I've Gone Through A Number Of Herman Miller / Eames Tables In The Past But This One Is A Little Different. I've Never Had One With A Full Wood Top Before. Never Even SEEN One! Status: At The Shop!
So with the soft opening of our new endeavor (Fleur De Lis - Home Source, 1105 North 2nd Street St. Charles MO 63301) just days away (!!!), I've been busy packing items new and old over to the the brick and mortar (literally, one of the walls is plaster over brick...found out the hard way). This Eames designed / Herman Miller produced table just came into my possession last evening and I've already taken it over.

One Of The Many Offerings I'll Be Serving Up At The New Shop (Fleur De Lis Home Source - Frenchtown) Is A Very Fine Broyhill Saga Desk...That Needs A Chair. Can A Lane Ladder Back Fit The Bill? Status: Scrubbed.
I haven't had a chance to recover the seat (Jezus...that seat...it was SO disgusting) but last night I pulled this out of the garage to give it some much needed love. Yikes, it was nasty. It had been stored in a basement for years and it was coated in every one of those years worth of detritus.

While At The Green Shag Market Saturday (Had To Restock, Sold Lots Over The Weekend!) I Picked Up Another Piece Of Brutalist Art. Matches The Brutalist Clock I Have Very Nicely. Status: Similar But Different.
I've been eyeballin' this big piece of vintage plastic art for months. It was in another booth at the Green Shag Market but put up so high on the wall that I wasn't even sure it was for sale. I couldn't see a tag on it and for real, couldn't be bothered to ask. But when we stopped by this last Saturday to drop off some new items in My booth I saw it was sitting on the floor, much more easily accessed.

Well, It Seemed Like It Was Time To Take Stock Of My Franciscan Starburst And See Where I Stand. Dragged The Whole Lot Out. Status: Wow!
After acquiring another dinner plate from the thrift store a few days ago I got to wondering how many dinner plates I actually had. Uhm...a lot. A Whole Lot. Time to take inventory.

While Picking Up The Giancarlo "Alki" Chairs Last Week I Asked The Seller If The Tables That Were In The Pics Were Maybe Available Too. They Weren't Right Then, But I Got A Call A Few Days Later. Status: Bonus!
I could just barely see this coffee table and little side table in the ad for the Giancarlo Piretti slipper chairs that I picked up last week. I knew I would have liked to check them out, if they were available, but it was so late when I stopped by to pick up the chairs that having an opportunity to peruse the tables as well was out of the question.

Season To Taste? Bring It On! My Friends Dansk And Quistgaard Gots My Back. But From Where Did This Emerge? Funny Story, That. Status: Freshly Cleaned And Oiled.
Lovely sculpted Teak don'cha think? Oh, and let's not forget to mention the amazing graining. But this heavy chunk o' wood ain't just art. It's fer usin'! Yep, whether it's grilling the hotdogs out back or boiling some Ramen noodles, you gotta have yourself proper seasoning tools. A Dansk salt and pepper grinder designed by Jens Quistgaard? That'll do!

I Never Even Heard Of Ben Seibel Before Reading About His Designs On Mid2Mod And SecondHand And Now I Got His Stuff Littering The Joint! What's One More Piece?! Status: Small Reward.
I jumped up before dawn Saturday morning in the hopes of scoring a decent set of United Furniture Corp. bedroom pieces. There was an estate sale in a storefront down in South City that was comprised of two condo sales. I was there only for a dresser and chest of drawers...and was there first in line, but alas...it was too pricey.

It Ain't Much...One Silly Little Plate...But What A Score! Having Quite A Sizable Collection Of Franciscan Starburst, Do I Need Another Dinner Plate? Status: Yup.
I was gonna feature this lil' beauty yesterday but those amazing Giancarlo (coolest designer name ever?) chairs showed up and I just couldn't wait. I found this Tuesday morning before heading in to work having popped into the two remaining Florissant thrifts to check the local traps.

It Don't Get No Fresher Than This! I Spotted This Pair Of Giancarlo Piretti "Alki" Chairs Just After Getting Home From Work And Looky Looky, Somehow They've Make Their Way Here! Status: Headed To Da Shop?
This loverly pair of Castelli "Alki" chairs designed by Giancarlo Piretti were offered up on craigslist this evening just after I left from work. I got home, kissed the Girlfriend, played with the cat and turned on the PC just in time to find these near the top of the list. There was a number so I texted the seller, hoping they might still be up and that the number connected to a cell phone. Bingo!

Didn't Do Much Shoppin' This Long Weekend (Except For An Estate Fail) But I Did Pick Up These Couple Items Last Weekend. Status: Half Score.
I love this little print that I picked up at a thrift in St. Charles last weekend but it's not really in too good a shape. I'll probably still put it up in my booth since it looks fine from a distance and I'll put a cheap price and an "as is" tag on it, just in case someone just has to have it.

New Great Stuff And Whatnot Down At The Shag This Weekend. C'mon Down And See For Yourself! Status: Lookin' Good!
Yep, I'm late posting again. T'was the Mr.'s birthday last evening and, while we didn't stay out too late, I did kinda tie one on...and I did get up at "stupid o'clock" in the morning to hit an estate sale. I was just too wiped out when we stumbled in to get this done last night.

I Forgot To Include This Lovely Melmac Covered Butter Dish Yesterday But I Was Plannin' On Featuring This Libbey Glass Set In A Caddy Today. Status: Mine And Hers.
Yup, of course the butter dish is hers. She's the plastics collector. I snatched up the Libbey sky blue glasses and fully plan to offer them up at The Green Shag. I dropped a set in there a while back without a caddy and they were gone in a flash.

Spaulding Melmac. Can't Get That One Wrong. It's Stamped In Full On The Bottom! I'm Glad Some Things Are Easy To ID, But If They All Were, This Wouldn't Be Much Fun Would It?! Status: All Hers!
The Girlfriend got in on the action at the Florissant Old Town Marketplace last weekend and snatched up this nine piece set of Melmac plastic. She's crazy for the stuff! Can't hardly resist a pretty little set like this when it makes itself available.

Up Until Recently Florissant MO Was Blessed With 3 Wonderful Thrifts But One Has Jumped Ship. No Problem, There's A Couple Of Antique Mall / Shops That I've Been Neglecting. Status: New Glass Vases And A Little Ashtray.
Our Value Village has gone by the wayside! What's more is that it was so rude about it. One weekend it was running along smoothly, the next...it was empty. Poof...just like that, Gone. Oh well, this gives me a good excuse to visit some of the shops in Old Florissant that I've nearly forgotten about!

Finding Amazing Vintage Modern Style At The Thrift Stores Like This Jens Quistgaard Dansk Cheese Board Never Ceases To Amaze Me! Status: Soon To Be Available.
I've read on other bloggers blogs that one should bathe these teak cutting boards in mineral oil...or maybe it's baby oil. Is there a difference? Does this sound right? I certainly don't think soaking it in teak oil would be a good idea, but it could use a little somethin' somethin'.

In Case You're Worried That I'm Spending All My Time And Energy Working On The New Shop Here's Some Current Pics Of My Booth At The Green Shag Market. Status: Stuff Out - Stuff In.
Over the weekend I got a text from Dan at The Green Shag Market that a number of items in my booth (#5) had moved on to a better place. A number of side tables and lamps and such were snatched up and I thought it might be a good idea to bring in some replacements. My other buddy Dan, who's been refinishing my Broyhill Brasilia tables, texted me that the leaves for the Drop Leaf Extension dining table were done so I thought, two birds...one stone. Time to make a trip.

Yesterday's United Furniture Bedroom Set Score Yielded More Than Dressers And A Bed, While There I Noticed A Large Piece Of Art Above The Fireplace And Decided To Bring That Home As Well. Status: Cleaned And Ready.
1971? Wow, that's 42 years old! It's been Fall for 42 years and counting. The sellers who sold me that beautiful United Furniture bedroom set yesterday also sold me this. I asked about it as soon as I spotted it and they said, "yes, as a matter of fact we were just putting it on craigslist!". I'll take that too, thanks! Then I had to clean off 42 years of dust.

Dropped Off Some More Good Stuff At The Pending Shop In St. Charles This Afternoon. Actually Picked Up The Items IN St. Charles As Well! Status: Nice How That Worked Out!
Last evening a nice vintage modern bedroom set popped up on c-list at a beyond reasonable price. I shot off an e-mail and offered the seller a few extra bucks to hold it for me until this afternoon. They were more than happy to do so and for the extra cash.

I stopped by the new digs today (new being a relative term!) to drop off a few bits and pieces and Wow, Mom and Sis have been busy! They got lots of stuff in here already! I took a few phone pics that I thought I would get around to uploading earlier today to share but work was funky today. So here's a little progress update.

When I Picked Up My First Couple Pieces Of Libbey Silver Foliage Last December I Had No Idea That I'd Become So Enamored Of It As I Have. Status: Even More!
I picked up a couple more pieces of the Libbey Silver Folia yesterday. Not a big score, just four glasses, but they are tumblers and I've been hoping to find some of them. I found some at an antique mall during one of my recent trips to Chicago but I just couldn't pull the trigger on those. Glad I waited!

What Do You Get When You Cross The Mild Geekery Of Star Trek Appreciation With The Mild Geekery Of Knowing Way Too Much About Vintage Modern Dinnerware? Status: OMG, I'm Such A Big Nerd.
So when I'm posting here on the ol' blog I've almost always got something playing on Netflix because we don't do cable and I'm up at stupid o'clock and there's nothing on broadcast TV. Not only is Netflix great because you can watch great televion (like Doc Martin, Top Gear and Sherlock...I guess I got a thing for the BBC) and movies (anybody else watch Sleepwalk With Me yet?) but you can back up and freeze frame when you see something (relatively speaking) cool. So what do the two pictures above have in common? Follow me through the break!

Today I Got Started On A Project That I Should Have Already Had Done A Long Time Ago. Danish Dining Chair Upholstering Underway. Status: Part One.
The Girlfriend's Mom asked a while back if I knew anyone who could recover these Scandinavian style teak dining chairs. Of course I do! My Mom! She does slip covers, light upholstery, lampshades and all sorts of sewing projects...just in case you need something done. This posting will be part one of two postings.

I Dropped By The Green Shag Today To Do Some Re-Arranging After A Few Items Sold Today. Found Some Neat New Items Available From Other Vendors. Status: Come And Get It!
Isn't this a most attractive lounge chair? I just about want it for myself! It's just so sleek and lovely. I didn't look underneath for a maker stamp. You find lots of danish style lounge chairs but very few with this level of style. If you think you might like to pick it up you better act quick. I doubt it'll be in the shop long!

Welcome To The Land That Vintage Modern Forgot! I've Had A Hard Time Sussing Out The Bargains Amongst The Myriad Of Appropriately Priced Choices Before But Raleigh / Durham Really Suffers From A Dearth Of The Former! Looking For Some Cheap Style Here? Good Luck! Status: Not My Turf!
I've been scavenging various craigslists for years now and like to think I'm pretty good at finding the needles in those massive haystacks, and I do like a challenge...but this is the first major metropolitan area craigslist that has made me feel somewhat defeated. I started looking a few days ago, found (barely) ten interesting ads but I'm not very satisfied with them. Look inside...see what you think.

Tuesday My Buddy Dan Put Me On To These Three Dining Chairs. Yesterday I Posted About A Set Of Chairs That Needed No Cleanup. These Are On The Other End Of That Spectrum. Status: Ew.
Yeah, these are a solid mess. They came out of a basement and probably haven't seen the light of day in decades. My buddy Dan told me a relative was moving out of an apartment and these had been in the basement since before they had moved in. They were going to the dumpster if I didn't get 'em.

Lipstick Red And Bright Shiny Chrome Steel. Does It Get Any More Retro American Modern Than That? I Really Wish I Had A Bright Shiny White Tulip Table To Pair These Virco Chairs Up With. Status: Already Gone!
It's nice to find something that needs no cleanup, fixing or modification in any way once in a while! These Virco dinette chairs are so nice in as found condition that I'll be able to offer them as of now. Like I said, I'd rather set them up with a really cool table that shows off their "space age-yness" but I just ain't got one at the moment.
