I'd Been Eye-Ballin' This Quistgaard Cheese And Cracker Board For Ages At The Green Shag. Half Off Sale? SOLD!!! Bonus: Dropped Off A BRNO Chair And Some Smalls There Yesterday Too. Status: Win / Win.
I stopped by the shop in St. Charles and The Green Shag Market yesterday to drop one of the Mies Van Der Rohe BRNO chairs in each and while at The Shag I of course had to snoop around. There had been a Dansk cheese board there for ever that I had been pining over since it came in. The vendor had JUST put up a Half Off sign and I pounced!

Mmmm...Don't You Just Need A Crackling Romantic Fire Now That Summer Is Here? What? No? Then How About A Retro Cone Fireplace With Electric Logs? Yeah, I Got Ya Covered. Status: At The Shop!

::Update!:: Back With Some More "Design Within OUR Reach". This Time I Found Some Mies Van Der Rohe "BRNO" Chairs In Sleek Stainless Steel And Lushious Chocolate Brown Leather. Status: Liquidation Special.
So right away, let me get this out of the way...sadly, they are not Knoll. They are "Made In China" repros. I know, I was disappointed too. Still, they are super nice reproductions, being made of real leather and polished stainless steel. My hopes were high but did I really think my luck was that good? Uh uh. ::Check inside for a lil more info I just came across::

Made In America...South America That Is. I Was Told By The Former Owner Of This Huge Fantastic Fiber Wall Art That It Was Created By A Local Artist In Brazil. Status: Did I Mention Huge?
I can't make that signature out...Dinah? I don't know. The bigger question is How Do You Feel About Fiber Art. This can be a real contentious and polarizing issue so I'm hoping to see some lively debate in the comments...or maybe it's time has arrived and everybody's come to accept it's resurgence...like skinny jeans and pop up headlights...oh wait...that second one ain't happened yet.

This Weekend Was More About Shifting Merch Than Epic Acquisitions, But I Did Find A Couple Little Goodies. Status: Thrifty Goodness.
Wow, what a weekend. I took a couple extra days of (Thursday and Friday) to make it a nice little five day mini-vacation. Of course I'm gonna scour the thrifts the whole time and as per usual, very little turned up. Seems like when I have the time to really make the rounds there's just not much to be had.

Z'at Look Dangerous To Anyone Else? Makes Me Wonder If Anyone Has Ever Had To Have A Kromex Serving Dish Removed From Their Body At The Emergency Room. Full Body Shivers Aside, I Removed This One And A Nice Lot Of Taylor Smith Taylor Jamaica Bay From The Goodwill. Status: No Stitches Necessary!
Every good super mod host / hostess should have a couple of pieces of Kromex in their arsenal of serving pieces. In my humble opinion, this is probably the coolest style out there. And as far as "attainable" dinnerware goes, I don't think you can get much cooler that Jamaica Bay. It's just the right mix of Atomic and Tiki. Never seen it? Click through to see the newest lot to be added to my collection!

Yup, More IKEA But It's Still A Pretty Cool Candelabra And It Totally Fits In With The Rest Of My Wares. Plus, Bonus, I Found A Near Perfect Globe Lighting Fixture At The ReStore Too! Status: Old Vs. New (ish).
I've taken Thursday and Friday off this week and while Thursday was kinda cool and drizzly all day Friday is looking up. I did manage to shift the Yellow Majestic fireplace and after delivering it downtown (to the City Museum Lofts...SUPER Cool place!) I was already out...so it made sense to check the traps while out, right? This (and a cool hanging globe light fixture) is the takings.

A (Mystery) Danish Slipper Chair, Brass Top "Spider" Table And A Cool Candelabra. Not A Bad Haul For A Late Flea Market Arrival! Status: Sweet Flea Finds.
Yeah, that upholstery is pretty hideous but the chair is solid and has great lines. You've already seen the Spider Leg Table, and the candelabra...that's pretty darn cool too. All this was found and hauled back to Frank within an hour from the various vendors. Not too shabby, eh?

Gawsh...Another Freestanding Fireplace? You Betcha! This One's A Genuine Malm And - BONUS! - Looks Like A Robot! Status: Daytrip Booty / Already Gone.
This fantastic Malm "Diamond Fire" fireplace came from the Springfield Il craigslist. I was surprised that it didn't get scooped up before I was able to get up there and buy it myself. I was hoping to pick a set of stacking bentwood and chrome steel dining chairs while up there but it just didn't work out. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Craigslist Wasn't My Only Shopping Venue This Weekend. We Also Made The Trek To The Wentzville Flea Market Where I Got A Good Deal On This Fabulous Brass Top Spider Table. Status: Available.
I love these tables. I don't think that they were intended to elicit the response they get from the Eames era / mid-century crowd but it's those lovely sculptural legs that get us. This particular piece has much darker legs and a smaller top than the others that I've had, but it's in excellent shape...and it's available!

All Week Long I Had Been Spotting Stuff On Craigslist That I Couldn't, For Various Reasons, Get To Until Saturday. Stuff Like This Majestic Cone Shaped Gas Fireplace. So Yup, I Was A Busy Boy Saturday! Status: Stocked, Satisfied / Already Gone.
This Majestic cone gas fireplace was spotted in the background of an ad for some shelves. I sent an e-mail to the seller on the off chance that they might want to be rid of the fireplace too. Turns out they were emptying a property for to put on the market and eventually they did want to be rid of it.

8 Days Ago I Had Never Heard Of Ron Rezek...Now I Have Two Versions And Three Desk Lamps By Him. Strange How This Kind Of Thing Happens. When It Rains It Pours...And I'm Always Out There With A Bucket! Status: Hunted / Gathered.
While I was trying to find some intel on the mod desk lamps last week after spotting them on craigslist, I kept seeing this design as well. Turns out that it too is a Ron Rezek designed desk lamp. Not exactly my style but if you look around the web for a minute you'll see that they don't exactly come cheap.

Picked Up A Bag Or Two Of Smalls A Few Days Ago That Just Run The Gammut Of Vintage. Retro? Check. Danish? Check. Antique(y)? Check. Status: Gotta Get 'Em Tagged.
Since this pair of steel framed Chinese scene plaques were in sorta rough condition I almost passed on them, but then I took a second look. That's not "rough", that's Character! Yeah, I mean for the most part they are actually in great shape. It's the frames that have taken the real beating anyway. Plus, I picked up some other goodies while out checking the traps.

How Long Has It Been Since I Featured My Little Outlet At The Green Shag Market? Too Long? Not Long Enough? Beats Me! At Any Rate, I Dragged Some More Goodies Down To The City Over The Weekend. Status: Flourishing.
There's a couple of new big items in the booth lately. Can you pick them out? I dropped off three of the Eames shell chairs I brought back from Texas, obviously the Majestic fireplace is front and center, just behind that is the swivel, tilt Eames shell armchair and then behind that is the brass "Z" floor lamp.

What Pops Up On Craigslist Never Ceases To Amaze Me. Sunday Afternoon Afforded The Mr. An Opportunity To Acquire A Fine Pair Of Ron Rezek Desk Lamp...And This Mister Is Not One To Look A Gift Horse In The Pie Hole. Status: Snatched.
Truth is, I hadn't even heard of Ron Rezek until yesterday. I spotted this pair of perforated diffuser desk lamps on the "list" and decided to do a little lookin' 'round on the web. I only turned up one other pair and they were listed on 1stDibs. A good sign, but not definitive as far as I'm concerned. Still, they weren't pricey and they looked cool.

I'm Hoping To Have This Magnificent Majestic Cone Fireplace Available At The Green Shag Market By The Time You Read This Saturday. Status: Available...But For How Long?!
I used to photograph a lot of the items I posted on craigslist in front of our orange Majestic cone fireplace. I'd get about 3 or 4 inquiries asking if the fireplace was available for each ad. We still have that old Majestic in our living room because some thing are just keepers...no matter what. Well, now I have an opportunity to make someone very happy.

I Found Waldo. Well, A Painting BY Waldo...Z. Waldo That Is. Just Some More Delightful And Anonymous Late '60s Art. Status: Almost A Keeper.
I popped in to the Salvation Army the other morning before heading into work and this lovely lanscape painting (acrylic on canvas) was waiting for me to take it home. I love rescuing stuff like this from the last place before the landfill. Hopefully, I'll be able to foster it into a loving new home.

While I Was Picking Up The Brasilia Table From Dan Over The Weekend I Was Given A Chance To Cherry Pick His Upcoming Garage Sale And Snag One Of The First Case Study Style Planters. Status: Super Mod Smalls!
Dan and a friend of his are making these Case Study style planters and I'm gonna get some in both the family shop, Fleur De Lis - Home Source and in my booth space at The Green Shag Market. This is the first of three that I've got coming my way. While I was there I snatched up this neato kinetic mobile sculpture.

Brasilia Before And After. You Might Remember This Broyhill Brasilia Drop Leaf Harvest Table From Last October. It's Has Finally Emerged From It's Cocoon And Boy Is It Pretty! Status: Available.
After a long winter the Brasilia harvest table is back out in the open. It's been a long wait but it was totally worth it. It needed lots of love and luckily I know just the man for the job. He loves the work and loves Brasilia so it was only natural that he takes care of all my Broyhill "troubles".

This Sensational Dining Suite By Drexel Was What Had Me Running Around All Morning Saturday. It's The Subtle And Sublime Declaration Line...And Lots Of It! Status: Available.
The name "Declaration" conjures up what, Colonial style furnishings? This ain't that. But to be fair, there are many pieces of the Drexel Declaration line that would perhaps fit that image you've conjured up. I'm not sure how the two fit together and share the same name but I'm not a marketing genius either. I'll leave that mystery to the pros.

It's Not Vintage But It's Certainly Modern. I Snatched Up This Great Herman Miller Aeron Chair Off C-list Last Evening After Work For A Song. It's Not Perfect But Certainly Serviceable. Status: Ohhh...The Comfort!
If you've never had the pleasure of sitting in one you are probably scratching your head right about now wondering why I'm showing off my plastic office chair. The thing is, this is a future classic. I can't really even remember where I first heard of the Herman Miller Aeron chair but a friend of ours had one years ago and when he moved we got to "baby set" his...we still have it. It's sweet. Last night I found another.

Taking A Day Off Tuesday Payed Off Big! I Picked Up This Great Vintage Mod Swag Lamp Along With The Tulip Table Featured Yesterday And A Few Other Choice Goodies That You'll See Later. Status: Available.
I had to clean up a chair and shoot some pics of that this morning before work for a potential new owner so I didn't have a real good chance to clean this little gem up. Please disregard the spots you see on the globe and how dull the wood looks. It's gonna get a proper scrubbing and the wood, a danish oil bath...then it's off to the shop.

Who Doesn't Love A Beautiful Tulip Table? I Picked Up This One, In Coffee Table Form, Just This Afternoon. I'm Still Not Sure Whether Or Not It's A Knoll / Saarinen. Status: Unidentified Bequiling Object!
Regardless of it's maker and or designer this table was such a brilliant score. I spotted this a few days ago and had shot off an e-mail right away...then heard nothing. For days. And days. Then today, a day so nice out that I just happened to take off work, the seller called me out of the blue! Talk about perfect timing!
