Really Cool Roadtrip Road Scores...From The Road! We're Not Yet Home But I Just Couldn't Wait So I Pulled Over, Pulled Out The Goods And Pulled Out The Camera. Status: Russel Wright Loverliness.
No Modtomic roadtrip is complete without lots of hunting / gathering at local junque-tique shops along the way. This super score of Russel Wright Interplay by Iroquois was found in Queensbury NY at a little place called 200 Glen Antiques. As soon as we pulled into the gravel lot with - yup - four of those circular plastic and iron Solair hoop chairs outside, I knew this place would deliver.
I was lucky that there was a little sticker with a hand written "Russel Wright" next to the price
sticker on these. I knew there was some other kind of Iroquois china that was designed by Russel
Wright but I wouldn't have guessed this to be it as it sat on the shelf. I of course should have after
having read Dana's posting on the designer debate some time ago, but I don't got one of those
steel trap minds you hear so much about.
It's not really a "set" since there aren't ANY dining pieces, but it's got all the serving pieces you
could ever hope for and all in one glorious score. This wasn't overpriced by any means but it was
priced high enough to give me pause. I had already bundled a number of other items for purchase
and at the last minute - almost on a lark - I asked the shop keep to give me his best price on the
set and he dropped the price by 40%, no haggle! Done...Sold!
I am inclined to keep this and start building ANOTHER Russel Wright set but I may end up
selling this. I don't know that I'll have the patience to find more of these pieces and I bet there
are lots of folks out there who already have a nice dining set completed but are looking for the
serving pieces to give their collection something special.
Finding a deal on ANY piece of the Iroquois Interplay line is a tough row to hoe, and finding
pieces in this line that are undecorated seems to be tougher still. Finding a lot of serving pieces
like this in great condition might just be unheard of! Dunno. I can only find a pair of coup bowls
on eBay that match these. They'd snuggle right up with just about any of the Ben Seibel Iroquois
pieces, so maybe I'll look into procuring some of those dining plates and whatnot. Anybody out
there have any of this line? Care to share some pics of your set?
Wow...what a find! You really hit the jackpot this time. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteHi Dana. Thanks, I really didn't think I was going to be able to haggle (I hate to do it...make me feel cheap) the price down to a level I felt comfortable with but the seller went right down to it! Cha-ching. Sold!
DeleteVery nice find indeed!
ReplyDeleteHi OMM. They were pretty dusty. I'm guessing that they must have been sitting there for quite a while.
DeleteSomeone at Green Shag has patterned plates available they coordinate with these. They were at the back of the store in a box on the floor the weekend before the parking lot sale.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy. I went in and found those. You are correct! Wow...I wouldn't have known that those go with this either if you hadn't said something! You's smart!
DeleteI love this score! And you unwittingly document that there are 2 sizes of tureen! (If you ever want to sell that charcoal one, let me know!)
ReplyDeleteHi midmodman. The whole set is available in my booth (44) at the Green Shag Market. If I don't find a buyer in the near future I'll pull them out and maybe buy the plates at the other booth that Wendy above mentioned, starting a proper collection.
