Sorry For The Lateness. Got Back From Chicago Roadtrip Kinda Late Last Night. Brought Home Some Cool Stuff Though, Like This Pod....Thingy. Status: Epic Super Score? Who Knew!

DSCN2055

Remember the pair of Broyhill Brasilia night stands I picked up at an estate sale a few weeks ago? They sold to a couple in Chicago and I drove up to deliver them. Jumped in the car (the Girlfriends new Ford Fiesta...40mpg!) at around 7:30am and hit the road. Didn't get back until after midnight. Lots of driving.

I Dropped By An Estate Sale This Afternoon Before Work Hoping To Pick Up What I Thought Would Be A Cheap Dining Table And Chairs. Sometimes A Little Bit Of Knowledge Can Be A Lot Of Trouble. Status: Estate Fail.

DSCN1961

All I ended up buying was this.  Two little pieces.  I held a tiny bit of hope that a dining table shown in the online pics, one of the few interesting items at this sale, might still be available even though I made no effort to get there early.  Well, it was still available...and probably still is.

Looking For Some Cheap Style? Shelly Requested A Perusal Of The San Fransisco Bay Area Craigslist And Let Me Tell Ya, It Was Tougher Than The Cleanup After The 1906 Earthquake! Status: Not My Turf.

San Francisco Earthquake of 1906: Market Street, west of Powell and Fifth Streets, showing area east of Taylor and Powell Streets. This is the main part of the retail district of San Francisco, ca. 1906.

It's that time again. Time to see what can be found in another city at a bargain price on craigslist. This time it's the San Fransisco area. The Girlfriend and I have been out here twice in the last couple years and I know there's good stuff to be had. I managed to bring home an Overman pod chair and a Dorothy Schindele desk the summer we drove there and back, although they weren't craigslist finds.

It Took FIVE E-mails. It Took SEVEN Days. Craigslist Sellers Might Occasionally Drive A Mister A Little Nuts But Sometimes It's Totally Worth It. Status: McDuff The Fluff Says "Word, Happy 800th Post...Yo!".

aDSCN1959

The "King" was digging the newest "keeper" this morning while I was shooting pics. Of course it took like five minutes for him to finish sniffing it all up and down before he settled down enough to snap a decent photo of him! Inspection done, McDuff gave the new "Egg Chair" the thumbs up. Did I say "Egg Chair"? Oh yes, my friends. Look inside!

I Was Just Lucky Enough Yesterday To Pick Up This Lovely Bassett (95% Possitive) Cross Leg Coffee Table. Haven't Had A Chance To Clean It Up But It's Gonna Be Smashing! Status: Late Night Pickup.

DSCN1937

This was Certainly a hot item on craigslist last night. While I was giving the table the once over the seller was giving the unfortunate news to another would be buyer by phone...at like 11pm! The seller was kind enough to see me after work and they were located all the way over in Lebanon Il., nearly 30 miles from downtown St. Louis.

The Goings On Down At Booth 44 - Green Shag Market. Sometimes It Seems Like It's A Revolving Door! Status: Open 5 Days A Week!

DSCN1899

Not like yesterday "last weekend" but the weekend before you'll remember that I picked up a bunch of smalls at the Cornbread "Worlds Largest" Garage Sale. A couple of those items got dropped off at my booth at the Green Shag Market right away. The Avocado Green porcelain coated cast iron fry pan and a Large orange lava glaze planter sold so fast that I wasn't sure if I even brought them to the booth! I never even got a chance to photograph the planter!

There Were A Couple Nice Estate Sales This Weekend...But A Mr. Didn't Feel Like Getting Up Early. On A Whim I Stopped At One On The Way Home From Checking In On My Booth Space At The Green Shag Market Around Noon. Status: Leftovers!

DSCN1916

There were lots of great treasures at this estate sale that we stopped at late Saturday.  Most were spoken for.  Most were worth staking out the sale for, but I just didn't have it in me this weekend.  You know, there are enough great finds in other venues that skipping a sale now and then ain't that big a deal.  But just wait...there's gonna be a dry spell come up and I'll be whinin' like a baby 'bout it!  Anyway, this beautiful blonde was somehow left behind by the early birds.  I'll take her home, thanks.

Two Steps Forward - One Step Backward...Or Is It The Other Way 'Round. Dunno, Can't Remember...And I'm Not Sure Which Would Properly Apply Here Anyway! Status: Knowledge If Not Progress.

DSCN1888

I tried desperately to make some headway on my Artmetal aluminum desk chair today. I pulled out the vinyl that I am using, found some batting, my can of contact adhesive and the scissors. Still, I got pretty much nowhere. At least you (and I) can see what the vinyl color and pattern will look like on the chair, if only on the seat.

Flea Markets And Antique Malls Have Been Good To A Mister But You May Remember How The Thrifts Have Been Leaving Me Wanting. Not So Last Sunday! Status: We're Back Baby!

DSCN1882

It's not such a huge haul but it's good stuff.  We stopped at the Value Village on a whim after a glorious meal at the Shaved Duck in South City and "what the What?" I found something good to bring home!  Finally.  It's really been far too long.  So two small lots?  I'll take that, thanks.

Man...Yesterday's Poke Around Nashville's Craigslist Was Pretty Cool, But Check Out The Booty Culled From The Treasure Aisle Antique Mall Last Saturday. Status: Haul.

DSCN1870

Earlier this week I took you on a little tour of Treasure Aisle antique mall.  I picked up a nice big box of goodies to bring home, some of which you might have already seen it the aforementioned post.  Funny thing is, I know we bought a little pair of black lamps but they weren't in the box and I can't find them anywhere!  I'll have to consult the Girlfriend about this.

Looking For Some Cheap Style? Knowledge Is Power In Nashville Tennessee Where We Will Be Trolling For Treasure This Morning. Status: Not My Turf!

Greetings from Nashville, Tennessee - Large Letter Postcard

Nash-Vegas Baby, Nash-Vegas!  Home of the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame, lots of amazing independent singers / songwriters and even a full scale replica of the Parthenon!  That's all well and good (especially the singer / songwriters) but you all know why your reading this and it ain't for no guided tour, at least not of the city.  But maybe Nashville's craigslist...now that might be interesting.  Let's have a look.

Sunday Found Us In Collinsville Illinois At The Fairmount Park Horse Track. No, We Wasn't Bettin' On The Ponies. It Was the WIL 92.3 Cornbread "Worlds Largest Garage Sale". Status: Large Yes, But Maybe Not A Garage Sale.

DSCN1856

There really is no rest for the wicked.  With great effort the Girlfriend and I rose at the ridiculous hour of 6:30am (hey, I'm NOT a morning person...and the weekends are the only time She doesn't have to rise at 5am!) and made a little drive to the East Side!  It was worth the pain.  We had a good time working our way through the sizable flea market style sale held at the Fairmount Park Horse Racing Track.

So Looks Like There's Some Modtomic "Haters" Lurking 'Round Here Waiting For A Reason To Pipe Up. It's All Good! All Opinions Are Welcome...And Here, Perhaps, Is Some More Fodder. Status: Lighting Fail

DSCN1850

This obviously amazing danish style light fixture popped up on craigslist over the weekend, late Friday night I believe, and I immediately shot off and e-mail about it.  Not having been listed as anything special (no keywords like "Mid Century, Danish, Eames Era") I figured I'd have a pretty good shot at picking it up Saturday morning and I was right!  I got a call from the seller early Saturday morning, got the address and tooled right over to pick it up!  Sweet!

We Decided To Spread Some Love ("$$$") Over At The Treasure Aisle Antique Mall On Saturday. Dropped Some Bank But Left Plenty Behind For You! Status: Nicely Appointed.

DSCN1812

Ohhmmmmmm...need to get your Inner Peace on, in a big way? You might need this!  What on earth did this giant hand come from?  It's pretty cool in a seriously frat house / art school student sort of way.  I've unfortunately outgrown such silliness, but I wouldn't ever look down my nose at it!

It's The Weekend Baby! Miller Time? In Booth 14 At The Green Shag Market It's ALWAYS Miller Time! Well, At Least Until Somebody Grabs Up This Fab Lighted Clock! Status: Booth 14 - Lookin' Good!

DSCN1837

I stopped by the Green Shag Market this evening to assess my MY space (Booth 44) but took a little minute to make a pass through the rest of the antique mall too.  Booth 14 caught my eye as the shop keep really seems to be stepping up their game.  They're definitely bringing the pain these days!

Just A Quick (And Mostly Undeserved) Rant, Piss And Moan, Bitch Session. What The F*ck Is Up With Kirkwood Craigslist "Sellers"? Status: Miffed.

image0

Out of the last Four Kirkwood Mo. craigslist posters I've replied to only two have gotten back to me...and one took 4 DAYS to do so! How "F"ing RUDE are Kirkwood residence? See the chairs in the picture above? I e-mailed the seller yesterday an Hour and Fourteen Minutes after the they placed the ad. I offered them a full 25% more than they were asking. Never heard back.

My Latest Attempt At Getting A Project Started And It Was Going So Well...Then I Just Don't Know What Happened. Status: Half (?) Way There.

DSCN1796

I picked this up at the Value Village for just a couple of bucks hoping to be able to toss some new covers on it and put it with the Broyhill Saga desk I have avaiable at the Green Shag Market in my booth.  I even got the whole project well under way and then...well, life just does to us doesn't it?  I can't really tell you what exactly got in the way but I know a couple nights of re-arranging the living room and dining room didn't help!

Looking For Some Cheap Style? Of Course You Are! Let's Check Out Grand Rapids Michigan This Time, As Per Reader "MissShapes" Request. Status: Not My Turf!

Surreal sculpture "Possess" by Jason Graham slouching toward Grand Rapids, MI #ArtPrize #iPhoneography

I was going to go down the list of nominations in the order recieved since there weren't any "seconds" to the nominations for episodes of "Not My Turf"...but I got intrigued Grand Rapids Mi. and got sidetracked. I'll try to get around to everybody's nominated city but it might take a while! Thanks for all the suggestions! Now let's see what we can find in northern most major metropolitan city in Michigan.

Florence Knoll Table Installed. Hey, Looks Pretty Good With The Brasilia! Who Knew?! Status: Tuckered Out.

Florence Knoll table and Broyhill Brasilia Chairs - China Cabinet - Buffet 01

I FINALLY got my new (to me!) table installed in the dining room this evening. It wasn't as easy as just pulling out the original Broyhill Brasilia dining table and bringing in this lovely behemoth, oh no. Nothing is ever THAT easy. I actually started getting things ready last night!  But it was worth it.  Look how much King Larry / McDuff loves it already!

Just Got A Couple Of Pieces Of Glassware To Show Ya Today. Some Random Thrift Booty That Found It's Way Here. Status: Wishing I Had More!

DSCN1774

A pair of glasses would be about the fewest number I'd pick up unless I already had a collection started of something. Trios are hard for me to buy just because of my own personal OCD issues with such numbers. Four is fine and five is OK because it leaves me with an extra in case of a broken piece. But a pair...that's scary. Gotta be extra careful with a pair!

Nominate YOUR Nearby Major Metropolitan Craigslist Page For A Future "Not My Turf" Scavenger Hunt! Status: Up To You!

I get a kick out of scrounging through craigslist to find great vintage modern buys that might get overlooked and I think you guys like to check it out too. Here's your chance to point me in the right direction. Sound off inside!

Sunday Afternoon Estate Sale Score! Out Of Nowhere, A Fine Pair Of Hard To Find Broyhill Brasilia Night Stands. Status: Available!

DSCN1761

Finding a matched PAIR of Brasilia night stands this AFTERNOON at a SECOND DAY / HALF OFF estate sale was, well...to say it was an unexpected surprise would be a ridiculous understatement!  I didn't even PLAN on going to any estate sales this weekend, but when I woke up and it was so nice out I just felt like puttering around a few nearby.  Did it pay off?  Oh yeah!

I've Been Meaning To Get Down To The Central West End And Take Some Pics At Rothschilds Antiques For Quite Some Time. I Finally Made Time Today! Status: Eclectic Selection.

DSCN1718

I've only been to Rothschilds Antiques a few times but I've been visiting the shop in the Central West End for years, even before I discovered my lean towards vintage modern.  So I've always known they have an abundance of beautiful old items and that in the mix would be some vintage modern.  So I figured if I stopped by randomly this afternoon I'd find something my lovely readership would find interesting.

Looking For Some Cheap Style? Let's Look Around Denver For Some Undiscovered Treasure, Diamonds In The Rough And Otherwise Under Valued Goodness. Status: Not My Turf

Wait, what's wrong with this picture? OK, so somebody took some liberties with their refinish of this Broyhill Brasilia dining set...but if you're not a purist, it's not so bad. I actually kinda like it! You'd definitely have a one of a kind set! Look inside for the link.

Tuesday Evening Was A Good Evening To Be Mr. Modtomic. Frank Got Stuffed With Both A Florence Knoll Dining Table AND A Broyhill Saga Knee Hole Desk! Status: Craigs-scores!

DSCN1708

After I picked up the two ton table Tuesday night after work, I still had to pick up this Broyhill Saga desk that I had already made an appointment to pick up!  That was the bad news (bad news? hey, it was still quite warm out...even at 11pm!), the good news?  It was...

Almost A FULL Week Of Hitting The Thrifts - And This Is The Take. Curse Of The Smalls? Status: Sad...Just Sad.

DSCN1698

I took almost an entire week off around Labor Day and managed to hit almost all of the local thrifts at least once during that time.  It was weird.  I've never had such a losing streak!  As a matter of fact, I didn't even get the iron at a thrift.  I found it, and ONLY it, at the Wentzville Flea!

Can You Guess What It Is? Let Me Just Say This About That: I Almost Peed Myself When I Saw It On Craigslist. Status: It's A Keeper.

image0

Yes, the top has some finish issues.  It's vintage...it comes with the territory!  This was the only photo of the table in the ad.  The text?  Oh, that helped a lot: "Oval table / 5 foot oval table with metal pedastal base".  The price?  At least that was something of a clue: $400.  Mr. Modtomic paid every bit of that...and loved it.  LOVED IT!!!  Know why?  Know what it is?  Look inside for another clue!

Lenoir Chair Company = Broyhill? Who Knew? Picked These Up For A Song. One For A Desk And Three Spares! Status: Farm Fresh / Need Cleanup.

DSCN1683

So here's a little info. that all of us who have, buy, sell and or collect vintage modern Broyhill items might need to know.  Lenoir Chair Co. basically IS Broyhill.  These chairs were listed (and top posted a number of times!) as Lenoir chairs.  The pics weren't that great but they looked like Broyhill Sculptra / Brasilia chairs.  The price was right so I decided to investigate.

Finally! Something Cool To Show Off! Erik Buck / O. D. Mobler Dining Chairs And Teak Draw Leaf Table. Status: WAS @ The Green Shag - But Now It's Gone.

DSCN1671

I picked this up this morning, took a nap, cleaned it up, rubbed it down, loaded it up and installed it in my Booth (44) at the Green Shag Market...which, by the way, is open TODAY - Labor Day!  The Green Shag ain't usually open on Mondays but there's another shop - Quintessential Antiques - close by that is only open the first week of the month and The Green Shag is open too, to add to the bounty.  Head down, check 'em out.

No New Goodies Today. Nope...Just Gratuitous Cute Kitty Shots. Status: New Stuff Tomorrow, Promise!

xDSCN1269

The thrifts...they ain't been good to a Mr. I've had Four straight days of strike outs. I Mean NOTHING! Man that stings. But, I've managed to corral a few good things off craigslist today and I'm fixing up a neat chair so I'll get you the 411 on those tomorrow. Until then, cute pics of King Larry / McDuff.

ANOTHER Day Of Zero Scores. Pfffff... Whateve', Let's Look Around At Some Other People's Stuff At The Green Shag, Shall We? Status: Some Good Stuff Up In Here!

DSCN1619

I stopped by another antique mall today and was sorely disappointed by the lack of vintage modern available. The visit made me keenly aware of what a great resource a place like the Green Shag Market is for the Mid West shopper looking for the good stuff.
