Let's "Toast" To The Weekend! Found Another T20B Sunbeam Automatic Toaster At The Thrift Store! Status: Mirror Finish Shiny.
I found yet another Sunbeam fully automatic toaster down at the Goodwill last weekend. It was (as usual) a mess. I gave it my usual quick going over with Goof Off and it shined up real nice. It's not perfect but unless you find one "New In Box", finding a perfect one is pretty hard.
Yup, this one works just fine. It could stand a little more cleaning on the inside as you can see in
the picture above, but then it is probably 40 years old! It's amazing that it looks this good and is
even usable. A testament to how well built these old timers are! The polished stainless is
amazing too. It's like a mirror.
If you are in the area and don't already have plans for Sat. evening, the Girlfriend, a few of our
other friends and myself will be going to the Skyview Drive In theater to see Marvel's The
Avengers and Disney's John Carter. If you wanna try and join us just bring some folding chairs
and look for Frank! We'd love to meet ya!
Man, what a Bueaty of a toaster. I love drive in movies. I'm 56 so when I was growing up we had 3 or 4 to choose from on any given night. That's quite the double bill!! John Carter is excellent and I hear The Avengers is excellent too. I will go see The Avengers Monday night in extreme 3d Cinemark theater. Joss Wheaton is one of my favorite directors. Enjoy the show.

Hi John. They both were the big over the top summer block buster type movies that I love to see at the Drive In. John Carter was great but suffered by comparison to The Avengers when shown back to back. And Boy...they were long movies! We didn't get out until 1:40am!
DeleteThe first shot is fantastic. I love the reflection that you framed in the shiny stainless of the toaster - the two cars vs the two smaller objects on the table - the curve of the table vs the graphic lines on the toaster - and even the rough texture of the brick vs the shiny metal of the toaster.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennie. Thanks! I try to get some artsyness into some of my shots. It's hard sometimes 'cuz I'm in a big ol' hurry. Thanks so much. The compliment is genuinely appreciated.
DeleteI think the Sunbeam T9 is a perfect design but would not turn down your find.
ReplyDeleteHi John. That T9 is such a pretty toaster. All the "T"s kinda rock. Some day I'll break open my '30s T1D and get up and running.
DeleteThe slots are configured differently...one is for hotdog buns? Or what?
ReplyDeleteHi Anony. I think what you are seeing is that the heating elements on the "outside" of the toaster slots is different from the "inside" of the slots. They do this (I think) because having all the same elements on the inside and the outside would result in the inside area having to high a heat and then the toast would not "toast" evenly! It's all very scientific I'm sure.
DeleteWe had one of these when I was a kid, so it brings back memories...
ReplyDeletethe slots are different as it automatically lowers the bread..if you only have one slice, you have to put it in that slot, if you put only one slice in the other slot nothing happens!! --cluelesscampers
Hi CCs. ...and then there is that too. Yeah, the zig zag wire you see is the "trigger" that makes the whole thing work. When you place a piece of bread in that it starts the lowering process and the heating elements. How it all works is voodoo to me.
DeleteI found one of these tossed in a box in the very back of a flea market, for $5, in March...Googled how to clean and adjust it (easy!) and now I'm passionately in love! I don't know how I lived, having to push down that toaster bar, all these years. Now, I just toss in my toast and Automatic Beyond Belief takes care of the rest, perfectly every time.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if this is for sale, please let me know. My daughter now wants one for her very own, but Ebay prices are ridiculous. Thanks!
DeleteHi Becky. This one and a few others will be available soon, but you'll have to make a road trip for it. Gonna have some big news about a sale soon! Might wanna plan for a weekend road trip to the StL!
DeleteI am always looking for a nice shiny chrome toaster like that, as one of Mod Betty's fave meals to cook is .... toast!
ReplyDeleteHOORAY for Drive In Movie Season too! Hope you had a swell night.
Hi Betty. I think I have a half dozen of these toasters around here now! The drive in was a blast. It opened a month ago but this was the first weekend that all the planets fell into alignment so that we could go.
DeleteI just stumbled across your blog from the vintagegoodness blog. I'm a St. Louis garage saling, estate saling, thrifting, antique malling fool as well. I write about some of my finds on my garagesalin blog.
ReplyDeleteThe T20B is my daily toaster and I love it and it's automatic bread descent. I too will never go back to the plunger. My wife is not as crazy about it because of it's narrow slots not accomadating bagels. I've had a number of vintage toasters over the years. I never pass one up at a cheap price.
Love the toaster! I'm 58 and it was our toaster when I was very small. It lasted for many, many years. So pretty. Enjoy.
