Last Weekend, While Out Takin Care Of All Sorts Of Running Around, We Managed To Scavenge A Couple Of Thrifts. All I Managed To Find Was A Nice Selection Of Paul McCobb Dinner Ware, But It Certainly Brightened Up My Day! Status: Collected.

DSC_0456

I'm not usually smitten with shiny, slick porcelain dinner ware like this but really, who can resist them some Contempri / Jackson China by Paul McCobb? "Not I" said the fly! This isn't your standard frilly antique porcelain dinner ware, no Sir. These designs are of the conservative restraint and functionality we have come to expect of all Paul McCobb's designs.

Brutalism And Fancy Fishes! Who Needs Curtis Jere Or Flights Of Birds? The Style Smacks Of William Freidel But The Piece Doesn't Appear To Be Signed. Status: Available.

DSC_0448

When I went out to pick up the pair of Pearsall style chairs I featured last time here on Mr. Modtomic I was lucky enough to find this exceptional vintage modern wall sculpture available as well.  Of course I had to grab it up and now it's available out at Creve Coeur too.

The VERY Day We Were To Have Our Annual Nightmare Before I Had To Take A Couple Hours And Pick Up This Pair Of Adrian Pearsall Style Lounge Chairs. Status: GONE.

DSC_0442

Yes, this fabulous pair of living room chairs are currently available in my booth at The Antique Mall of Creve Coeur.  It took great effort to get them there too, since I should have been cleaning the house in preparation for our yearly Halloween / Christmas party.

Apparently There Was A Pair Of Overman Highback Swivel Armchairs Available At The St. Vincent Thrift, But The Other Had Already Been Snatched Up. I Was A Little Disappointed Until I Found Out This One Was Half Off! Status: Needs Some Feet / GONE.

DSC_0415

This Overman lounge chair was just a lucky find.  I had already picked up a large dining table and five dining chairs and did not anticipate having to find more room in the back of Frank for this!  Did I mention that the furniture was half off this particular day?

Last Evening The Girlfriend And I Presented Our Annual Nightmare Before Christmas Party And My Good Friend Illuminate (Who We Haven't Seen In A While) Came To Hang With Us. Then Today She Texted Me Some Ridiculous Pics From A Local Goodwill. Status: Had To Share!

Tag

Yes, you are reading that tag right.  ONE THOUSAND AND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS.  Would you pay $1,500 for ANYTHING from a goodwill?  And that is for just ONE piece of a three piece set!  ::Sigh::  This is what happens when someone gets a little bit of a lot of information.

We've Been To Chicago Many A Time, Yet This Thanksgiving Was Our First Visit To The Lincoln Antique Mall. Contained Within You'll Find All The Good Stuff I'm Sure You'll Love. Status: Awaiting Your Visit.

DSC_0306

I've been meaning to get by here and check out this place for ages.  This past Thanksgiving the Girlfriend and I finally...well, remembered.  Good thing.  Love the place!

Yesssss... I FINALLY Found An Appropriate Top For The Florence Knoll Table / Desk Base That Has Been MOCKING Me For Months! The Top? A Maybe Two Hundred Pound Slab Of Beautiful Polished Granite. Beautiful, No?! Status: Available.

20141207_142808

Damn, looking at this combo again now, hours later, I'm kinda wondering if maybe I should be keeping this!  I've already got a Florence Knoll dining table and I think this would fit nicely in the kitchen as my computer desk.  Hmmm.

I Know It Seems A Strange Thing To Complain About, But Am I Cursed To Find Odd Number Sets?! Then Again, Do You Think I Thought About Leaving Even ONE Of These Early Bertoia Side Chairs Behind? Status: Restore / Flip?

DSC_0409

What a crumby day to shoot blog pics.  At least it wasn't actually raining...or even cold for that matter. But beautiful Sun light?  Forget about it.  Thankfully I was only shooting these Five white Bertoia side chairs, so the lack of brilliant color wasn't so much an issue. Five?  Yup, the curse lives on.

Out And About Today To Pick Up Some Craigslist Goodies, I Stopped By A Couple Of Thrifts And Found This Cool Retro TV Lamp And A Weird Bit Of PC Electronica. Status: Strange Blog-fellows / lamp = GONE.

DSC_0385

This vintage TV lamp really isn't Modern or Atomic...but it is Retro, and we do Retro around these here parts.  The mysterious black box...well, it'd be a mystery then wouldn't it?

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Yes Indeed, It HAS Been Too Long. How About Another Vintage Modern Shop Tour? While In Chicago Over Thanksgiving We Paid A Visit To An Orange Moon, An Amazing Independent Shop Filled With All Manner Of Beautiful Treasure. Status: Awaiting Your Visit.

An Orange Moon

Yeah, you may have noticed a slight change of posting schedule lately. Mr. M just hasn't had the wear with all and or time to keep up with daily posting lately. Rest assured, I'm not abandoning you, my loyal readership...but we're both gonna have to adjust our expectations. Daily blogging is tough! In the mean time...let's take a look through another beautiful shop. This time in the Windy City, Chicago.

Last Night We Decided To Try The Dinner Menu At Rooster On Grand. Since We Were Mere Footsteps From Rocket Century, A Visit With Proprietor Kristina Seemed Like A Good Idea. Shot A Little Video While Hanging Out. Status: Perused.

Rocket Century

Never had a chance to hang out at Rocket Century and groan and sigh over all the pretty things you'd totally want to haul home?  Well, here's an opportunity to see what you've been missing.  I'm still on the upward stroke of the video learning curve, but I think this is my best one yet.

Friday, November 21, 2014

Yea!!! Look At All That Melted Snow...Wait. Well, You Know What I Mean. It's Gone. In Its Place: Five More Erik Buck Teak Dining Chairs. That Makes An Even Dozen. Status: Finally.

DSC_0220

I've had Seven of these Erik Buck dining chairs floating around here for ages now.  You know I can't stand having uneven sets, right?  So those Seven have been pushed both to the back of the garage as well as my brain.  Not so anymore.

Sorry About Being So MIA Lately. No (Good) Excusses, Just Lazy And Adjusting To The SUDDEN Cold The Midwest Has Been Slathered In. Here's A Couple Smalls I've Picked Up Lately What Be Headed To The Shag. Status: Available.

DSC_0210

Sorry, I know...  No no, I haven't been avoiding you!  No really, it's not you...it's me.  I've been kinda lame.  Once it got cold I just stopped.  Pretty much stopped everything but going to work and keeping the booths stocked.

After Moving More Items From My Booth At The Shag I Figured It Might Be Time To Get The Holiday Items Down There. It Took Forever To Get That BIG Tree Up! Status: Jingle All The Way!

DSC_0198

Just 38 days left until Christmas!  You got your shopping done?  If not, well...keep in mind that small businesses REALLY appreciate your patronage...and are about the only place you're probably gonna find a 7 foot tall aluminum "Sparkler" Christmas tree!

The Name Ward Bennett Rang A Bell, The Craftsmanship Caught My Eye And The Price Sold Me On This Leather And Ash Lamp Table. Status: Farm Fresh.

20141114_124702

I haven't found many tables like this on the web to compare this to but I have seen a couple on 1stDibs. That doesn't necessarily indicate a "home run", but it's a good sign none the less. And, this one isn't so much perfect...but for Eight bucks? C'mon!

Thursday, November 13, 2014

If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em...At Least Until You Can Beat 'Em! Yes, I Have Joined The Throngs Of Knockoff Eames Lounge Chair Owners Out There. But Rest Assured, It's Just A Place Keeper! Status: Temporary.

20141113_125038

At a Third of the full online price, picking up this "Angus" Eames Lounger & Ottoman from a craigslist seller was a no brainer. It's basically brand new...with a few minor issues.

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Sunday Night, Upon Arriving Home After Dropping By CCAM To Pays My Rent, This Sprung Up On Craigslist...And Right Back Out The Door I Went. A Genuine Jens Risom / Knoll Chair? Yes, Thank You! Status: Soon To Be Avialable.

DSC_0182

Well, this ain't an every day occurrence!  Genuine Knoll, well known designer pieces for bargain prices (even on craigslist) are always a welcome if infrequent find.  Luckily I spotted this one about an hour after it was listed.  A half hour later it was in the back of the car.

Monday, November 10, 2014

Phwew...This Fall Has Kept Mr. Modtomic Busy Haulin' New Stock To Both Antique Malls. I Never Truely Expect That I'll Do So Well...So It Feels Pretty Darn Good When I Do! Status: Video Walk Through.

20140119_160050

Update!!! I've Uploaded A New Version That Isn't "Sketchy" Like Before. Much Easier On The Eyes!!!

Yup, I know that not everybody appreciates a Video Blog Post, but I just gotta do one once in a while.  Turn your sound down if you're at work and enjoy the show!

That Booth Of Mine, Down There At The Green Shag Market, Keeps Changing And Changing! The Big Brown Sofa Moved And The Space Was Sparse, So A Little Delivery Was In Order. Status: Restocked!

DSC_0140

So I never did get an opportunity to shoot and feature the gorgeous long brown sofa that I had in here, but thankfully Nick (of Midcentury Midwest) shot a few photos while it was in there...if you'd like to take a peek!  But it went by by quite quickly, so I had to bring in more stuff!

Thursday, November 6, 2014

Of Course, While I Was Down South Slacking...I Still Had To Rake Through Craigslist Every So Often. The Last Day There I Turned Up This Pair! Status: Knockoffs...But Still Attractive.

20141105_133252

Even though these are SO not Knoll / Bertoia they will still do the job and look good doing it...and lighten a pocket book considerably less doing so. These popped up on craigslist during the last few hours I was in New Orleans. I had e-mails out on a number of items all weekend but this was all that panned out.

Tuesday, November 4, 2014

As Promised Yesterday, Here's A Little Walk Through Tour Of Loisel Vintage Modern - New Orleans. Here In The Big Easy, This Is The Joint Where You'll Find What You're Looking For! Status: Well Stocked.

DSC_0072

If you've been reading Mr. Modtomic for about Four years you may remember this place as Neophobia.  While the name and ownership have changed, the good stuff inside is still the good stuff!

Monday, November 3, 2014

I Just Got Home From New Orleans And I Got Some Great Shots Of One Of My Favorite Shops There, But Then I Found This AMAZING Music Video Of The Broadway Antique Market (BAM) In Chicago And I Just HAD To Share! Status: Only 51 Days 'Til Christmas!

DSCN1997

You've no doubt seen this photo heading up a post before...but that was over TWO years ago!  Click through to enjoy a Pro shot video (hey, I'll get there some day) and see some of the fantastic item you might find there as well as a wonderfully sung song (that I think we can all can relate to) by Jordan Phelps.

Posting Live From NOLA! The Entire Modtomic Clan Dropped By A Nursery And I Spotted Some Pretty Cool Patio Furniture There. Come On In And Check It Out! Status: Big And Easy.

20141101_133615

Momtomic and the Sis wanted to stop by American Aquatic Gardens and Gifts today and I just happened to be along for the ride.  I didn't think I'd find anything we'd really be all that interested in but BAM, found some cool patio furniture...plus the place is just beautiful.

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

OK, I'm Off To New Orleans For A Nice Long Weekend Of Eating Fine Food, Drinking Fine Wine And Laughing A Bit Too Loudly With Fine Friends. I Leave You Today With This Harlequin Pattern Swag Lamp. Status: More Lighting - Soon To Be Available.

DSC_0055

This too was rescued from certain doom when I picked it up from the house clean out that I participated in a few weeks ago.  Many of the other items I culled from that sale have already found new homes...some ridiculously quick!  I've still got to clean up the chain on this, but I think that when it hits the floor (so to speak), it'll go fast as well!

Monday, October 27, 2014

Ugh, Another Project. This Was (Just Barely!) Found In The Basement Of The House Cleanout Where I Acquired The Baughman Armchairs Et Al. Sadly, No Cushions Were To Be Found...Hence "Project". Status: Waiting.

DSC_0025

A couple years ago I picked up a pair of Danish style daybeds like this off the Columbia Mo. craigslist.  The eventually found their way to another local (sometime) blogger who has since move way far away off to to Phoenix Az.  Man, those daybed sofas really got around!

What A Gorgeous Weekend! Yesterday We Spent The Day Driving From Craigslist Buy To Craigslist Buy...Plus A Little Thirfting Thrown In For Good Measure. Status: Double Score.

DSC_0019

What I picked up was the splendid new (yes, NIB for $225 w/ Zoom Lens Kit!) Nikon 1 J3 camera that I shot this fantastic Sonneman Orbiter floor lamp with.  The camera took us to Edwardsville Il. and then we had to tool all the way down to Festus Mo. to pick up the Sonneman score.  Lots of driving.

Not Much Happening Around Casa Modtomic...So I'll Just Have To Bore You With Another Look Around Another City's Craigslist. This Time Fayetteville Arkansas. Status: Not My Turf!

Downtown on Dickson

I noticed yesterday that fantastic designer Emily Henderson had posted her version of a Masdison craigslist scavenger too!  In the comments Laura asked if Emily might sift through Fayetteville Arkansas' craigslist and since I didn't have anything else to blog about...Oh, and there don't seem to be any "Greetings From" postcards out there on Flickr.

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Sometimes The Thrifts Provide The Necessities You Don't Even Know You Need. Well, Maybe Not NECESSITIES, But Certainly Useful And At A Fraction Of What These Cost New! Status: Utility Wares.

20141021_125126

I picked up the fold flat dolly early this last spring, so it's been around a while.  The  modular aluminum camera case is a recent find...that I'm not really sure why I need it, but it was like $12.  Couldn't leave it behind!

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Yeah, Christmas Is Still Ages Away...But When You Find Retro Seasonal Stuff, You Don't Look The Gift Horse In The Mouth. Status: Fa La La La La, In The Booth Real Soon.

20141020_233703

It's no secret, Mr. Modtomic LOVES the Christmas Season.  I love the decorations, the commercials, the snow, and most of all...the music!  I don't normally make much of an effort to offer Christmas decor in my booths because it's so dang hard to find any that aren't just...antique-y.

Monday, October 20, 2014

Just In The Nick Of Time, A Woodard Patio Set Moved Leaving A Gaping Hole In My Booth At The Green Shag Market. Just In The Next Nick Of Time I Found A Beautiful Kofod Larsen Chair To Fill It! Status: Available.

20141019_164858

Then the Kofod Larsen lounge chair score turned into a lounge chair, Thonet side table and cool brass pharmacy reading lamp score!  The craigslist chair seller had all kinds of extra stuff for sale and well, since I was there.  ::shrug::

Sunday, October 19, 2014

It's Been A Little While Since I've Done A "Not My Turf" Post. Here's One From Madison Wisconsin And There's Lots Of Good Stuff To Be Had. Status: Check It Out!

Greetings from Madison, Wisconsin - Large Letter Postcard

Yes, Greeting indeed!  Why does it seem that the more northerly cities have more cool vintage modern?  Not that there's no good stuff in the south...why, Mr. Modtomic just dropped about 10 ads on the New Orleans craigslist!  Yup, shameless self promotion.  Anybody between StL. and NOLA need me to bring them anything around Halloween?!

Saturday, October 18, 2014

You May Recall That I Featured The Square Sibling To This Long Narrow Walnut Coffee Table A Few Days Ago. I Didn't Have Time To Clean This One Up, But As you Can See...It's Not Too Shabby As It Sits! Status: Gone.

20141017_125338

This and the matching square table are both headed to The Antique Mall of Creve Coeur Saturday.  I've still got to go over this one with the Howard's magic wand, but it looks pretty darn good to begin with.  There's mostly just some bumps and scrapes on the lower legs.  Vacuum cleaners.

Thursday, October 16, 2014

I Know That These Boomboxes Aren't Exactly The Norm Around Here...But Realize That The '80s Were 30 Years Ago...And Everything Comes Back Around In 30 Years! Status: Collected.

20141015_130204

I won't pass up a cool boombox, but I do have my preferences for certain options...if you will.  I don't buy boomboxes with CD players.  Those are too new.  I do prefer the older school boomboxes that have the cassette and controls on the face...but this one is still pretty cool...and doesn't have a CD player.

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Sure, It Was A Three Day Weekend...But Does It Count If It Rains Every Day? Bringing Home A Pair Of Arthur Umanoff Iron And Leather Wine Racks Today Helped To Soothe The Pain. Status: A Mess.

20141013_182016

In case you also spotted this pair of Umanoff wine racks on craigslist this afternoon and thought about (or made a play for) them, you might have passed on them anyway.  They are quite the mess.  Probably haven't been dusted (much less actually cleaned) in years.

Monday, October 13, 2014

Sorry I've Been Absent As Of Late. My Phone / Camera Has Been Given Me Da Blues. I Shoulda Shot This Quartite Table Lamp During The Day But The Best Laid Plans...And All That. Status: All Original And Available.

20141012_185451

It's a lovely lamp.  And it works as designed.  Flip the switch...lumens emerge, unlike that little retro light I featured a couple days ago.  It still needs to be fixed before I can let it go.  This big beauty?  It's ready to go!

Thursday, October 9, 2014

I Stopped By The Green Shag Market Today To Pays The Rent And Drop Off Those Swag Lights (On A Day They're Actually Open!) And Since I Was There... Status: Other Vendors Stuff!

20141008_170038

I had plans this afternoon so I didn't have time to drag out the coffee table I wanted to shoot.  I really really wanted to get those swag lamps down to The Shag today and I had to drive way out to West County to do a pick up.  That and traffic.

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Ever Watch Mystery Science Theater 3000? This Really Cool Retro Swag Light Somehow Reminds Me Of The Opening Of That Show. Status: Available.

20141007_152528

This is yet more lighting (albeit Mood lighting) from the clean out I did a few weeks ago. I brought home a total of four lights and still have two more to show ya. Doesn't that look like you're under water or sumpthin'?

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Wow, What A Change...Now It's Smalls That Are Slow To Be Found! And Camera Tripods. I'm Trying To Find Another Cheap But Quality Tripod But Came Home With The Yellow Cat Lamp. Status: Available.

20141006_163744

Cool lamp, huh.  And is that another small Jere sunburst with geese?  Yup.  But that's about it for small vintage goodness.  Of course, I haven't been looking real hard lately either.  But now I need another camera tripod so I'll be looking a bit more.

Sunday, October 5, 2014

Not Everything Mr. M Finds Is A Polished Gem. Sometimes These Items Are A Diamond In The Rough. This Pearsall Style Slat Coffee Table Is A Perfect Example. Excellent Bones, Needing A Little Love. Status: Project.

20141004_155016

From this angle the coffee table looks pretty darn good.  Amazing what you can achieve with photography.  Alas, this fella wants for some refinish work.  Just gotta decide which path to take.

Thursday, October 2, 2014

What's On The Table For Today? Another Table. This Is Just Another Part Of The Lot That I Picked Up Over The (Long Arduous) Weekend. Between Storms Today I Was Able To Clean It Up And Get Some Shots. Status: Available.

20141002_151932

I might not have normally picked up a table like this at an estate sale or thrift unless it was dirt cheap but I just couldn't bear the thought that it might have ended up in a dumpster. This literally was (with a few exceptions) an everything goes sale!

I Find The Happy Coincidences Necessary To Put This Fantastically Mod Swag Light In It's Next Home Just Crazy! Of Course The Final Move Will Be The Easiest, At Least From My Perspective! Status: Available.

  20141001_125941

This super mod swag lamp came from the same home as the last four chairs I've featured here. I tol' ya! I cleaned the joint out! Today I got to thinking about the long journey it took for me to get there. Want the condensed version? Yeah, I don't have THAT much time either!

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

No Videos Today. Vids Take Lots Of Time And A Mr. Just Didn't Have That Luxury Today. What He Does Have Is Too Many Living Room Tables! Status: Available.

20140930_120434

I've actually got a matching long / narrow coffee table that matches this square cocktail / corner table, but I didn't have time to clean and shoot both this morning. Maybe I'll have time to shoot a video of both tomorrow, we'll see.

Friday, September 26, 2014

Wednesday Yielded A Plethora Mid Century And Danish Modern Goodies. This Pair Of Danish Style Lounge Chairs Were Part Of That Haul. I Shot A Video Instead Of The Usual 8 To 12 Photo Format. Enjoy! Status: Already Gone.

20140925_123635

Well, OK...I did shoot ONE photo for the blog. Now that I think of it, I should have shot more, you know...for the craigslist ad. Ugh...now I'll have to drag 'em back outside and set up again. It's hard out here for a pimp.

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Sorry I've Been Absent The Last Couple Days. Been Busy 'Round Here, But I've Got A Great Pair Of Armchairs To Share With You Today. Just The First Part Of A Nice Midweek Haul. Status: Already Gone.

20140924_115425

A (REALLY) good friend of ours hooked me up with a friend of their's who was paring down their household in preparation for moving to a smaller apartment. Our friend thought I might be interested in some of the items available. Boy were they right!

Monday, September 22, 2014

Ah, Finally. I'm Able To Shoot And Edit Decent Video...And I Didn't Spend A Dime. I - Am - So - Cheap! Just Downloaded Microsoft Movie Maker. It Edits The MP4 Files My Phone Uses To Store HD Video. So Let's Look At Booth 307 Again...This Time In REAL Video. Status: Better.

20140906_162326

C'mon, yeah it's kind of a re-run, but it's a much improved re-run!  Of course, I've still got lots to learn and more improvements will come, but at least you'll be able to see some detail now.  So come on in and check out Booth 307...again!

Saturday, September 20, 2014

You Just Never Know When The List Is Gonna Pony Up The Good Stuff. This Is The Third Designer Score This Week, And I've Always Wanted A Warren Platner / Knoll Easy Chair And Ottoman. Status: Crossed Off The Bucket List / Already Gone.

20140920_185102

Who doesn't love a classic mid century modern design like the Warren Platner Easy Chair and Ottoman?  Years ago I spotted a set of Lounge Chairs on the Kansas City craigslist but I was just a little too late to get those.  This acquisition soothes that fail quite a bit!

Friday, September 19, 2014

This Rather Pedestrian Looking Pair Of Square Tables Found Their Way To The Back Of Frank Wednesday Night After Work. Why You Ask? Two Names: Eames & Miller! Status: Available.

20140919_125710

If not for the ridiculously low asking and the odd shape (I've never seen square tops before) I might have passed on this pair.  Plus, the seller had other interested parties.  But, I got a call back from him and we made arrangements.  Couldn't back out after that.

Did A Little Craigslist Shopping Last Night And Brought Home Lots Of Dining Options. This Paul McCobb - Irwin Collection By Calvin Dining Set Had Sat On C-list For Nearly A Week Before I Noticed It! Luckily, I Was The Buyer Who Was The First To Suss It Out. Status: Gone.

20140918_115138

I recall taking a passing look at this dining set on craigslist Wednesday evening and not thinking much about it but then it passed my eyes again a little later and I noticed the brass bracing under the chairs and table.  I'd seen that before.  Paul McCobb.  Five minutes of research later and I was firing off an email!
