Absolute Epic. Is There Any More Apt Description For This Cypress Slab Coffee Table Top? Siamese Cypress? How Rare A Coffee Table Must THIS Be?! Status: Soon To Be Available.

I grabbed this and a few other Cypress tables almost as a lark on Sunday.  I've loved the biomorphic look of Cypress "steaks" like this since I was a young boy in the late '70s.  My father had a friend who made clocks out of smaller versions of these.  This piece would make one hellofa clock!

My first inclination is to remove the stump supports and attach a set of hairpin legs...but maybe I

shouldn't.  Perhaps this should be kept as is.  Check out all that color and figuring!  I'm not really a

fan of that thick clear Polyurethane but that seems to just be the way almost all of these are.  There

are some scuffs and scratches in the poly and there are some places where wet paper has stuck to it

too.  This should all be able to be polished out.

These aren't the legs I'd be attaching, at least not in This condition!  I've got another set that are

already cleaned up that would look lovely on this slab.   I've also got two more tables AND another

baseless top along with this large Siamesed coffee table.  I'll probably attach some longer hairpin

legs to one of the other tops to offer as an associated end table with this when I get them down to

The Shag.  What do you think?  Stumps or Hairpins?

  1. I'd go with the hairpins if I had it in my house, but maybe in the booth you can leave the stumps and attach a picture with the slab sitting on hairpins and say that you'll be happy to attach hairpins if the buyer prefers them. That would keep you from having to put additional holes in it yet.

    1. Hi Dana.

You are so dang smart! The stumps should be easy to temporarily remove and I'll just snap and print a few pics with the hairpins tentatively attached. Or maybe vice versa.

  2. Umm . . . I'm drooling over here. That must have been a hefty-slash-crazy shaped tree!

    1. Hi CT.

No Doubt! I've seen plenty coffee tables made from cypress slabs but never a double like this.

PS - CT's latest post (on the beautiful Eames LCW) is up. Check it out!

  3. If the stumps are original -- I'd for sure keep them. I always feel like these heavy table tops put onto hairpin legs look unstable.

    1. Hi Pam.

Looks like I'll be offering the table with both as per Dana's suggestion!
