florida Keys and along the coasts in general, the massive storms they have to endure tend to thin their numbers and as a result you find many more like this. Still cute and the motel itself...Retro-tastic!

This Years Roadtrip Vacation Was Truly So. I Avoided (As Much As I Could Manage!) Scavenging For Booty And Posting From The Road. Alas, I Did Still Pick Up A Few Pieces Of Whatnot During The Last Two Weeks. Status: Glass Smalls.
Truth be told, I picked up these Ruby Chalices about a day BEFORE our vacation began. But I didn't get a chance to share them with you because of time constraints. They've been around for ages before I picked them up so waiting a few more weeks for their 15 minutes of fame here ain't gonna hurt nothin'!

We're Finally Home From Vacation And Boy Was It A Whirlwind Of A Road Trip. We Visited Places We've Been And Explored Places New. Along The Way We Stayed At Some Pretty Neat Joints. Status: The Palms Retro Motel - Atlantic Beach FLA.
This might have been our favorite crash pad the entire 14 nights we were gone. It's the Palms Retro Motel in Atlantic Beach, Florida. I (unlike the Girlfriend) am not one to plan out a vacation adventure very much. I like to discover great things rather than research and suss things out...that way, when you find a place like this, it's all the more special!
