Oooo! Check It Out! It's A Mystery Box...Spotted In The Garage...Wonder What's Inside. Status: It's A Mystery, Duh.

Weeeee....let's take a look, shall we? Surely there's something cool here.

Ha! Look at all this! This is the Jamaica Bay pattern by Taylor Smith Taylor. I have

a HUGE set of this pattern. I must have bought this just as we were moving into

this house, stuck the box in the garage and promptly forgot all about it. I really

need to consolidate all these dishes. What I REALLY need to do is go through the

D*mn Garage and do some sort of inventory! No?

Don't these just have to coolest pattern? It's all Atomicy and Tiki..y at the same

time! The Cathay pattern is very similar except with more green and with a green

accent color, like the inside of the creamer and sugar bowl, etc. So apparently I

managed to forget I had found quite a nice little haul of these dishes! 11 dinner

plates, 2 salad plates, 2 "boats" (anybody got any idea what these are for?), 7 tea

cups, a sugar bowl w/lid, a creamer and a gravy boat...not too shabby! But

wait...What else is in the box?

What the heck is in the bag? Looks like flatware. Oooo, it's vintage '50s baby blue

flatware! Wow, I remember buying this now. It was at a little antique mall near Six

Flags (over Mid America) and I almost didn't buy it. I hemmed and hawwed about it

and finally the Girlfriend said "just buy it", so I did as instructed. Only this morning

did I realize...

...most of it is still New In Package! I got all of this flatware for a measly $15!

Bargain. Again, I have a bunch more of this exact flatware over at the Bungalow.

The color so matches the Jamaica Bay. Oh, and one more little thing was in the

box. A measuring glass by Southern Comfort! NOW I can mix a Proper Cocktail!

  2. Wow - don't you just love those mystery boxes?! I come across those all too frequently. I wonder if the boats are like relish plates - olives, pickles. They are fun!

  5. I have an orphan soup bowl from that TST collection; I did not know the maker or pattern name, just that it looked cool. This is one of the reasons I read your blog.

  6. Moob - Hey, Cool...I'm glad I could help! I love to find out the names and manufacturers of the retro, atomicy dinnerware. When I walk into a place that has lots of it, I think it makes me sound smart to ask for a pattern by name! I'm a great big show off.
